The Constant Traveller Posted January 2, 2008 #103 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Helen Hayes, James MacArthur, Shirley McLaine and Prince Albert of Monaco, all on the same cruise, in 1990. All very nice people and all just on holiday.
NiteStar Posted January 2, 2008 #104 Share Posted January 2, 2008 The closest I've come to being on a ship with a "celebrity" was when Lorna Luft (Liza Minnelli's half sister) was part of the entertainment. By the way....one night while sitting in the casino which was just outside the theatre, we could hear her singing (the doors to the theatre were open) and if you didn't know who it was, you would have sworn it was Liza herself. momofmeg Posted January 4, 2008 #107 Share Posted January 4, 2008 Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel when I was on the QE2 as a kid One of my dinnermates on my last cruise-he was around 30 or so-said he sailed that ship as a kid and "hung out" with the son and daughter of Carly simon and James Taylor. I guess Cunard attracts celebrities. Once on Canrival Inspiration (2003) we ate lunch with a guy who looked just like Charlie Sheen-I told him that and his wife just laughed and said he was told that all the time. BTW-she looked like the average 30 something gal and not charlie's exwife who he was still married to at the time. I would have sworn it was him too except I figured with his money he would pick something better then an aging (even in 2003) Carnival ship. momofmeg Posted January 4, 2008 #108 Share Posted January 4, 2008 Little people in a big world( Matt and Amy Rolloff) no kids. Freedom of the Seas last Sept. They were on my October 2005 Mariner of the Seas cruise along with about 300 more LP. This was before their show debuted but I had recognized them from a documentary, just a one time show, that they had done about twins and genetics on TLC. I actually went up and asked them had I seen them on TV. I embarrased my hubby to death but they said yes and told me about their show coming up so I am glad I did! So I guess them and the almost Charlie Sheen guy are all the celebs I have seen on a cruise.

Grandpaul Posted January 9, 2008 #112 Share Posted January 9, 2008 Let's see; Lew Burdette MVP of the 1957 World Series, Gloria Gaynor, all of Elvis's musicians and backup singers, Sam Philipps who founded Sun Records but the best of them was Soupy Sales. 7 days of just laughter anywhere you saw him. We took my son on a cruise a few years ago and people kept asking him if he was Toby Keith. We were wondering who the heck that was. We got home and my wife started investigating and sure enough, our son looks just like him, only shorter. So now my wife plays his music ALL DAY LONG. Mango Mike Posted January 10, 2008 #113 Share Posted January 10, 2008 On our 2006 Alaska cruise on the Radiance of the Seas, I ran into Doris Roberts (Marie on "Everybody Loves Raymond). I mean physically ran into her, damn near set her on her butt (on my way to the Windjammer to EAT MORE!). We saw her numerous times during the cruise, very nice lady. lola loves cruising Posted January 15, 2008 #115 Share Posted January 15, 2008 Back in the days of the Royal Viking Line, we were on a cruise with astronaut "Buzz" Aldrin. Eva Marie Saint, the actress, was also on that cruise. She was very friendly--we were on a couple of shore excursions with her and her husband. CosmicCruisingKiwi Posted January 15, 2008 #116 Share Posted January 15, 2008 I was on Crystal with Neil Armstrong and his wife. The crew acknowledged his presence and asked us all to respect his privacy--so we did. Saw him many times just sitting quietly in the lounges--I think he would have had a heck of a lot more fun if he'd mingled a bit and/or allowed others to approach. As far as I am concerned, and much more so than entertainment celebrities, he "belongs" to the American people--we should have had the opportunity to have a brief chat--even a short lecture on a sea day would have been memorable. I really feel though that it was more his loss. Cathy I'm a huge spacenut, and have read heaps about Neil Armstrong. He's intensely private - a recent biography (which I'm pretty sure he authorised) said he really abhorred the idea of being a celebrity about what he'd achieved - basically he wanted to deflect anything about his career back onto the events itself. Not sure if that has worked, but I can understand his motives.
verobeachbum Posted January 15, 2008 #117 Share Posted January 15, 2008 In June my family and I were on the Liberty of the Seas and we saw Gloria Estefan on the ship with her husband and daughter. She is the nicest lady. I've been a fan since the 80's. My husband asked her bodygaurd if he could take a picture of me with her. She said yes but I was to embarassed and Gloria Estefan sent her family member down the hall after me. We actually taked for a few minutes before everyone started mobbing her. We also were told that Mike Row from "Dirty Jobs" was filming on the ship.

Loyal2RoyalCaribbean Posted March 2, 2008 #120 Share Posted March 2, 2008 One of the entertainers for my '04 Voyager cruise was The Platters (jazz band from '50s-'60s era) Dunno if they count, but they had a liking to me lol, they didn't know 12 year olds (at the time- now 16) had any interest in old musical groups like theirs. We ended up buying their CD and they signed it for us, we met up with them again in Johnny Rocket's where they sat with us...quite a group we were. I almost went on the cruise that Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR racing driver) went on around the time he won the Daytona 500 but we couldn't get tickets in time...what a bummer that was. Schlepporello Posted March 2, 2008 #121 Share Posted March 2, 2008 My wife and I took a vacation to Branson, MO one time. This is when the Platters had a theater there (I don't know for sure if they still do or not). The Golden Corral Retaraunt was right behind their theater and they frequented it often. My wife and I went in there for dinner one night and a busload of retirees were in there eating. Two of the guys from The Platters walked in to eat. Someone mentioned to them that one woman on the bus group was celebrating here 91st birthday that day. They grabbed a microphone and annouced her birthday and then sang "Happy Birthday" to her. I thought that was kind of neat.

sillysmom Posted March 4, 2008 #123 Share Posted March 4, 2008 Don't know if it was our first or second Disney Cruise so it was either 2004 or 2005, but we cruised with a pregnant Rena Sofer. I think she used to be on soap operas, but now she's on the show Heroes. She plays the wife of the man who would be president (she used to be in a wheelchair but now she can walk) Imagine that! lmao. lsycko1 Posted March 5, 2008 #124 Share Posted March 5, 2008 Back in 2001 I was on a cruise with Richard Simons and his cruise to lose. He was very nice, and even chatted with me on shore at one of the shops. When I asked to have a photo taken with him, hiked up his leg and said "grab my butt".. I was so shocked that in the pic I am all red... It was great!
kat89447 Posted March 6, 2008 #125 Share Posted March 6, 2008 We were on a 3 day cruise a few years ago and also aboard were: -former Pres. George Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush -Neil and Jeb Bush with members of their families -and the twins Jenna and Barbara Bush It was strange...I kind of forgot they were aboard...then I would see one or more of them (always with a secret service agent or 2 around). Couldn't really believe my eyes. There was always a coast guard ship visible as well as a (blackhawk) helicopter. Was that the disney wonder? A friend of mine works for Disney and part of his job was taking care of the twins. Had a blast right up until disembarktion when the twins were not in their room, but hanging with the crew. My friend thought they were toast till Fmr. Pres laughed and told them he was a teenager once. There was also a sub along side the cruise the whole time so they could travel with less security visable.
