GayleR Posted February 12, 2007 #201 Share Posted February 12, 2007 On our Conquest cruise last year, DH, twin DS wore tuxes as did the DH and grown DS of our tablemates. I'd say at least 30% of the men were in tuxes. I've learned from this board, that each week can be a totally different experience from the previous week. Not just in dining room attire, but in the passengers, # of kids, etc....
1gramma Posted February 12, 2007 #202 Share Posted February 12, 2007 If I were you, I'd want to have a key to my kids' room, so rather than switch, can't you request extra room keys so everyone can access both rooms? While under normal circumstances I would agree, the "kids" are 16 and 17. Very good girls so I have no worries where they are concerned. I'm not even worried about the S&S part. I just want to make sure that when we get on and off the ship with this card as part of our ID that all is ok.

Also, what would be appropriate for an 11 year old son? Thanks! Women wear everything from full length to knee length dresses. I took a LBD (little black dress) for one night and black cocktail pants and top for the other formal night. As far as an 11 year old DS, when my boys were that age, they wore khaki pants, shirt, tie, and blue blazer. I would suggest that your sone wear at least a shirt and tie. My boys like to dress up, so it wasn't a problem getting them to wear the blazer. On our cruise last year we rented tuxes for DH and twin DS. The boys were 13 during that cruise. They absolutely LOVED the attention they received while wearing their tuxes. I got some great family photos out of it, too.

Carolyn1950 Posted February 13, 2007 #207 Share Posted February 13, 2007 Does the casino have tickets or is it all cash plays? What I mean is when you cash out, does it give you a ticket? Also, has anyone ever stayed in cabin 6300? I was wondering if the bed is a king or regular? If you can help, thanks in advance.. I tried the search feature but it kept timing out on me.. sandsand Posted February 14, 2007 #208 Share Posted February 14, 2007 How are the curtains on the balcony rooms at keeping the light out? We love it dark when we sleep and usually bring closepins for keeping the curtains together and always put a towel under the cabin door. Since they are floor-length we're hoping that the cabin will stay pretty dark. Do I need to pack the clothespins?
Hebejeebe Posted February 14, 2007 #209 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Is it safe to wear my diamond wedding ring?? What's the rule on jewelry? It is certainly safe to wear jewelry on board the ship. Carnival puts safes in the room and that's where you should keep jewelry when you go into port IMO.

stage2 Posted February 14, 2007 #211 Share Posted February 14, 2007 I don't know if they'll keep out all the light. Haven't been on the conquest yet, but the others I've been on let some light in. I like it really dark to sleep. But I like a balcony better than I like really dark, so I'll catch up on the sleep later!
stage2 Posted February 14, 2007 #212 Share Posted February 14, 2007 COLOR="Red"]4 more days! Does anyone know about the basketball court? I've read where they only allow their basketball to be checked out during certain hours, but what about if my son brings his own? I'm not expecting it to be really warm enough to spend lots of time in the pool on the first and last days. JoAnn
bluefins Posted February 14, 2007 #213 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Sorry, back to the formal attire . . . my husband took a suit coat on our last 2 cruises. He said this time he refuses. He will wear dress pants, a dress shirt and tie, but no coat. Do you think they will let him in? I wouldn't want to eat dinner on formal night without him. Thanks, Darla

ShoMeChiefsFan Posted February 16, 2007 Author #215 Share Posted February 16, 2007 I have found this to NOT be the norm on the Conquest. I believe in dressing properly for dinner (and lunch and breakfast for that matter), but on formal night the majority of men wore dark suits. A few in tuxes, but less than 15%. I find they rarely enforce the dress code although I think they should. As Suzy says, French Impressionism. All the public rooms are named for artists. The art and decorations and the decor, especially in the dining rooms is beautiful. The atrium lobby has a mural of most French Impressionist artists and their work. The lighting and glass work in the public rooms is all French Impressionist and depict scenes from the artwork. I love the Sunflower in the aft atrium and the lamps in the dining room especially. The walls of the corridors and passageways are also decorated. Even an artists tile in your toilet. A very beautiful ship. thanks snoozeman for answering my questions! SmileyFaceM Posted February 16, 2007 #220 Share Posted February 16, 2007 I've seen posts that state no irons are in the rooms nor are they allowed. There are irons and iron boards available in the ship laundry rooms (on every other floor I think). I may just have to the use that joke about being in another port on the return. :D Michelle

Don't want to be kicked out of the capitan's gala night! Also, what would be appropriate for an 11 year old son? Thanks! Got this email out of the blue from my PVP: What to WearWorried about what to wear on your upcoming cruise? Well don’t be. It's your vacation! We’ve outlined everything you’ll need to look your best and feel even better. Casual: Now's the time to sport your Tropical shirt, colorful bathing suit and your cool sunglasses. Casual attire and resort wear is the order of the day both on board and in port. This includes, but not limited to: Shorts, slacks, sundresses, blouses, a pair of rubber-soled sandals or sneakers and a pair of good walking shoes. Oh! Don't forget your sunscreen and hat. You might also want to bring a sweater or jacket for cool evenings and inexpensive rain gear in case of a sudden shower. The Lido Restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal: You'll have a chance to dress up and meet the Captain! -- tuxedo; suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit; etc -- on two nights during 7 day or longer cruises (one night on shorter cruises) for the Captain's Cocktail Party and the Gala Farewell Dinner. Casual Resort Wear, including: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit and Capri pants are acceptable in the Dining Room every other night. Please note that shorts, t-shirts, tank tops and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner.

Thanks, Nan There are 2 formal nights, the first one is on the second day, and i would imagine the other one would be the next sea day back to Galveston. havent seen a comment or tip on and iron and ironing board do cabins have these or whats the scope i told my dw that if a cruise is scheduled to come back to home port on april 1st (fools day) that sometimes the ships go to a different port and the captain then comes on and says april fools lol:) :) :) When we sailed my wife packed her own....if you do bring it, make sure you bring a extenstion cord. As for the ironing board, you have to make due with what you got... you can use the bed, there counter, and if i belive i think they may have iron boards at the pursers desk as well, but i am not 100% sure on that....but i do know they have irons available. Be careful or the IRON POLICE on this board will come after you. :D Seriously, I think your PVP gave you some bad advice. Irons are on the prohibited list. If your steward sees the iron, I believe I read that they confiscate it. Irons are considered fire hazards. I can't explain why curling irons and hot rollers are allowed and irons are not. Oh, and candles are a no-no, too.
