News- Victory !!!! RCCL Recalls Fuel Surcharge !!!!

Recommended Posts

but it is still in place for those who bought after november 16th? I booked my cruise in January. so I will still get charged. that is stupid and completely unfair.

No it's not. You had reason to know about the surcharge when you booked. The refund is for those who had already booked and got slapped with an extra fee.

THANK YOU, Kidless. I know you were one of the original "complainers" and took a huge amount of abuse for standing up for your principles.Everyone getting a OBC or refund should thank this lady !!!!!!!!

Thank you!!! You and several others had tons of good information that took time to research. All of us that stood on principle and sent out emails to various places should feel good about our efforts today. Many of us took abuse but continued working towards getting answers. :D

Although my bruises have healed nicely!!! LOL

Congratulations kidless, you really did take a lot of font-based abuse from the griefers (and the ad hominemers). Thank you for persisting.

What you accomplished was getting refunds for bookings prior to the announcement. There will still be surcharges going forward for bookings from Nov 16th and on. This does not do away with them. Oil today is currently over 109.00 bbl this morning, with no end in sight. One thing the cruise lines managed to do , although at a cost of over 20mil, was to have the ability to collect surcharges now. To the cruise lines in the end, a small price to pay. Don't be surprised if the surcharges go to $10 sometime later this year, and it can now be done on a moments notice, even if you are booked. For those already booked, if it happens, you can't say anything about the disclosure. It will be pay, or cancel.

Enjoy your victory.

Your right on that Curley...

The difference now I believe is that with the turn in the economy, the possible impending gloom and the times I think it will be easier for people to just "cancel", so I think the cruise lines are going to be a bit over a barrel for now... With that I would imagine they will find that playing hard ball with their customers might prove a bit taunting...

Time will only tell...

All right....I'll chirp in on another "useless fuel surcharge thread". How many times have I told you people that letting some public elected official look into this is useless or whatever. You will never learn. Keep wasting your time. You whiners are all the same. I can't believe you can't afford another $5 a day.......;)

I miss those days.........

It looks as if the majority on this thread are in favor of RCCL doing this and not making fun or making disparging remarks concerning others, unlike the previous thread. This thread also reminds me of those who said they were at Woodstock. There was app. 500k people at the festival in 1969, but if you poll people now, over 5 million say they were there. Most likely the silent majority joining this thread.

Based on what I've read on this thread, and since I don't have 5K or 10k posts like some "experts" here, I'll leave it to those "experts" to decide who is the troll on this thread. Seems even on an anonymous board, you can still read immaturity.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Voluntarily Revises Fuel Supplement

Royal Caribbean will eliminate the fuel supplement for any guests who had a booking made prior to November 16. Guests booked before November 16 who paid the fuel supplement and have taken their cruise will receive a refund through the form of payment used to purchase their sailing. Guests booked before November 16 who paid the fuel supplement and have not taken their cruise will receive their refund as an onboard credit during their sailing.

All bookings before Nov. 16th

So this means If you have gone you get a credit. If you haven't gone but have paid in full you get an on board credit. If you booked and you haven't paid in full it will be removed? I have clients in all of these catagories!

So this means:

If you have gone you get: a refund.

If you haven't gone but have paid in full you get: an on board credit.

If you booked and you haven't paid in full it will be removed?

It should be; they removed mine.

Yea, Mike you are absolutely right. Nobody in their right mind cares about this "useless"subject anyway. The thread should be deleted. It is only $5.00 per day and if you can't afford that, you should not be crusing anyway.I am absolutely sure most folks will return the refund and refuse the onboard credit---it is only one drink per day! They were glad to pay it so as to keep the cruise lines from cutting quality.

Mike, you were one of a very few who did care and you made a difference.Congratulations and well done,

Don't know if I made a difference. I just put my nickel in with the AG like many others did. What I did take issue with, is those supposed CC family members on that thread that felt it necessary to make popularity points with disparaging remarks about others on that old thread. They also felt the need to do it on other threads where they knew they wouldn't get a response. My position has always been, if it is a topic you don't care about, there should be no need to ridicule others who do care about it.

Congratulations to everyone who did voice their concerns and I would echo to send a thank you to the AG office. Quite frankly, even though I thought RCI was on thin ice, I didn't expect resolution so quickly.

By the way, I guess those expecting a $12 coupon will be dissapointed. ;)

Also, coincidently I did a parody on this exact resolution a week or so ago that some folks got upset about and the thread was pulled. Looking back, it was pretty prophetic. ;)

Where are all the folks who were putting us down? They really were involved when they were calling us "whiners" or "b--ch and moaners". Also telling us all the money recovered would go to "slip-and-fall" lawyers and we would not ever recover a dime - Geesh! All we were arguing for was fairness and for RCI to observe common ethical business principles. All it took was a letter to the Florida AG, patience and perseverance.

Exactly, where are all of those folks now? I do hope that since they considered the amount of money to be so insignificant that they will be vountarily turning their rebates back over to RCI.

I was brought up to stand up for what I believe in. Sometimes things will go your way and sometimes not. Was is important is that you take a stand. What others think of you for taking that stand makes little difference.

Well said, Ocean Boy. I thank you for "taking a stand".

With all the celebrating, let's stop and think about what all of you REALLY accomplished in order to get your fuel surcharge back.

RCL negotiated itself out of a provision in the agreement with the Florida AG's office that required it to only impose charges related to government fees and taxes. RCL is now free to slap any additional charge or fee on us -- just so long as they tell us first.

I'm not begrudging those of you who booked early getting a refund, even though it means I'm paying something someone else on the same cruise is not, so no flames please, especially since for me on my upcoming 3-day, I'm only paying $30.

I'm simply pointing out that sometimes there are unintended consequences. Thank about that the next time RCL or any of the other cruise lines come up with another fee they feel they need to impose.

Happy Cruising.

Well, I for one think it is a great accomplishment...as it was before they were slapping fee's on us with out telling us up front. Now they have to disclose it before I book my cruise...therefore we can choose to accept whatever the fee is or not!!! So keep that champagne flowing!!! :D

What are the unintended consequences? They were doing it anyway. What this agreement did was say you can not do such a thing without disclosing it up front. That's a good thing.

Actually, RCI changed the contract on November 16th and was free to do that since then and many of us said so. The issue has always been doing it retroactively. I, as well as some others, have pointed out that the new RCI contract, as well as other cruiselines, is so open ended now, you may never know what your final price will be until you leave the ship, again based on the wording. However, since this is known upfront, folks can choose to cruise with such a lopsided contract written against them or not.

Again, the issue that so many refused to understand, was doing it retroactively. Make your choice and spin the wheel. Yes, RCI is free to do what they want with you, now that they have disclosed it in their contract. As with anything, buyer beware.

Edit to add due to the previous two posts written at the same time as this one.....great minds think alike. ;)

I agree. The issue for me was having a "new" , open ended, unilateral cruise contract shoved down my throat after the fact.Of course, the contract is now there for all to read in black and white. If you dont agree to it or don't like the product--Don't buy it !

1 Would you buy a cruise where you do not learn the final price until you debark the ship ? Not me, I refused the new contract and cancelled.

2 Would you finance a car where you did not know the interest rate, monthly payment , or term of the loan? Not me.

3 Would you buy a home where you did not know the interest rate, monthly payment today, next year, and the year after? Alot of folks did and I am afraid that every United States taxpayer will end up paying for that one!

I believe any OBC left at the end of the cruise is refunded back to the pax but I've never had any left at the end. If you are concerned about this just go to the casino and get a cash advance to use up what is left of your OBC.

Thanks for the reply. Do they charge anything for a cash advance?
