Has the Royal Princess been refurbished?

We are planning a cruise on the RP in august. I just read the professional review and they said the regular and balcony cabin furnishings (not suites) are the original R ship stuff......pretty old and tattered. We like the itinerary and the smalled ships. We prefer open seating but can make do with assigned dinner seating

 

We have sailed on Azamara (beautifully refurbished R ship) and the old R ships and the Tahitian princess in 2002 (just added to fleet)

 

Please some one relieve my anxieties that this is not a bad decsion. Anyone been on her in the last few months?

We were on the Royal in November. A few spots showed some wear. But all in all it was in good shape.

The Royal was refurbished, I believe, before it joined Princess. I thought the furnishings looked pretty good.

As far as refurbishment goes, a casino and some shops were added, and some furniture, bedding, hardware, paint and carpets around the ship were redone or replaced, but that was about it. Azamara completely gutted its R ships--Princess didn't.

Be that as it may, when we sailed on the Royal last year, there was very little wear and tear showing, the ship was beautiful, and the cruise was our favorite out of 10 so far. We thought the CC review was MUCH too harsh, bottom-line--nothing anywhere was "old and tattered."

We were on her for 24 days in Nov/Dec and thought that she was in great shape...and thoroughly enjoyed being on board.

Bedding is newer -- duvets and great pillows. I found the bed very comfortable (particularly since I had an intestinal "something" and wound up in bed for several days.)

I sailed on the Azamara Quest last year and on the same ship when it belonged to Renaissance. I can testify that Azamara DID NOT gut their ships during the refurbishing process last year. They did remove the suite cabins on deck 8 and replace them. Soft goods were replaced like curtains, bedding, etc. New pool deck chairs were a pleasant addition as well as new flat screen cabin tvs. But everything else is the same - nice wood paneling and beautiful main staircase.
