Paper or Electronic, which will you choose?

I had to use IE to get the VIEW link to work. It would not work on Netscape 7.2 or 8.2. We now have our docs, and my wife's first Platinum VIP status is confirmed. Somewhere in this thread, someone said that you could check your OBC (Shareholder) status on the Edocs. I haven't seen that yet, but we are still 99 days out.

Found this in an article that talked about NCL going with e-docs

 

Carnival Cruise Lines said it still uses paper documents but is in the process of testing an e-documents system that will let guests choose paper or electronic.

We went to Hawaii 5/21/05 on NCL Wind. All our documents were e-docs. In a way it was cool because we could download to our computer as well as print them out.

I chose paper, but then tried to see the edocs, and it wouldn't let me. We have already made final payment, as we leave in 56 days. (exactly 8 weeks from today-yahoo!!) I was afraid to chose edocs, but maybe I will. We have 7cabins between us, so I guess I could experiment with at least one of those cabins. I really just want to verify that we got our requested dining time, and I assume by printing out edocs, I will be able to see that.

The biggest draw back is that you have NO luggage tags. We drove to Port Canaveral. This means dropping off the luggage and getting out and filling out the luggage tags curbside.

Carnival has luggage tags with edocs and they have everything but your name on them. They are too cool. I have them and don't even sail untill December:D

 

This is even better than the e-docs from NCL. Sounds like tons better than edocs from RCI.

 

TA's do not get anything more if you do e-docs!!

MIAMI (May 14, 2007) – Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise operator, has rolled out a new electronic cruise document system, providing added convenience and efficiency for the line’s guests.

 

 

Located within the line’s comprehensive Web site, www.carnival.com, the new "paperless" system provides guests with the same travel documentation and information typically available with traditional cruise documents, all in a secure, easy-to-navigate Internet portal accessible on a "24/7" basis. Further, Carnival’s electronic document system is in "real time," ensuring that all guest data is continually up-to-date.

 

 

Carnival’s electronic cruise documents are available to guests any time after final payment is made. If they prefer, guests can opt to have the traditional paper documents mailed to them or their travel agent approximately 30 days prior to their cruise.

 

 

"The innovative new paperless cruise documents system is in tune with Carnival’s philosophy to make maximum use of technology to enhance our guests’ ‘Fun Ship’ experience," said Roberta Jacoby, Carnival’s senior vice president air/sea operations and corporate training. "In addition to unparalleled convenience, security and efficiency, our new e-docs system provides our guests with personalized and customized information for each booking. We do realize, however, that some of our guests still prefer traditional cruise tickets and, therefore, we will offer a choice of either electronic or paper documents," she added.

 

 

The MyDocuments portal provides guests with on-demand access to their Carnival booking, enabling them to print boarding passes, luggage tags and other pertinent information regarding their "Fun Ship" cruise from any Internet-connected computer. Guests simply need to enter their booking number, last name, and ship and sailing date to gain access to the site.

Data contained within the MyDocuments portal is specifically tailored to that guest’s "Fun Ship" cruise with information on embarkation and ground transfers specific to their voyage’s departure point, along with a day-by-day itinerary schedule and a listing of any shore excursions purchased by the guest.

 

 

A new feature is the opportunity for guests who purchased FlyAweigh air/sea packages to view their air schedules within 75 days of their cruise departure date. This information will be available to all guests whether they choose electronic or paper documents.

 

 

Also included is a printable booking summary listing guests’ ship, sailing date, and itinerary, along with Carnival’s popular "Things to Know Before You Go" section with helpful information on dining, tipping, attire and other aspects of the "Fun Ship" vacation experience.

 

 

The document includes a welcome letter from Carnival President and CEO Bob Dickinson, along with printable forms for the line’s Sail & Sign shipboard credit card system, and a copy of Carnival’s standard ticket contract.

The new system is available in conjunction with any cruise aboard Carnival, whose 22 "Fun Ships" operate voyages ranging from three to 16 days in length to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, Bermuda, Europe and the Greek Isles.

 

 

The line currently has three new "Fun Ships" on order – the 113,300-ton Carnival Splendor, scheduled to enter service in July 2008, and the 130,000-ton Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic – to be the largest "Fun Ships" ever constructed – set to debut in October 2009 and June 2011.

I think the amazing thing is they are now alllowing cruise air people to see assignments 75 days in advance. I thought they always like to wait until the last min to book the cheapest flights.
