Platinum and Diamond recognition by staff

Recommended Posts

Bingo...That is one of the things that I noticed right away by RCI on my first cruise. I have always been treated the same since day one and that is how it should be. A persons Crown and Anchor status should not be a factor. I know some think that a person should wear their Diamond pin so that they get the respect that they deserve but that's not me.;) :)

I too am a Diamond member, but I would never wear the pin, I don't even know if I still have mine. I feel everyone should be treated equally, and I think they are. I enjoy and take advantage of the financial perks of a Diamond membership; $200 off, custom air, the coupon book. I simply enjoy cruising, and I would feel uncomfortable with any extra attention so I don't go looking for it. I also think a lot of the extra sevice comes from what category cabin you select. We always book a GS and I think they put their most experienced staff on Deck 10, as there is a larger area to cover. I have not lost sight of the fact that a lot of this recognition is simply trying to play with your heads.

Last October for Freedom's C&A Member Cruise our cab arrives at the port with a huge line of folks waiting to board. As we got out of the cab a porter with a big smile pointed at my DH's pin & said DIAMOND MEMBER , GIVE ME YOUR LUGGAGE & ENTER UNDER THE NAVY BLUE WALKWAY. So we did & were on the ship in 15 minutes as they were putting the Diamond/Plus/Suites sign up at check in. We were told 3000 folks were waiting to board.

The Sept 2005 a TA from Harwich, the lady with her RCCL board greets us at the carousel for luggage & has a porter take our bags & follow her. She takes us to her counter & tells us to have a seat next to it &the luggage was behind us. She then goes to get us coffee & scones to munch on while we waited for 43 more folks coming in by 9AM, so we had a 1.5 hour wait. Great service from RCCL, Celebrity never did this for ELITE members.

Waiters even polish them at dinner........

I've received very similar treatment from a measley ol', hoi polloi, first-time cruiser all the way up through Diamond, and I've very happy about that. RCCL has always treated me well. I don't expect anything more, or less.

That said, the loyalty perks are good, and it's nice when the staff acknowledges our loyalty status. However, I don't know if they smile any wider or click their heels any louder because of it. With very few exceptions, I can't say I've been treated any better, and all those exceptions were simply taking advantage of the Concierge's excellent service and willingness to help.

Unlike the others, I can't say that the non-monetary perks are not material to my choice. I get a nice smile when those strawberries show up to the stateroom. It makes my night. Since we travel with small children, it also is comforting to know that the priority embarkation and debarkation are there, just as it is nice to use them. Those perks add significantly to our relaxation and cruise enjoyment.

I also know my brother swung his Platinum hammer a bit after he had a bad experience on the Serenade a little while back, and he felt that helped his case. Fortunately, I've not felt that need.

We will be doing our 7th cruise on Radiance in April. What makes it so special for us is that it's like going back to see family and friends.....especially when they remember our names.

No special treatment expected...............just a wonderful smile and welcome back greeting.

We have always been treated wonderfully by all the crew from the first cruise on. This next one will put us at diamond which I am excited about for the discounts, etc. BUT, I remember the first cruise after turning platinum running up to the platinum/diamond check in saying....WE ARE PLATINUM, WE ARE PLATINUM.... and the check in people were fighting over who would help us check in! ( they obviously weren't busy) but it was really fun!

:o Hi Jim and Patty,

We are going to be cruising April 7 and 14 on Voyager of the Seas. It will be our first cruises since becoming Diamond Plus members. By reading your postings I thought you might also be DP members. Have you ever received an upgrade with that distinction and how good of an upgrade? We are just wondering what extra perks we will receive. We enjoy all of our perks now as Diamond members but naturally wonder about DP,

I would appreciate your reply and you could e-mail me at: butlerjands@aol.com.

Thanks,

Shirley Butler:o

Hafta: There are two things that are extra for Diamond Plus......a chance to take a tour of the Bridge, Galley and Backstage, an amenity of your choosing ie, wine, slippers, towel, tote.

Regarding upgrades.....we have received an upgrade twice in seven cruises as Diamond + [And one was a fight because they first gave me an upgrade, then took it away because they could not immediately get ahold of my TA to authorize it:rolleyes: ]. You will be offered an upgrade 2 to 3 weeks out if there are more than five cabins available in the category that they will potentially upgrade you to.....I heard that it was 2 or 3 cabins available if it's a suite. C&A Diamond desk will call you 2 to 3 weeks out.

Hi Shirley........yes we are D+. Unfortunately we have never received an upgrade, but we normally book a JS cabin. Though I do know that it can happen.

As far as perks go, you will basically get the same thing as you did when you were Diamond, though the coupon book might be different. You should be getting a card in your cabin inviting you to a few things that are only offered to D+ members. One is a behind the scenes tour, one is a tour of the galley and they used to have a tour of the Bridge, but that all depends on the Captain. On Jewel, we got a tour of the Bridge.....on our b2b on Radiance last fall, we were not offered that. You should get some little munchies delivered to your cabin on various days also.

You should also be getting a call from C&A about 2 weeks before your cruise to select a special gift off the list that they will read to you. If I remember correctly you have a choice of wine, choco covered strawberries, beach towel, slippers or a canvas tote bag. If you go onto Gifts & Gear on the RCI website you will see a picture of the tote. That is what we selected for both of our cruises last fall and they are really, really nice. They cost $19.95 to purchase. If you do not get a call from C&A by the week of March 19, I would call them and ask about your special gift.

You already have access to the CL so that's a wonderful perk in itself. Just make sure that when you board to make a point of seeing the Loyalty Ambassador on board to make sure that they have you listed as D+ since this will be your first cruise sailing as such.

We've done several b2b's and really enjoy them. Especially turn around day after the first cruise is over.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise. I decided to post this instead of emailing you because I thought that possibly this will help others who might have the same questions that you had.

I love the thought of quick check-in. It is also neat that the Porter noticed the pin. Did you go to a different security screening area? Which port?

Thanks

with 3000 folks in line to board the ship that immigrations was holding. We loved the porter will a full cart & a HUGE smile telling us to give him our luggage & he pointed where we walk which was a large room with an escalator to the check in area & there they are putting up the sign for Diamond/Plus/Suites check in as we are leaving to board the ship. From our balcony we watched the rush.......

Luckily we have no trouble disembarking since we had a 4PM flight so we played mini golf & enjoyed the sun til we heard PINK called as last off. 2 clerks in customs was ridiculous for all those people.

Last fall in Phila when boarding. There was a back up and I could see the sign that said Plat. and Dia but could not get to it because one of the people directing the lines would not let me through. I saw a crew memeber and told them my problem and was escorted straight through. The only reason I said something was I wanted to catch up with the people I was traveling with that were all ready on the ship and waiting for me at the top of the gangway. My point is that sometimes you do get special treatment, by stating you are a returning customer, I feel the crew always does thier best to make you feel special all the time since until they see your card they have no way of knowing how many times you have cruised. When they pass you on the steps or in the hall they don't know who you are but still give you a heart felt greeting no matter what time of day or night.

We have been on 5 cruises since becoming DP......2 we were offered upgrades.one from a PR to an OV and one from a D1 to an OS............and it has to be 5 in each category..........not lumped together,......say 5 JS or 5 GS or 5OS...not 5 suites altogether........

The other 3 cruises were under 5 days so we're not entitled to upgrades on those till we reach 75 cruises.....

As far as I know,it is 5 cabins even for the suites.......and I know D members that get invites to the tours too..........
