Alain R. I hadn't heard that she's leaving. That's a darn shame, because she and (the old) Crown were my 2 favorite Princess ships to this very day. I loved everything about them---they were super. I dislike the layout of the Grand/Golden---have been on each of them and will not go back. I switched back to RCCL 3 years ago.
NSWP Posted June 27, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2007 Yes and a lot of excited cruisers here waiting for it. We are on last RP cruise, from LA on 31 August, arriving Sydney on 2 October. After about a 6 week refit the Regal, now the Pacific Dawn will be based in Sydney doing 7 to 12 day cruises to Papeete etc, increased pax from 1590 to 2050 with extra beds in many cabins. Casino moving from 'Dome at top' to Stage Tavern area. Movie Theatre also going I think.
Catnip Posted June 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2007 Casino moving from 'Dome at top' to Stage Tavern area. What will be up at the dome where the casino was? That would be a great place for a lounge/nightclub/disco......or part of it a library, or something like that for people to sit and be able to enjoy the great view. NSWP Posted June 28, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2007 CATNIP..The Dome' will become a lounge/dancing area. P&O Australia has a website for Pacific Dawn, explaining all. Surf the net for it. Try P&O Australia website then look for Pacific Dawn. Cheers.;)

Sisboombah Posted June 28, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 28, 2007 I cruised the Regal a couple years ago to Alaska and enjoyed it...though its age was starting to show it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the cruise....
Sisboombah Posted June 28, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 28, 2007 Why do posters that do not cruise Princess, don't like Princess or have never cruised Princess even come on the Princess board to post?? They obviously do not have any current advice to offer. I am a "Princess Cheerleader" but have never posted on any of the other cruiseline boards - negative, neutral or positive!! I'm sure this will get pasted on CTT asap. Ron Whats a CTT??????????????????
NSWP Posted June 28, 2007 #9 Share Posted June 28, 2007 COIRAN..I really cannot see your point..about posting.. AlainBob posted an article about Regal Princess becoming Pacific Dawn..what's wrong with that? Catnip responded, I responded, what's wrong with that? I Cannot work out what you are saying, yes, Regal is becoming a P&O Australia ship 'Pacific Dawn' in October, but the Princess link is still there. By the way what is a cheerleader for Cruise Lines, what do they do? Only cheerleaders I know of are those marching girls at football games, same thing or what? C'mon buddy.

C'mon buddy. Cheerleader- One who LEADS a CHEER. A Princess cheerleader would be one who would fight for their cruiseline when others speak about it negatively. Just a real answer, not being a wiseguy. I agree- MOST people should post... Good/bad or otherwise. Some people just dont post anything legit. Glad to see the people in Australia will be getting such a great ship. I sailed her in about '93 (dont remember much as I was about 8 or 9.) What I do know is she was beautiful(from the pics we took), and im sure she still is... Although it is wierd to see that different paint on her. DameAtSeaII Posted June 28, 2007 #14 Share Posted June 28, 2007 I am sad to see her go. I have sailed on her and her sister, the old Crown and they have always been my favorite Princess ships.......will now be missing both of them. I do love her snazzy new look. Thanks for the links......brings back fond memories.
fathercop Posted June 28, 2007 #15 Share Posted June 28, 2007 AlainBob & Marinearchit: Thanks for the links. They were great. I did like the video. I am sad to see the ship leave the Princess fleet. We had so many friends who sailed with her and gave us great reviews. Sorry, we were unable to sail on her has the Regal. Who knows, DW and I might make a trip Downunder just to get on this ship. bdjam Posted June 28, 2007 #16 Share Posted June 28, 2007 Regarding Regal Princess - I think they're finally doing the right thing with The Dome, getting the casino out of there. I think it will be much nicer as an observation/dance lounge. Too bad Princess didn't do that in the first place - when Sitmar put the plans in place for Regal Princess, I would venture to guess they didn't mean to have a casino in The Dome. I do think that the addition of beds for another 400 passengers will dirty the atmosphere on board - one of the great things about Regal Princess is the low passenger density. 400 more will ruin that. I'm not really sure what the problem or complaint is, as we were all talking about a Princess related topic. Regarding this - there are people who know exactly what the ongoing issue is - including this poster. Those who are confused or don't understand, don't worry - you're actually better off. sackman Posted June 28, 2007 #17 Share Posted June 28, 2007 My wife and I took our honeymoon on the Regal Princess in 1994. It was her first cruise ever. When the bus pulled up to the ship it was the first time she had ever seen something so big (medium sized by today's standards). She began to cry - in a good way. I have the fondest memories of that ship and that particular trip. The Regal will be missed, but I'm sure she'll continue to provide a terrific experience to her passengers for many years to come. Happy5804 Posted June 29, 2007 #18 Share Posted June 29, 2007 What does it matter if the information is current or not? This is supposed to be a board where people can share their ideas in a mature fashion and we can agree and /or disagree, but why the semantics all of a sudden? Yes, I know the Regal is leaving the fleet. Never having sailed on her, I will not miss her. But having sailed on the Golden, I would not miss her either if she left the fleet tomorrow. Did I have a good time on board? Yes. Was it the be-all end-all cruise experience for me? It was so-so. I am not here to "bash" Princess, especially since I've booked another cruise for the near future, but give it a rest people. Just because a lot of you have umpteen-thousand postings does not make you official Princess experts. You obviously do have more Princess experiences, but your arrogance shines through and serves as a turnoff to us peons who can only afford to cruise rarely. Why don't those of you with so much Princess experience try to represent the Princess cruiseline in an ambassador-like capacity instead of belittling others and hurtling insults at others. The term "pack of dogs" comes to mind.

