anteldel Posted December 10, 2006 #128 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Hi, Do you have any idea when the Canopy Tour through http://www.antiguarainforest.com will be open? Originally it was to be in November and we booked it for our January 2007 cruise but were notified that the excursion was cancelled.

steveaaaa Posted December 16, 2006 #131 Share Posted December 16, 2006 Ok Antigua Guy, A group of us have booked a March, 2007 cruise and we dock in Antigua on 3/13/2007 from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm. What we like to do is hire a local guide for 5-6 hours which includes a tour of the island, stopping at local places of interest, do a little shopping and then spend the last 1-1/2 hours (or longer) at a beach to swim, relax, have something to eat & drink & snorkle before going back to the ship. I'd say right now there would be a minimum of 6 people with the possibility of up to 15 people who would be interested (if the price is right) in this type of tour. Who can I contact to set this up? headusher I was there 3 weeks ago, There are many drivers with large vans offering a tour for $20 for 4 hours. I am sure you can cut your own deal right there with little effort.I was amazed at the shear number of drivers trying to get customers.I am sure you have read about other tour guides here, but why pay almost double when you can get a private tour for your group for about $5 per hour per person. Host Star Posted December 18, 2006 #133 Share Posted December 18, 2006 Hi,Do you have any idea when the Canopy Tour through www.antiguarainforest.com will be open? Originally it was to be in November and we booked it for our January 2007 cruise but were notified that the excursion was cancelled. I was just in antiqua last week and we rode thru where they are building the zipline canopy tour... I would never do it.. it looks scary to me :(.. they are still building platforms , etc.. so I'm not sure when it will be finished, but they are busy working on it..all i could think of is ' you have to be crazy to do it'.. lol... Enchantment 04 Posted December 18, 2006 #134 Share Posted December 18, 2006 Hello, i dont have time to read through all the posts, sorry if my question has been asked/discussed before!! joenjoe Posted December 25, 2006 #135 Share Posted December 25, 2006 Can you tell me about what I can expect to pay for a taxi ride for myself and my wife from Sandals Antigua to some place called Jolly Roger casino? I have learned that it should take about 20-30 minutes each way. Thanks.

SANDPEBBLES Posted January 1, 2007 #138 Share Posted January 1, 2007 We're sailing to Antigua the first week in February, 2007. There's a group of us with varied interests. One cruiser is wondering about Fort Bay Beach. What does it have to offer? Is it within walking distance from the cruise port? I'm very interested in going to Long Bay, but concerned about cab fare. Can five people fit into a cab? If so, what would a reasonable roundtrip fare be for the group to split? As we're driving to Long Bay (without any special stops), will we end up getting a nice tour of the island? In other words, will we pass by noteworthy places on our way to Long Bay? My hope is that the cab ride will be provide us with a nice look at Antigua while we're on our way to Long Bay. Any information would be SO appreciated. We sail in a month. :)

I would hire a van driver and have him give you the highlights tour and then drop you off at a beach and wait. There are so many vans trying to get business that you should be able to cut a nice deal at a very reasonable price for the day. caribbeanchickie Posted January 6, 2007 #143 Share Posted January 6, 2007 Hey Antigua-guy. Do you happen to know if Carnival Destiny docks in St. John's Harbour? We will be there in Sept. Thanks PS. Will have more questions later on. :D Okay: Concerning the best snorkeling beach: Answer: Long Bay This i a really remote beach where you can snorkel directly from the beach front. There is a great hotel & restuarant there where you can eat, drink & rent snorkel gear. Turners beach: is a vey scenic beach on the south coast. Turners beach bar & grill has great food and you can rent beach chairs & showers with some water sports. It can get a bit crowded on cruise ship days because more people are getting to know the area. The sand is very soft, white & beautiful. the sea is warm and clear. You can see the volcanic island of monsterrat quite clearly from there. its about an half hour drive from st johns & should run you about $15 bucks round trip. i believe someone said something about walking from the ship dock to Nelson's Dockyard. You can only do that if your ship docks at Falmouth Harbour on the south. most cruise ships cannot dock there because of the shallow waters & lack of facilities. Its more for smaller ships, private yachts & the such. Most likely you will dock in St John's Harbour which is about 35-40 min drive to Nelson's Dockyard. Hope I was helpful!!!:D
lawgirl Posted January 7, 2007 #144 Share Posted January 7, 2007 Hello Antigua Guy! I hope you can answer this for me -- this board has had all kinds of differnt responses to how much (about) a taxi will cost fromt he pier to Pineapple All-Inclusive Resort -- the REsort said $55 to $70 ONE WAY for up to four people. Can you offer any help? Would renting a car be a better option?? Thanks.

Loucat Posted January 10, 2007 #146 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Antigua Guy- You have been great to continue to respond to CC members! I have another question. How can I find information on a private tour for 4 adults in February? We are on Radiance and want to see as much as we can. We are not "beachies", but loved the idea of lobster at Turner's Beach. We were in Antigua last March and loved Eli's Eco Tour. Many thanks!!:D

But now that I,ve seen this post I'm not sure anymore. Do you know if I can find a tour which would show me a bit of the island and drop me off and pick at one of the two above beaches ??? TrishePat Posted January 19, 2007 #150 Share Posted January 19, 2007 I would really like a name of a local guide, to take us shopping, to the beach and to his favorite restuarant. I don't want to go to the pier and wing-it with an unknown. Anyone have a name. Thanks.
