Check out the newest sports bar in heritage quay (footsteps from your docking site on NCL) called the BEE HIVE, its right under the clock tower in the middle of the quay, you can't miss it. Or try the King's Casino right next to the bee hive or Cheers sports bar right infront of the bee hive. everything in one neat package.

When I get to the excursions, I'll be baaaack!

Antigua Guy,

Having a hard time deciding what to do on our day in March. Spending the day at an all-inclusive resort, boat trip with snorkeling around the island or a tour with Lawrence (if he's even available). I really enjoy relaxing on the beach and maybe doing a little kayaking, but hate to miss anything too. Any suggestion, or am I on my own?

I was glad to see your post! I'm taking my 3 kids ages 13, 10 amd 6 on a cruise and we're trying to figure out what to do in Antigua. I did the stingrays in Grand Cayman in April w/o them, so I'd like to try that, but I also want to see the island. My 10 yo is very into forts and history, so I want to try to include those too. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

My family will be on the island for a few hours this Sept. I've looked into the Pineapple Resort, but I would like to see more of the island. Would you suggest renting a car or should we just hire a tour guide for the day? We would like to see the sights that make Antigua unique, then spend some time at a beautiful calm beach, maybe a little tourist shopping (T-shirts, etc.) Any advice?

 Thanks for all the questions you have been answering, they are quite helpful.

My family (wife & 3 kids -12, 15,17) will be in Antigua for a day in March 2007. What I would like to know is: 1. What is the best beach to go to for a few hours? We are not in to crowds and the whole tourist thing. Just a place to relax with good swimming and/or snorkeling.

2. If we were looking for a place to grab a lunch, where would be a good place to go? We would once again be looking for something less touristy, that offers a local flavour. Maybe a place locals like to go to.

Thanks for your help!

We'll be in St. John on a Saturday (Dec 16, '06), and I hear the Public Market is a good place to go, and is within walking distance. Also, I read somewhere that English Harbour and Nelson's are within walking distance of the ship dock. About how much walking is invloved in visiting these? Are there buses or shuttles or jitneys or some such that dart around town, or is it necessary to hail a taxi if the walking is too far for a old phart?

Okay:

Concerning the best snorkeling beach: Answer: Long Bay

This i a really remote beach where you can snorkel directly from the beach front. There is a great hotel & restuarant there where you can eat, drink & rent snorkel gear.

Turners beach: is a vey scenic beach on the south coast. Turners beach bar & grill has great food and you can rent beach chairs & showers with some water sports. It can get a bit crowded on cruise ship days because more people are getting to know the area. The sand is very soft, white & beautiful. the sea is warm and clear. You can see the volcanic island of monsterrat quite clearly from there.

its about an half hour drive from st johns & should run you about $15 bucks round trip.

i believe someone said something about walking from the ship dock to Nelson's Dockyard. You can only do that if your ship docks at Falmouth Harbour on the south. most cruise ships cannot dock there because of the shallow waters & lack of facilities. Its more for smaller ships, private yachts & the such. Most likely you will dock in St John's Harbour which is about 35-40 min drive to Nelson's Dockyard.

Hope I was helpful!!!:D

Thanks for the great information.

We have been to Antigua and have ridden the local buses to Spring Hill Stables.

I know that the buses run to English Harbor, but does it also get to Nelson's Dockyard?

We are thinking that we would like to hike, but were wondering how closely the bus gets to Nelson's Dockyard.

Thanks,

:)

Or try the King's Casino

Hopefully thats not the little casino on the main street where they run that scam game!!! We were there a couple of years ago and got suckered in a little casino - barely escaped with our wallet intact. Everybody be forewarned of this little storefront casino handing out a "free roll ticket". What seems too good to be true is an absolute scam.

Any comments Antigua-Guy???

Hi there!

I was wondering what the resort was next to Turners beach? We went to Turner's 2 years ago and the pictures from Pinnapple Resort look very similar to the resort next to Turners, I was wondering if it was.

Thanks :D

1. King's Casino is the most popular casino on the island and is definitely legit. Its been arround for decades. they recently hosted an after party for Reggae Artists Shaggy & Beenie Man there. I think you mean another shady casino on Nevis Street. I don't even know their name and they do no look trustworthy. You can tell by how the place is set up. hidden away little shacks compared to a large air conditioned & carpeted casino should be easy to spot.

2. There are no official 'booze cruises' in antigua since the demise of the late great Jolly Roger Pirate ship back in Feb 05. However all of the large catamaran companies offer open bar on their tours so its a head start.

Such as: Treasure Island Cruises, Wadadli Cats & Excellence cruises. (Excellence being my personal fave)

NOTE: Plans are in the works for a replica Jolly Roger type vessel with booze cruises called the 'Black Swan' It just arrived on island and needs about 7-8 months of refurbishing to be ready so perhaps by spring or summer 07. I do not know any contact details or official dates as yet.

3. The new buildings at Turner's beach belong to Mrs Turner, the owner and they are new guest houses. 268 462-9133 for contact

Antigua Premier Tours?

I have booked with them for Feb, 2007. They answer their emails promptly and have great rates. (Altho Carl's email doesn't work, Gordon's does). I am wondering about other's opinions of them.

Thanks,

Sheila

Do you have a web site for Excellence cruises and is best to book through RCI or do it on our own?
