Sovereign Questions !

Recommended Posts

I am sailing a 3 day in October for my 30th birthday. We have an interior stateroom mid ship on a real low deck.

Me and DH have some questions:

1) How much motion does one feel on this ship when the water is choppy? Does it literally rock back and forth? I have never sailed on a ship this small and am a bit nervous about feeling motion.

2) Is there a dueling pianos? If so, what sort of tunes do they do? Just older songs or a good mix of all genres?

3) What sort of music is played late night in the adult dance club?

4) What other late late night venues are open for adults besides the one dance club, like after midnight?

5) Is there a live band at pool area or recorded music?

6) On 3 days, is SOS anchored with any other Royal ships at CocoCay? Does SOS miss CocoCay a lot due to weather?

Give me any advice or tips you may have from your experience.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Looking forward to my next cruise!

1) How much motion does one feel on this ship when the water is choppy? Does it literally rock back and forth? I have never sailed on a ship this small and am a bit nervous about feeling motion. Have never felt much motion on SOS, and the lower you are the less you will feel

2) Is there a dueling pianos? If so, what sort of tunes do they do? Just older songs or a good mix of all genres?, Yes Dueling Pianos, is in Bolero's, I think every night. Played all sorts in March

3) What sort of music is played late night in the adult dance club? Never Went, Sorry

4) What other late late night venues are open for adults besides the one dance club, like after midnight? Most Bars are open until at least 1:00am

5) Is there a live band at pool area or recorded music? Live band at sailaway and the midnight party, other times recorded

6) On 3 days, is SOS anchored with any other Royal ships at CocoCay? Does SOS miss CocoCay a lot due to weather? Normally SOS is on her own, and yes she does miss CocoCay a lot, normally in the winter time.

Give me any advice or tips you may have from your experience. Kick back and enjoy yourself, have a great birthday, Monday morning comes around real quick!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Looking forward to my next cruise

enjoy

This ship is only 20000 tons smaller than the M Class Celebrity ships. The motion on those ships is noticeable but not until you get to 8 foot seas. the ships stabilizers work well to dampen this out. If there are no tropical systems around to roughen up the seas you will be fine. My 3 navy ships combined displacement does not come close to Sovereign's and I have been in 20 foot seas on a 6000 ton Guilded Missile Destroyer. I have been following Coco Cay a lot (Mariner missed it in March) I would say it is about 70[%-30% for making it to Coco Cay. Dueling Pianos they have. My DW is looking forward to that eagerly. As far as nightime activities I would check out the Reviews on Sovereign on the CC web site. You will get a lot of answers there as well. :D

Keep in mind that SoS is a small ship and doesn't offer as much as the other ships in the RCI fleet. However, that shouldn't be a problem. I had a good time on the Sovereign when I went with my DH and 4 friends.

We found the dance clubs a little cheesy, but after a couple drinks we didn't feel stupid dancing. Mostly, we hung out at the casino and champagne bar (they made good, strong martinis). Each night we closed the casino down. :-) During our night in Nassau, we got a limo and went to the Atlantis casino until very, very late. We actually were a bit worried we'd miss the ship!

We went in August and experienced rain only on departure day. We made it to Coco Cay. You have to tender to shore, so if there's bad weather the captain WILL skip it. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you.

Happy early Birthday!

I have been on the Sovereign a time or two(ok 12:p ).....great short cruise..........you wont be rocking all night long unless you encounter a storm........then again, some people are more sensitive to motion than others.........I could be on smooth seas and some people are whoozy.....

As far as Dueling Pianos,I read on another thread, they are being eliminated fleetwide starting this month:( ........real shame....we liked them.....

Cant help you with the adult night club..we dont go either..........

I love this ship! I don't see any dancing M&M's. Merionmom is a frequent SOS sailor. She can give you all kinds of amazing information. I'm sure she will pop in today.

1) How much motion does one feel on this ship when the water is choppy? Does it literally rock back and forth? I have never sailed on a ship this small and am a bit nervous about feeling motion.

