Did you know...

Recommended Posts

That those photos they take when you board, also show up on your account at the pursers desk?

Also, everytime someone uses a card to open your cabin door, it is recorded, including time and who it was? Everytime your cabin steward enters, they have a record, everytime you enter, they have it recorded, borrow DH's seapass card, go enter your cabin, and they show he entered or at least his card was used to enter.

The security cameras are not monitored, they are only recording devices, so if something happens they have it recorded, but no one is physically sitting there watching everything.

Dont know why I just thought of this stuff, but thought some new to cruising folks might like to know these things. They are just some little tidbits.

Well, that explains those sneaky room stewards. :)

It's as if they have a camera and are spying on you. The second you walk out of your room, they sneak in and straighten it up again - without a moments delay. It doesn't seem to matter if you keep a regular schedule - they are all knowing.

Hmmmm, so it's all in the key you say? I think I believe it. ;)

Except for the casino!

On Brilliance, we had to put a "please clean room now" slip in our door, so the steward would know we were out. Otherwise, they assume you are in your cabin, and won't disturb you. I wish hotels would do that, so when I return to my room, it would have been cleaned!!!!

They know what dinner seating you have. They knock first and then enter your cabin to clean it. I have come back to the room to get a drink, I mean a sweater for my wife, and he was in there. No biggie!

The keep an eye out and know when you leave, the steward that is. Some are better than others. I have left my cabin, walked up to the pool, put my stuff down, realized I forgot my drink, errr hat, and went back, gone max 15 min, and my cabin would be done! I love the magic!

Casino cameras, those need to be monitored!

The card only shows when someone enters your cabin, this is for security too. Say you are not seen on deck for a few days, and your waiter says you did not come to dinner, they can see when the last time you entered your cabin, if it was a few days, then they can assume something is wrong, if it was 15 min ago, then they know you are most likely okay but will probably come check on you to make sure.

Right after I got married I went to Galveston to pick up hubby for a few hours on Sunday, I waited and waited and no one was coming off the ship, police were everywhere! Finally he gets off and tells me there was this passenger that died! She was cruising alone, so no one to report her missing right. Well her steward noticed the Do Not Disturb sign had been out for a few days, every time he tried to clean her room. He told his supervisor after the first day, but they kept waiting, finally on day 3, they got security to open her door, and she was in bed, like she had laid down to go to sleep, but she was dead. They found out she had entered her cabin on a certain day at a certain time but had not done it since. She was in her 30s. The death was ruled natural causes. Anyway the whole point is they were able to determine when she entered her cabin by her use of her card to enter.

OK, so how does that explain the morning cleaning? No matter what time we leave the room, we will come back and it's clean again? I don't even use the little "make up room" sign for the door. Something has always seemed pretty sneaky to me.

But no one swipes their card when leaving their cabins. Me thinks the stewards do have magical powers to know when you are in or out. ;)

This is true. So, how DO they know in the AM. I've always understood the dinner seating time although that doesn't mean the occupants are really eating in the dining room each night.

Maybe I've always gotten unusually competant room stewards.

But they don't show up on your account at the end of the cruise, unless you purchase them.

I can't think of a reason why they would show up on your account. Are you certain? Where did you find this out?

Whoops! Nitra, I assume you do have this inside info. I didn't note who had posted this originally. I apologize for questioning you.

And I think I misunderstood your original post. I thought you were referring to the "Welcome on board" photos they took, but when I reread your post, I assume you mean the photos that are associated with your sea pass.

Sorry about that.

I think they only know that the door was opened, this does not necessarily mean that you actually entered or left your cabin. I have often thought I forgot my book, or sunglasses, or whatever and just as I have swiped the card and opened the door, I realize I have the book, or find that I do have my sunglasses and so I never actually enter the room, just shut the door and leave again.

When I was on the Dawn Princess, I could have sworn there was a camera or a motion sensor in my room, cuz 5 minutes after I woke up, the Stewardess was there with my coffee. At different times, no alarm or wake up call or anything

Another employee finally pointed out to me, that she could probably hear my toilet flushing, and thats how she knew I was up.

So, next day, I didnt flush and sure enough.....no coffee....

But the one thing I noticed was that when I came home the magic was gone. I would leave for work and when I came home, the bed wasn't tidied, the towels weren't replaced. I believe that the magic of the room steward is only onboard a cruise ship. :) I wish I could figure out a way to take that "magic" back home. :)

One of my coworkers brother, has found the way to take the magic home or where ever he goes. This guy was the CEO of a large computer chip maker, now he is the chairman of the board of the same company. where ever he goes, people are there to serve his every need. But when you have that much money the magic just followes you.

In November I sailed the Majesty for the 4 night cruise. After returning from Coco Cay I entered the ship with everyone else but when they scanned my card I noticed that it didn't beep and I didn't see my pic when I walked past. They hurried us along and I just never said anything. I went to my cabin to take a little nap and AFTER I felt the boat starting to leave I got a wake up call from security. They just wanted to make sure that I was on the ship because they didn't have record of me boarding. But it must have been that they saw that I used my card to enter the room that they weren't too worried and started sailing away....
