Summary of Winning Bids on Priceline, Hotwire, etc.

Have been trying to secure a pre cruise room for about 2 months now for Jan 12.

Started tonight with a bid on 3 star in SJ area at $125. Got a message that if I increased by $22, I could bid same area again. Went back in on a free bid, increased $10 and got the San Juan Water and Beach Club Hotel, a boutique listing.

Can anyone who has stayed there tell me anything about it? I was hoping to get closer to OSJ but that's the luck of the draw I guess. (I had a back-up booked at the Comfort Inn and will cancel it now.)

Hi...having only used Priceline once--& what I wanted WAS the only one in the area I picked with the stars (in Sydney Aus) someone on CC helped me thru it...so this time I was on my own--our son & dil are coming with us & he was startign to worry about a hotel--actually I wanted one of the "fire-hazards" in Old San Juan..none the less I kept going back & forth--our ship won't be leaving from #3-4 pier--but across the bay I think..so as son wanted better I was trying for "RESORT"--starting at $100..but it came back & said no but I needed to change something...well I really only HAD to choose SJ area..so I backed out & went looking again & thought I could go for 3*'s & hope--but I put it in & all of a sudden it came up "BOUTIQUE" & it took my bid (got it for $110 + taxes)--the hotel is the SAME as you are at...which wasn't even in the listings..I see it is a "modern" & looks clean so it should be fine--but quite a way to Old SJ--as wanted son/dil to see the forts--we have been there twice. So hoping the hotel is ok...it should be fine.. Still trying to figure out a waterfall in the elevator.

Wow!!! You don't need to worry, far from it, you guys just scored one of the best hotels in the world as far a boutique hotels go! Yes, there are actually waterfalls in the elevator, they are behind glass and are really cool, there are also no ceilings so you can look up as you ascend. There is a really nice roof bar and pool area. The hotel is right on the beach. The hotel's restaurant, Tangerine, is one of the top restaurants in Puerto Rico. Search my posts and you'll see a review since I took my wife there the night we got engaged. It's very expensive though and I think that would be the only drawback, that and it is farther from Old San Juan than hotels in the Condado District. I'll try to post some pictures, but I'm afraid I don't have any of the waterfall elevators. Enjoy!

bid $120 san juan Resort 3/29/08 1 night pre cruise

suggested $22 more. i tried $11 more, didn't work

I then bid $142 and won Intercontinental Hotel and Casino

cancelled my backup of hampton inn ($195)

No comparison. Reviews on Trip Advisor for Intercontinental are excellent.

I'm very happy. Happier if Sat and Sunday are sunny days!!!

I just returned from Hilton-I was not charged any Resort Fee using Hotwire-The room was $126 the taxes and fees were $14-$140 total

This seems lower than pricelines fees-I am a huge priceline fan but this time it was a better deal through HW

We love the Hilton. Our room was in the Hilton Towers. The rooms were a little dated but fine. Last year we were in the Garden Tower it was much much nicer. The grounds are so beautiful that you don't spend much time in our room.

As far as restaurants we ate at El Jiberalti(sp) in Old San Juan great PR food and local favorite.

Other than hotel's restaurants, which were too pricey, there is a Subway and a little grocery store near by.

Join the Hilton Honors club free online, you will be able to check-in quicker.

Harry O, how far is that restuarant from the hotel?

We are flying in a day prior to our cruise, and we have Victor from Countryside tours to pick us up , do a tour and drop us off at the hotel.

Did you cab it back to the hotel after dinner or did you try the local bus?

How much is the cab fare from hotel to the pier? We are leaving on the Crown Princess 3/15.

I have a room precruise, but want to book postcruise using priceline. There are 3 of us--my self and 2DDs 20yo---can I risk bidding for 1 room for all of us?

Have used priceline long ago, but got 2 rooms for w/2 in each room. Have also used hotwire, but since it won't let me choose "flight and hotel", so I can't figure out which hotels are offered.

Thanks in advance!

Nevermind about hotwire, I've figured that one out.

We bid successfully on Priceline for post-cruise stay @ $115/night

at Intercontinental using Resort category... dates 4/27 - 4/29/08.

We made a backup reservation at Coral Princess for pre-cruise dates

4/18 - 4/20/08... Trip Advisor has this boutique hotel listed as #2

with rates starting at $115 for standard and $135/night for deluxe.

Based on what we're reading about Coral Princess, we think we'll

just keep this hotel for the pre-cruise stay.

This is a great thread and it leads me toa question or two. First off I have seen some great successes bidding through PL for the Intercontinental. Are all of these cases for two people. That's the big drawback that I can tell from using Priceline. I have 4 people total and I want to do a precruise stay in Jan 2009. I can get the Inter. for about $186 before taxes using Hotwire and I know up front that I am requesting for 4 people. I'd love to get it down a few more dollars using Priceline but I need to be sure that I get a room big enough for 4 people. Help!!

I've got the same issue - 4 of us in the one room too. I've got different dates than you & I've been looking at Hotwire too. There's a resort listed there but I'm afraid it's the El San Juan. How did you know it's Inter on Hotwire? What makes they're listing different from the El San Juan?

I bid on Priceline and got the Marriott Stellaris for 5/31. I emailed Marriott and requested 2 doubles, since there's 4 of us, they emailed back and said I was all set. Not so for Sherton Old San Juan for post cruise stay. I emailed their reservations dept for all Sheratons and they said I needed to deal with it thru Priceline, which of course you can't. I have heard people just requesting doubles at check in with no problems. I think I will call the hotel directly and see what happens. If that doesn't ck out, I will hope for the best at check in. Though my kids have slept in some odd places in odd positions before.....;)
