mcgore83 Posted November 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2007 This is our first stop on our cruise next November. Anyone experienced not being able to tender to this port? I know Coca Cay is often missed. I am so looking forward to seeing this island (Dragon's breath, of course). All replies are appreciated. Could also use helpful hints. We sailed in April and had no problem tendering in Labadee. Enjoy it - great photo ops.
Apoggi Posted November 20, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 20, 2007 I'd have to say we made it about 80% of the time.
Aquahound Posted November 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2007 Ships going to Labadee use fixed mooring balls instead of anchoring. Plus, the mooring is in a cove instead of out in the open like Coco Cay. The tender ride is very short through sheltered waters. You are far lass likely to miss Labadee than Coco Cay. TinaB Posted November 20, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2007 Mark K - I was thinking the same thing. It was beautiful. We were looking forward to a relaxing beach day. We spent the day exploring the island, then showing the rest of our group what we found. We need to go again, just to enjoy the beach, the water and lunch. :)
Ronrocks! Posted November 20, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2007 We'll be there in December will the weather be warm?
Rare TPKeller Posted November 20, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 20, 2007 You can pull up my Cruise Map of Labadee, in which you can see the layout of the place and the cove that the ship anchors in. I'm still hoping someone with a GPS can send me the end point coordinates of the Zip Line, so I can add it in! :) Theron
Havana Daydreamin Posted November 21, 2007 #9 Share Posted November 21, 2007 I have had the pleasure of stopping at Labadee everytime it was scheduled. However, I DO MISS IT!:D
one9marine Posted November 21, 2007 #10 Share Posted November 21, 2007 you shouldn't have any problem. tenders are large.plenty of seats,so it goes fast. sheltered cove so unless there is a major storm you'll be fine. do go ashore,it's beautiful. Rare xpcdoojk Posted November 21, 2007 #11 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Labadee was our first ever cruise ship port of call on the Majesty of the seas in January of 1996. The weather was windy and rainy with a temperature of about 60. We skipped it and continued on to Jamaica. Of course, we were behind schedule due to a snow storm on sailaway day, so I have never been to Labadee. jc
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted November 21, 2007 #12 Share Posted November 21, 2007 We missed the Labadee stop a few years ago because of political unrest in Haiti. The ship did not even try to stop. I think we were given a very small refund for the missed port. We were given an extra day at sea instead of substituting another port.

ChristieNJ Posted November 21, 2007 #15 Share Posted November 21, 2007 We just missed Labadee a couple weeks ago because of Hurricane Noel. BOOO!!! I've been there before and was so looking forward to it. But, oh well! :) There's always next time. :D
Jimmers Posted November 21, 2007 #16 Share Posted November 21, 2007 I miss Labadee every day. It's going to be a long winter but at least I can look at in on my screensaver. Jimmers:)
cruiserbryce Posted November 21, 2007 #17 Share Posted November 21, 2007 I miss it everyday so true...I think Labadee is less impacted by the seas since the ships parks in more of a cove, as opposed to a port like Grand Cayman that gets skipped from time to time b/c of rough seas...its out in the open, so the affect will be greater
igot2cruz Posted November 21, 2007 #18 Share Posted November 21, 2007 A December cruise on Voyager.......Cruised to Labadee, high winds and the Captain felt it was too risky to attempt to tender.

mcgore83 Posted November 21, 2007 Author #20 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Thanks for the replies. I really hope we get to stop. For those of you who missed Labadee and continued to Jamica, did you stay overnight? If so, what did you do? Thanks in advance, you guys are great! CruisingCaraCat Posted November 21, 2007 #21 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Can't remember how many times we went to Labadee over the years but it must be at least a dozen - never had to skip it due to weather. Missed Coco twice so far in a boatload of sailings. As has been stated we did bypass Labadee a couple of times due to political problems. That being said it is often the highlight of the cruise for me - the perfect place to kick back and relax - listen to waves on the beach - have a cold something in your hand - enjoy the sun and when you get a little warm move under a tree. Enjoy!
BobBeaSea Posted November 22, 2007 #22 Share Posted November 22, 2007 We missed it in the early 90's...political troubles. It's a nice beach day, great for stretching your legs etc. :)

We missed Labadee and Dominican Republic on our 10/26/07 due to Noel but we went to St. Maartin instead which we were very happy about! :D