And the deck parties they had up there on Caribbean night. They were a blast! I still have a sequined skirt & top that I bought in the gift shop---they always had great sales on the last day! :)
SeaDog-46 Posted June 29, 2007 #20 Share Posted June 29, 2007 Hi - AlainBob The powers that be have now decided to retain the all white hull when Regal Princess changes to Pacific Dawn in October - as per the official site. I know it is a long flight from the west coast to Australia but there are airlines in New Zealand, Tahiti & Fiji that have flights from US to Australia & the journey can be broken. Pacific Dawn cruises from Sydney to places not usually serviced by Princess. I am booked on the Pearls of Tahiti voyage next June - 28 days to 14 island ports in the South Pacific. It has been fully booked since February but Sun Princess is doing the same later in 2008. Cheers from downunder.

Cheers from downunder. That sounds like a heavenly cruise!! 28 days in the South Pacific----how wonderful! I visited your lovely country back in 87 for the America's Cup races and loved it. We spent 4 days in Sydney before going to the races in Perth. 4 days were not enough and I would love to go back and spend a week, or so there. I remember flying on Air New Zealand and having a layover in Honolulu. And I remember it being a very long and boring flight!!
NSWP Posted June 29, 2007 #22 Share Posted June 29, 2007 Aaah, good to see some nice discussion about Regal P and Pacific Dawn, by the way what happened to COIRANS' posts that started WW3 ? Seadog46, yes, I read PD will retain the white colour as RP has, save on re paint that way.! Cheers:cool:
Catnip Posted June 29, 2007 #23 Share Posted June 29, 2007 Don't worry, you are not missing anything. One of Princess' biggest fans came on the thread with nothing to add to it except to say that since I hadn't cruised in 3 years on Princess that I should even be in this discussion! No matter that I've been on appx 7 Princess cruises before.......... Anyways ,looks like he's gone! Now we can get back to talking about PD/RP!! My favorite cruise on her was a 10-day Panama Canal. We had the most fun and still keep in touch with some of the folsk we met on that cruise.
Host Caroline Posted June 29, 2007 #24 Share Posted June 29, 2007  ROFL>> I haven't even been on this thread although I'm getting a ton of emails from people that were so apparently it "was" pretty interesting....I'm getting ready for a big trial at work and haven't had time to go "cruising" on the boards this week. As an FYI, I could care less how often people have/have not cruised on Princess or any other line.. if they have a comment to make, make it. It's just insane that it can get so absolutely nasty.. geez... have civil discussions gone the way of the 25 cent beer? We talk cruising out the wahzoo with our cruisin' buddies here in NC over "tropical reminder drinks" and daily while we are cruising together but no one ever gets crazy over it... we just agree to disagree and cruise on different cruise lines all the time to keep everyone happy... Life is just too short.... Oh, and if ya think there are "cheerleaders" here you haven't read some of the other cruise lines boards on CC... they make Princess board look like the JV squad! ...and I love the "old" Regal/Crown Princess even tho the dome did somewhat resemble from certain angles the shape of my American Foxhound dog's head when he was layin' flat on the floor tummy-down sound asleep.. now the dome and the dog are going to be gone:(

I haven't been on a ship yet that compared to what we had there. We have found that we compare all of our new cruises with that one. Some better in some ways, some worse, but none as special.
