We NEVER received our luggage on Infinity 14 night Panama Canal, 10.28.07

I realise I am flogging a dead horse, but I still feel that we the public and the poster who suffered the loss of the luggage are not being told the truth by Celebrity.

So again I feel that the cruise line should answer the following questions.

1/ Who was the rep on board the bus?

2/ Which company employed her?

3/ Ditto for the driver

4/ What did these so called "sub contracters " do after they dropped off the passengers?

5/ If it can be proved that they handed the luggage over to the cruise line, then clearly the cruise line must accept the fact that they are employing a thief or thieves. so they should provide adequate compensation not hide behind "sub contractors" or phases like "everyone did their jobs".

My own personal opinion is that after dropping off the only passengers, the rep and the driver conspired together to steal the luggage.

I believe that the law is that if you get paid for delivering a service (in this case transportation and delivery of luggage TO THE SHIP) you must pay compensation to the VALUE of the item if you fail to fulfil the terms of the transaction? The passenger paid Celebrity for this service therefore Celebrity is responsible for fulfilling the terms of the transaction.

I could not agee more!!!!!!!!!!!

In regards to the comments made by hermang,I don't know that the bags were handed off to the porters. One of my points is that if Celebrity wants to provide transfers. charge me for the transfers, and send a bus and escort to pick my wife and I up, and transport our luggage to the pier, then they should assume responsibility for the luggage. I know, they can hide behind the cruise ticket contract (legal document),but is that any way to treat your customers. I'm hoping our situation is not the norm, if it is, then maybe the whole process of checking luggage and providing transfers should be re-evaluated. They sent the bus and escort, they took my luggage, and I have not seen it since. If they don't want to be responsible, then don't touch my (*&^$#% luggage and ruin my (*^^$@^& vacation.

I hope you will keep us updated. I'm not sure that Celebrity can hide behind the contract legally. There is a lot of litigation/discussion in legal circles regarding the implied warranty of merchantability (I think that's the theory that you referenced) as applied to services. As you said, this is just not right and is no way for Celebrity to be treating their "customers." A lot of good tips and information has been given to you on the back end that may help others, but I'm still hoping that this will somehow be resolved to your satisfaction, and I agree with everything that you've written. Good luck.

As you can imagine, it was a long process and it's a long story. Since the RAYS have a little baseball game tonight (who knew), I'll keep it short. Between future cruise certificates, and lost luggage reimbursement, we came out in good shape. It wasn't easy, and we had to take advantage of all options available to us. We just try to seperate the luggage B.S. experience on Infinity from all of our other experiences on Horizon, Zenith, Century, and Millie. In fact, every other part of the Infinity cruise was great, especially our fellow passengers ( cue violins ).

Hopefully, we will meet on another cruise, share a bottle of red, and I'll fill you in on all the details.

HAM:

Glad to hear thing worked out as best as possible in the circumstances.

We are also sailing from San Diego (on Mercury) in January and will be leaving from the Coronado Island Marriott in the morning of the cruise. We will probably take the Marriott shuttle to the cruise terminal with our luggage (pre-tagged!). Without ever having been to the San Diego cruise terminal before, do you have any advice on what to do with our luggage when we get there? Should we keep it with us through the check-in process or, since it is pre-tagged, do we give it to someone when we get off the shuttle who will (hopefully!!) get it on the ship?

(better luck to the Rays tonight)

I think I've found the perfect solution to all of this. I dragged my own suitcase onboard and back at the end of the cruise. Unless you have really large suitcases, this is perfectly feasable, and Celebrity said nothing that we couldn't. As long as it fit in the scanner onboard all was well.

As best I remember George's problem it began when he was put on one bus and his luggage was put on a different bus at his hotel. The bags were NEVER seen again (to this day no one can find them) I would suggest you insist on being on the bus with your luggage. Watch it being loaded and wait and watch it being unloaded. You might consider taking extra luggage insurance through Celebrity.

We have gone out of San Diego twice and never had a problem but......

Ever since I read this story last year I make sure I make sure I check the tag they put on my luggage at the airport, I watch them put it on the carousel, and I personally make sure my luggage is put into the hands of a porter with a tip.

About 10 years ago my parents departed San Diego on the Radisson Seven Seas for a Panama Canal cruise. They gave their luggage to the porters at the pier and never saw it again. The CL told them that their luggage had been stolen from the pier and had been an ongoing problem in San Diego. When they got to the first stop they were informed that the empty suit case had been found in a port trash can. However Radisson gave my parents a $700 on board credit and $400 cash to buy clothes onshore. Sounds like San Diego has a security problem.

Our luggage was on the same bus as my wife and I. Celebrity sent the bus, with a Celebrity rep, to the Embassy Suites, which is approx. 5 blocks from the pier, to pick us up at noon the day of sailing. I could see the ship from my room.

My advice is the same as scottbee, if possible, bring your luggage on board yourself.
