Rare Lois R Posted January 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Working on Galaxy prior to the drydock in April? All the upcoming cruises are very port intenstive....10 and 11 nighters with 6-7 ports. I was wondering if they will be putting in new carpets, etc since she is docked almost every day. I will be sailing her in March (by the way, it is nice to see some positive reviews from recent returnees:) ). Just curious if they start some of it ahead of time? I hope all is well. Based on reports from previous Drydocks, I would say there is a decent chance some of the work will start in advance. While I may be wrong, I am pretty sure I have read a few posts that have said that work is ongoing on Galaxy. I am confident that whatever work will be done, if any, should not be any sort of major inconvenience. Have a wonderful time on Galaxy !
Rare Lois R Posted January 24, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Hi Andy, thanks for the reply:) It would have to be something really major for me not to have a good time. ;) As long as the Martini Bar and Cova are available I will be just fine:D I was really just curious more than anything else. I have to admit though, I am quite pleased with the newest reviews. I was get quite antsy reading some of the past ones....but I ought to know by now, there are so many folks on the same sailing and every one of them may have a different experience! Hope you and your family are doing well....how is Mom? I see you are sailing next month too~hope you have a wonderful time as well:)
excitedofharpenden Posted January 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Lois, when I was on Galaxy in 2003 we were on the cruise just before a dry dock and they were loading carpets and sundries on the morning we disembarked. Aside from the usual maintenance, I can't see them doing anything more prior to this dry dock as they will be able to complete their tasks much more easily without the passengers getting in their way! As a side note, prior to both cruises on Galaxy in 2003 and 2004 I had read all sorts of comments about her being worn, tired, in need of an overhaul and the like. We thought she was just fine and the crew on her were wonderful and most of the large Cruise Critic group felt the same way. Yes, some of the windows were fogged in the Stratosphere lounge even back then. I hardly went in there during the day. I found it a bit of a barn of a room to be honest. I preferred to be outside, so it was a non-issue. The rest of the ship was clean, warm and welcoming. Enjoy:) Phil
Rare Lois R Posted January 24, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted January 24, 2008 Hi Phil:) Thanks for the post. It is appreciated. I am all the way up on the Sky Deck. Still have my usual inside cabin but I have friends who stayed in this same cabin and they loved it:D It is 1242 so I am near those suites everyone talks about. Maybe I will be able to see the inside of one. One of the gals on my roll call has one hopefully I will be able to take a peek;) I have no doubt I will have a great time~since she is the sister ship of Mercury I know she will be just fine:)
bububr Posted January 25, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2008 From what I can see they have the schedule blocked out for about 2 1/2 weeks..hopefully thats a good sign. I also remember reading in a review that new carpeting was recently put down in Michaels club....a good sign! Hope alls well!! Have you heard from Mario yet?
