rob6465 Posted September 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2007 My wife and I just returned from our 1st cruise on the Conquest that sailed 9/16-9/23. Before we left there were debates on how much I would spend, some critics said I can get by with $600 and some said that I would spend $1,000 plus. My wife and I are not big drinkers. We purchased an alcohol certificate for $19.50 and probablt purchased 2 extra drinks. We did shopped in Jamaica, did the stingrays/turtle farm tour in caymans and the Twister/Passion island tour in Mexico. We did some shopping onboard and my wife gambled in the casino and broke even. Our final bill on our sign & sail card was $658 and we felt like we did everything. Our final invoice was 1 page compared to some that were 10+ pages. I guess each person is different and there are some people that spent less than us and somde that spent more than us. Our next cruise will be a 5 day cruise since I prefer less days at sea. LOVED THE CRUISE !

You know on my 2 cruises I usually put about $500 on my S&S card (I pay with cash) and with the tours and maybe a coffee from the special coffee counter, I usually come back with change. I also am not a big drinker. Maybe 1 drink the entire cruise. And my final invoice is usually 75% of the page long.
Tatka Posted September 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2007 On my last RCCL cruise our final bill was around $150 (including 5 bottles of vodka, 2 models of Explorer for ebay and souveneers). We did have about $200 SBC from our RCCL card.
pe4all Posted September 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2007 How was the Twister/Pasion Island excursion? We will be sailing the Freedom this December, and I just signed up on line for it? Was it worth it? I can still switch. Thanks in advance.
rob6465 Posted September 26, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted September 26, 2007 DO NOT CHANGE THAT EXCURSION ! My wife was the one that wanted that one since she is into thrill rides and i have to admit...it was GREAT. Now you do need to dress right because you are going to get SOAKED, i mean like going into the water at the beach and the ride will make about 7-8 360 degree turns. My wife was smart and wore her swimsuit and I did not. About passion island ? It was a very nice beach and clean water but the prices in the huts for souveniers was expensive, so avoid that. They offered us a buffet w/ drinks for extra $30 or $20 without drinks. The sodas and tap water is included in twister tour but not bottled water. I would've preferred just doing the Twister and I would've been good.
rob6465 Posted September 26, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted September 26, 2007 pe4all ? I just noticed that you are from Long Island. I grew up in NYC(Manhattan) and graduated from SUNY at Farmingdale, moved to Houston in 2000. Twister reminds me of SOUTH STREET Seaport speed boat(Shark ?) but ALOT faster(40knots) and wetter. pe4all Posted September 26, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Thanks so much for the quick replies. We love thrill rides, and with 2 teens to "entertain", this seems right up our alley. We were thinking of going to Paradise Beach on our own, but went to the Boatyard in Barbados - seems to be very similar to P.B., and we heard P.B. is pretty crowded - especially with a few ships in port, which is what is happening now that Cosat Maya is closed down for a while. We will keep the Twister - wanted a less crowded beach (isla pasion) anyway. We are from Western Nassau County (Williston Park) to be exact. SUNY Farmingdale is about 20 minutes away with no traffic (LOL) on the LIE!! Have never been to your neck of the woods - would love to visit "the south" someday! (after we finish all the cruises on my to-do list)
Ship Addict Posted September 26, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2007 rob -- first of all I notice that you are from Houston. Hey neighbor! Second, this Twister excursion you're talking about, that's on Cozumel right? It sounds like something me and DH would love, but the kids (9 and 15) aren't really that into thrill rides. I have a very hard time getting them on (age appropriate) roller coasters, going tubing at the lake, stuff like that. Do you think this would be too much for them? rob6465 Posted September 26, 2007 Author #12 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Ship Addict ? I don't know about the 9yr old, depends on what he/she likes. The 15yr old should be ok with it. I'm 1 person who hates roller coaters or thrill rides..wife loves it. Besides holding the rail too tight, i loved it. Bit of advise....have whole family put on water goggles and you'll enjoy it so much more. Everyone around you will be in envy. When returning from Passion island you get same thrill ride, so be prepared to get REALLY wet. Remember, boat is going 40knots or more !
rob6465 Posted September 26, 2007 Author #13 Share Posted September 26, 2007 At the Carnival website you can buy Bon Voyage gifts for yourself or for others. The bar credit is for 4 drinks and it's $19.50. The drinks on the ship can cost you $6-7, so you save $5-6. There is also a soft beverage gift fot $7.75 for 4 sodas. When you board the ship you can buy a soda card for unlimited sodas for $45(est). The cost of sodas on the ship is $1.75-2.00, so if you drink alot of soda...it's worth it. What my wife and I did was bring 2 cases of soda and we stuck it in fridge and had room steward fill our ice bucket every night. Also, be very careful with whatever is in your fridge when you enter cabin....it is not free.
ManyMore Posted September 26, 2007 #14 Share Posted September 26, 2007 I can't get past the less days at sea comment.... ummmm what! You want a shorter cruise??? Ok get the cruise police out!
jimbug Posted September 26, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Here's one for you...my last bill on my 7-day Adventure of the Seas (RCCL) cruise was $92. Yep, $92! That total was my automatic tips ($68.50?) and a t-shirt I bought in the gift store. We drank on the islands and did all independent shore excursions. My cruise mate did, in fact, have a much larger bill...she owed me a couple of drinks/taxi fare and such from when we were out and about, so it's not like I didn't drink on the ship at all! :)
crusinmama06 Posted September 26, 2007 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Sounds like you did everything you wanted to do and had a great time. I would like to hear more about the twister excursion too. I've never heard of that one. The highest bill we've ever had was $1,900 on Disney but it was due to a medical emergency. I don't suggest having one of those on a cruiseship. ;)
rob6465 Posted September 26, 2007 Author #17 Share Posted September 26, 2007 manymore ? I guess it just felt like we were very excited to get to a port by the 3rd at sea that I would prefer same 7 days but more ports than days at sea.
Lover Of H2O Posted September 26, 2007 #18 Share Posted September 26, 2007 I don't suggest having one of those on a cruiseship. ;) Crusinmama, I'll take that under advisement!;) BTW, what happened?? (Only if that's not too nosey.)
crusinmama06 Posted September 26, 2007 #19 Share Posted September 26, 2007 BTW, what happened?? (Only if that's not too nosey.) Not nosey at all (believe me some are probably sick of seeing me post about it ;) ) My youngest caught some virus on the Disney Magic. She stopped breathing, turned blue, seized for 40 minutes, had to be intebated and medically evacuated to Port Canaveral Medical Center. She's fine now. She's the precocious 3 year old in my signature. :D
