willmschen Posted December 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2006 We recently finished a cruise on Regatta and played in the casino a few times. There was no fee to buy chips or cash them in, at least with cash. I don't know if there is a fee to charge chips to your account.
jazzyman Posted December 21, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted December 21, 2006 I just got my tickets and it was stated in the Cruise Vacation Guide By the way did you wind Any Poker tournaments?
willmschen Posted December 21, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2006 Yes, I did net small winnings, but not enough to brag about. I did look up on Oceanea's web site the reference to the 5% fee for purchase of chips. If they are doing this, it is new since our cruise in November. I think charging a 5% fee to purchase chips is outrageous and I would not play rather than pay the fee. There were no poker turnaments or any other kind of tournaments in the casino on our cruise or the three other Oceana cruises that we have been on. Rare LHT28 Posted December 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2006 I wonder if it is like other cruiselines that charge the fee if you use your S&S card to purchase chips. Just a thought.
potterhill Posted December 22, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 22, 2006 I can't comment on the charge because we never went to the casino on our recent Lisbon-Rio cruise. Took our dish of quarters from the last cruise with us and brought it home again. Pointless, really. There was a blackjack tournament on one of the later sea days. There was a $25 charge to play. I think they had some prizes but I don't know what they were. I tried to get DH to enter as he's pretty good at blackjack, but that day there were several things we wanted to do so he opted not to. He walked by and saw about 5 players. Mo
hgatsawgrs Posted December 22, 2006 #7 Share Posted December 22, 2006 did you get the answer- no charge for chips if you use money. There is a charge if you get them for credit( that is, charge them to your room account) No charge for cashing chips in. Fairly normal on all cruise lines. So, if you want to avoid the charge bring cash or use an A.T.M- ( they also have charges as you know). Hope this is now clear to you.
jagoffee Posted December 23, 2006 #8 Share Posted December 23, 2006 I recently received my Oceania Cruise vacation guide and it states that Cash Advances are available at the Reception Desk. A daily limit of $500 per registered credit card, can be billed to your credit card for a 5% transaction fee. Perhaps this is causing some confusion, I would suspect it is the same in the Casino. I hope that no one would be required to take advantage of rip off. Perhaps just a responsible way for Oceania to encourage guests not to lose more than they can afford. That would be the positive view. Obviously this is not how it is done on all cruise lines. On other cruise lines, I have been able to get casino chips that I charged to my room account without a fee. I did this, just so I could get more miles on my charge card.
