Learned something new today about cabin guarantees

I had booked a category 12 guarantee on the Century, I also booked an a category 12 guarantee for my niece. We both were upgraded to category 9 but mine was on Deck 10 way forward and my niece got Deck 9 way forward. I called Celebrity and they told me once you have been upgraded to a specific category, you can change cabin locations as long as you stay within that category and there is availability. I was able to change us to category 9 cabins next to each other in a more midship location on Deck 9. I had always thought that when you booked a guarantee, you had to accept whatever cabin they gave you, not so.

even as a TA I thought the same as you: I guess the subject just never came up before. Thanks for the update. NMnita

But that's assuming a cabin is even available. I have pretty much all but given up booking guarantees.

Once I got stuck in a very noisy cabin right by an elevator lobby. One other time I was over the casino and heard bells and noise all night. So now I prefer to just pick my cabin.

We actually had a different experience in April 04, we thought we had booked a specific cabin, however, the TA booked a guarantee(?!?) and when we got our documents it indicated that we had a very non-desirable cabin (not a category upgrade), in the end, the only option we had was to just give up the room and see what we randomly got assigned to, we couldn't select a specific cabin. In the end we got a much better cabin and dropped the TA.

I am just going through my first "Guarantee W" assignment. It was supposed to be a Sky Suite or better but my cabin is a smaller one in a lesser category (Century Suite). My TA is calling to see what happened but I don't have hopes of being reassigned because the cruise, which departs next Sunday, is Sold Out. :(

The difference between the guaranteed balcony stateroom and the regular price is about 200-300 per passenger. I am willing to spend 400-600 less per cabin for whatever they assign. So far, my cabins have been midship and great. No complaints. My next cruise there wasn't a guarantee available but i got an even better deal on one of the last sunset verandas. i think the particular cabin has a smaller balcony but I saved some big bucks by booking in advance. Can't wait.

Shop early for cruises- I think that is a good rule in general. More selection and savings. Never saw the rate go down after I booked.

My son and I booked a Zenith suite and a CC cabin for the December 18, 2006 Zenith sailing; approximately 4 months after we booked the CC rate was reduced. Celebrity gave us the lower rate ...about a week before final payment was due. It was a savings of about $500.00. He contacted Celebrity about the reduction; they don't automatically give it to you.

  • 2 weeks later...
Does anyone know when you can call to find out your cabin assignment? I booked a guarantee through NWA and sail in less than two months. Is it too soon?

Thanks much!

If you go to X's website and do the online check-in, you can see if they assigned it yet. You will need res # and sail date.

I had booked a CAT 10 at 11 price because of CC. I always check the prices and found one day that OV GTY's were $20 more. My TA upgraded me. A day later went to online checkin and saw that I was assigned cabin at a CAT 7. Did research on cabin and found out it was very noisy. Went online, saw open cabins in that CAT and my TA changed it for me.It was a breeze. Couldn't beat that at all... Upgraded 4 CATs for hardly anything :D

They didn't upgrade us, but I wasn't expecting much since we paid pennies (relatively) for the cruise. Our inside cabin is right across from the medical center and next to a double upper berth cabin.

As a plus, it's not below the casino or next to the kids' center. I do worry about being across from "white space" , though. Some folks mention those areas are loud?

I'll do a little more research before considering a move.

Thanks again!

Hi Michelle....We are on the same cruise as you and paid pennies too!!LOL. However, we have not been assigned a cabin yet. I have joked to others that we paid so little we are going to be in the hallway!! Did you book a guarantee?

Ha Ha!!! After telling DH where our cabin was located, he asked if were going to be under water. :D

I really don't mind. This will be our first inside cabin and I'm interested in finding out how much I miss the window or balcony. Hopefully, we won't miss those perks so much and we'll be able to cruise more often.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Maybe the upgrade fairy will bless you with an outside!

Have a great day, M.

We chose ocean view cabins for our first few cruises, then booked a guaranteed inside and were assigned a midship high deck cabin. We absolutely loved the inside - one can really sleep well as they are so dark.

Having said that we have just booked a 24 night back to back in ocean view and balcony, but only because the price was so good. Even then, we toyed with booking an inside regardless (which would have been dearer!) as we enjoyed it so much!

Of course, it's personal choice, but I would not hesitate in booking an inside cabin on another occasion.

We did an inside once before, as it was inside or noside!!!:p The only thing I didn't like about it was when you wake up, you don't know whether it is 3 AM, 6AM or noon!! Someone helpfully posted that you set the TV to the ship's webcam and then you will get a little light into the cabin when it is morning. Otherwise the cabin is great and they do use mirrors to create a spacious impression.

Michele, here's hoping the upgrade fairy gives us balconies.......................It's only 7 weeks to go and there are cabins available in all categories so I don't think the ship is very full. Perhaps we will be able to upgrade for a reasonable price on sailing day.

I have a question/situation on this topic-

We sail in one month (yeah!) and booked a specific SS cabin for my mother and DS b/c it is two doors down from our CS for DH, other DS and me. (couldnt get right next to each other) Now, a Suite guarantee is available and it would be about a $500 savings. Based on these posts I'm thinking of seeing if we could change the booking to the guarantee, hope that the room assignment happens quickly and then reassign to our original room. There is another one right next to it (the dreaded 6102 with the smaller balcony) so at least we would probably not have a problem.

Do you think I should try to do it? Would they even let us do it since we are well past final payment? Would they give us a credit or a SBC? (We could use it for corkage fees!!! ;)

Any info would be helpful! Thanks

I just rebooked outside guarantees for me and my neice and waited 36 hours for the additional charges to clear my credit card, then the cabin numbers appeared on X's website. I don't think they assign cabin numbers until you are paid in full, at least Celebrity. If you are at final payment, they wait until charges clear and then they post your cabin number.

Well, I called X and asked if we could change to the guarantee and they said yes. BUT contrary to OP, they said once we were assigned we could NOT change rooms. So we would be gambling on whether we would get the same room back or not. But since I posted the guarantee price went down by $550 a person, so $1100 savings!

Help! Did this person from X just not know what she was talking about????? We dont want to be on separate decks or opposite sides of the ship. We have already made final payment, so would the room appear instantly?

Also, did you notice that whenever you call X you can hear yourself echo back into the receiver? It drives me nuts!!!
