Platinum and Diamond recognition by staff

Recommended Posts

My interpretation of Mike's post is that, it doesn't matter what level you are in C&A.........we all are equal and are entitled to the same little perks as he mentioned.

He didn't mention the coupon booklets that are found on the bed when you first board.........those are different depending on your level in C&A.

Congratulations..........soon you will be a shiny Diamond on all future RCI cruises!!:D

By goodness, yes cruisenfever, you have decifered my code. ;)

I so agree that all guests should be treated equally no matter their status. And so far from my experience they have been for the most part. I have traveled alone, with other diamond members and with all levels of c & a members at one time or another, and have never seen a difference in the way people were treated.

Saying all that, I do think it's extra special when someone on the ship comes out with a "Welcome back" instead of a welcome aboard, because they recognize me from an earlier cruise. I also like, when at the repeaters party, they mention how many cruises are the most completed. It gives me a goal, lol:D. on my last cruise we met a gentleman who was on his 198th RCCL cruise. He didn't get, nor expect, any special treatment. Just a thank you for being a loyal RCCL guest. The loyalty ambassador then went on to thank ALL the guests for being loyal to the line. It costs nothing to recognize a repeater. The gifts are really not important, how many pleather frames does one need. The WELCOME BACK puts a smile on my face and keeps me coming back.

My understanding is that RCI uses the Commodore Club nominations to determine the Employee of the Year.

As a few other posters have noted, we've always been treated like royalty on RCI, even on our first cruise. The tangible perks that come with being Platinum/Diamond/D Plus are very nice indeed, but I appreciate that RCI staff and crew treat everybody well.

Two questions:

What is a Commander card? This is the first I have ever heard of it.

It is a card you get to nominate an employee for outstanding service to the Commodore Club. We were told that Diamond and Diamond Plus C & A members are the ones that receive them. We have nominated someone on our last 4 cruises. There is also one for the employees to nominate other employees that have no direct guest contact.

Never had special treatment from staff. See no reason why we should, nor would I want it!! Just want the cabin done, decent food efficiently served and we are off!!! Free to enjoy ourselves. Don't appreciate bowing and scaping attitudes anyway.

We like the various Diamond perks and the coupon books are fun!! We get invited places 'cos most senior staff think we are 'fun'!! Or so they say!

I noticed while boarding the Serenade last month the guy at the check in counter said "welcome back[/I] to Royal Caribbean Miss Fee" . Also, bartenders always acknowledge that we cruise alot (not necessarly by service, but when they see that it says diamond on the card they inquire about past cruises...etc..). The perks like the CL and diamond and repeaters parties are a nice gesture, and the other little things they do are always a plus....and I think that they most certainly treat us like they care if we return. Maybe we've always lucked out, but from what I've seen they definitely appreciate returning guests.

and never got such a card...........

A Commadore card is a card distributed to D/D+ where you can designate the employee who was most helpful. i.e. the staffer who should get the most recognition. Our waiter on Mariner got this as did Maritza, the Concierge on Serenade.

Thanks Sherri, now I remember the card. We've gotten them since we became Diamond several years ago.

We received the Commodore Card on the last day of our past two cruises. Both times we choose to nominate the Concierge. The Commodore Card has to be handed to guest relations/pursers deck and not dropped in a box like you would do with a comment card.

That was about the same time that the card was delivered to the stateroom. I nominated my room steward who was outstanding.

I agree with you, breal.

A year ago December, we did a B2B on the Sovereign. When crew and staff saw us on the second leg, they sounded sincerely delighted, "Oh, you are sailing with us again? How wonderful!" I always got extra smiles and greetings and warmth.

Then when I went back on again three weeks later, they practically fell all over themselves in ecstasy. It was actually rather funny.

Yes, they notice. Yes, they care. Yes, it's nice. :D

Sorry PH, but Judy & I did occasionally wear our diamond pins and a lot of the staff do know what they are.

Just because it will be the first one after making it, we will wear our D+ pins when we get on the Navigator and maybe some other times.

It's interesting just to see who recognizes what they are.

But, I agree, we generally get treated like royalty whether we have them on or not.

We've been on NCL, HAL, Crystal and the QM2 and RCI has consistently had equal or better service than any on those.

It never ceases to amaze me as to how many posters here think that the cruise line owes them something for being repeat customers...and that any channge or lessening of such perks will cause them to abandon the line...

I am a Diamond C&A member (also an "Elite" Captains Club member on Celebrity)...

But I do not choose cruises based on these very minor club perks...

What keeps us with a cruise line is the cruise itself...the ship, the itinerary, the service, the food, the activities, etc. REGARDLESS of our club status...

Everyone who books and pays for a cruise should be treated well...whether it's your first cruise with a particular cruise line, your fifth, or your fiftieth...

The service should ALWAYS be top notch...they should welcome you and be happy to serve you no matter who you are...just for the fact that you booked and paid for the cruise, are paying their salaries and/or giving them their tips...

I, personally, don't care if they "recognize" me as a Diamond C&A member...I only care that my cabin steward regularly makes up my room while respecting my needs and my privacy and being polite and pleasant and looking after my assorted needs...I only care that my waiter and assistant waiter learn my preferences, are helpful in their suggestions, are prompt in their service and are pleasant, but professional...I only care that the bartenders and bar servers look after my needs without being too obtrusive, promptly bring my drinks and get the orders right...I only care that the cruise director and activities staff are fun and entertaining and help make the cruise an enjoyable experience...I only care that the rest of the staff--the pursers and shorex desk, the shop people and the other crew are pleasant, helpful and concientious...

And ALL of that is something they should be doing for EVERY passenger...They all pay good money for the cruise and they should all be able to expect that same level of treatment...

...and THAT is what keeps ME coming back to Royal Caribbean, Celebrity or any other cruise line that gets my business...

The "perks" and "recognition" are nice, but certainly not material...

We could not have said it better. The battle of the perks continues to amaze and amuse me.

But Paul................do you wear it so you get special treatment?? I think you wear it cuz you're proud of what you have accomplished and have earned the right to wear it........you have done your 24 RCCL cruises........some wear it cuz they think they will get better treatment from the galley cleaner up to the Captain........