When she was built, she was the largest ship in the world. I feel a tad more motion on her, if the seas are rough, but it's negliable. Remember, I get sea sick in the bathtub.

3) What sort of music is played late night in the adult dance club?

All kinds, from odd techno stuff (not my favorite) to oldies. Oldies, being stuff from the 80's. Since I gradutated in the 80's, kill me now.

4) What other late late night venues are open for adults besides the one dance club, like after midnight?

Bars, casino. You will not be alone.

5) Is there a live band at pool area or recorded music?

Live band at sailaway and at the on deck party. Very FUN!

6) On 3 days, is SOS anchored with any other Royal ships at CocoCay? Does SOS miss CocoCay a lot due to weather?

In winter, as has been mentioned, many ships miss tender ports. It's really hit or miss, but a day at sea is a nice thing.

Other advice. Have fun, try it all. You will love her. She's a nice size for my husband and I. We sail her without the kids, a lot.

I noticed the square footages on Sovereign are smaller but We booked a JS on deck 10 and of the 3 cruises that we have been on or booked this is the largest we have had. Our previous cabins have been 9038 a Concergie Class on Millennium (2 cruise credits) an E2 6326 Hump on Mariner (1 cruise credit) and now JS 1564 on Sovereign set for next March.(2) credits. I may book a short weekend cruise for myself and my son on an Oceanview stateroom before then. the DW is a bit claustrophobic and would not like the smaller size but the son and I can handle it well...... Actually our 22 year old is depressed right now and I may try to get him to go as well. He needs a new Girl the first two had a ton of baggage

Hey!! I have a 22 year old daughter;) ..no baggage...

The insides are small, but my husband and I dont mind...........its only for a few nights.......my inlaws ,on the other hand, hated it.........they had one AFTER having a balcony(JS) on the Sovereign(first cruise) then a balcony on the Mariner(2nd cruise).......of course, that spoiled them forever.....they had that inside for their 3rd cruise.......teach them not to be so cheap anymore..:p

Oh no! That is a real shame. We were both really looking forward to this because we havent seen a dueling pianos on a ship since we sailed Disney...but even they got rid of it. I guess its just not as popular as they would like on ships.

LOL I will send you an email with a picture of all 3 of our boys. All of our cabins have been 185 sq foot or bigger and with our youngest son going next year on Sovereign (he will be 18) we needed a slightly larger room so we booked a JS.

Teeny, weeny rooms. Yes, you will feel this ship move--I find that staying tipsy negates alot of the motion! You can't tell if it's you or the ship! Sov. is a beauty! I LOVE the Viking Crown lounge layout on her! Great views up there!

As far as entertainment goes, the bands rotate from ship to ship, so what we saw when we sailed her may not be the same groups as you will have. They did have a pretty good live steel drum band -- who knows who will be playing in Oct.????

BUT--you will have a great time, no matter what! The crew is very caring and on the ball! If you're prone to motion sickness, start taking Bonine a day before you sail, and continue every day of the trip. That should put an end to any problems you may have. Bon Voyage!!!!

Hey thanks so much guys for your continued responses. The cruise is just around the corner now and I am very excited!!!!! Just hoping peak hurricane season doesnt get in the way of stopping in Nassau. Want to go to Atlantis BADLY. Oh and we upgraded to an oceanview so while it still may be a tiny room, at least I can peek out!

My very first cruise was on Sovereign last October! We had a wonderful time, but the seas were very rough! We really felt the movement all through the ship, even loosing our footing while going down the hall (that is what railings are for LOL) I was very happily surprised that this movement did not bother me in the least, because I have had motion sickness in the past. I never even needed to try any of the remedies we took with us 'just in case'. Actually we decided it was kind of fun all the rocking and rolling. The most fun was the tender to Coco Cay - people were holding up their hands in the air as if it were a roller coaster.

All of this is to say that even if you feel the sea, it won't necessarily spoil your cruise, and maybe it will even rock you to sleep!

Oh, and Happy Birthday!

Patt
