PVDCruiser Posted June 26, 2012 #2226 Share Posted June 26, 2012 I have a couple of questions regarding food since I finally just got my husband to discuss the dining and he nearly flipped when I talked about taking khakis and dress shoes for the bare minimum of formal dress. Therefore, it looks like Windjammer for evening meals for us. I was thinking that the WJ served the same thing as the main dining room, is that correct? Also, in the Jade, they change cuisines-do they have a Vietnam night and do they serve pho? Also, is there bubble tea? Is there bubble tea in St Thomas maybe? I am used to vacationing in California and just like it every once in awhile. I can get it in Kansas City, but it is a vacation drink for me. Umm, another food question and I'll quit-is there deep dish pizza at Sorrento's? They closed the closest Pizzaria Uno and I really miss that. Thanks so much for any help! The other ones I can't answer confidently....but Sorrento's is not deep dish. We will be going on the FOS next July --- I am only familiar with the Radiance Class. Can someone tell me or direct me to a place where I can find out what additional food venues have a cost associated with them. Thanks in advance for your kindness. Karen The venues that have an extra cover charge (IIRC) are Chops, Portofino, and Johnny Rockets.

DrD Posted June 26, 2012 #2228 Share Posted June 26, 2012 Ice cream at Ben and Jerry's = cost Cupcake place = cost promenade cafe = included (small sandwiches, desserts etc. Specialty coffees = cost) Sorrentino's (pizza, salads, desserts etc) = included Tapas at Vintage = included, when you buy wine

What about the places where I saw ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, small sandwiches, etc? Ben & Jerry's is extra, they charge you about what a land based Ben & Jerry's does. The cupcakes are around $3 each. Apparently the Seattle's Best or Starbucks or whatever charges you for the specialty coffees and teas but around the back of the coffee shop is another self serve coffee shop with complimentary coffee, tea, cocoa. The cookies and pastries are also complimentary and I imagine the sandwiches are too.
PVDCruiser Posted June 26, 2012 #2230 Share Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) What about the places where I saw ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, small sandwiches, etc? I apologize...I was just thinking of specialty dining. You can get free soft serve on the pool deck and as a dessert in the MDR. Ben + Jerry's is extra but I don't know the exact price. Cupcakes are also extra. Cookies and small sandwiches at Cafe Promenade is complimentary, though fancier coffee beverages are extra. The food at Sorrento's is also complimentary. I'm not sure, I've not been on on yet but have learned alot from boards. A couple of posters have talked about it, most recently: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=34242221
B-52 Posted July 8, 2012 #2234 Share Posted July 8, 2012 (edited) Booked the Freedom for 2013. First time on a Freedom Class ship. We have been on the Explorer 3 times, and the Mariner twice. Voyager Class' Know the decks and my way around inside-out. Looking at the deck Plans of a Freedom class, they don't seem all that different. All the main attractions are in the same locations. Decks appear to be the same, granted there are differences like the flow rider, etc.,, Seems the Freedom class is a bigger Voyager? Am I correct? You are correct, think voyager on steroids.:D We didn't have any problem finding our way around in May. We too have sailed on the Voyager class several times. Freedom also has touch screens that will help navigate around the ship too. They are located near the staircases.
SailingCpl Posted July 13, 2012 #2236 Share Posted July 13, 2012 Anyone sailing solo on this cruise?
Daghis Posted July 13, 2012 #2237 Share Posted July 13, 2012 You didn't mention which cruise, other than presumably being on the Freedom of the Seas. If you're talking about a particular sailing, I recommend that you visit the Freedom of the Seas Roll Calls forum to find others who are on that sailing. Or, perhaps you're asking for people's experiences who have sailed solo on the Freedom of the Seas in the past. In which case, I'd have to bow out as I've not sailed solo myself. dominosrx Posted July 13, 2012 #2238 Share Posted July 13, 2012 Just curious to see if anyone knows when the casino on FOS is open on the last sea day for the western sailings? I couldn't find a current compass on that sailing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Artemis Posted July 13, 2012 #2239 Share Posted July 13, 2012 ^ domino, on the final Saturday at sea on the W Carib itinerary, the slots open at 9a, tables at noon. My Compass (from the June 24-July 1 voyage) also says from noon on, there were a bunch of casino events, e.g., Royal Poker Tour, Slot Tournament, Blackjack Tournament...and get this...$3 Madness on the Tables from 1-4p! :D Here's a link to my review. I PDF'd and published a copy of the weekly Planner for the W Carib itinerary, which is sort of a condensed version of all the Compasses. You can follow the link in the review to access and download it if you like! You are going to have a blast on Freedom :)--it was one of the happiest cruises we've ever taken! Yes, but there is one more deck of cabins before the pool deck. I believe on the Voyager class that deck 9 is under the pool deck where that is deck 10 on the Freedom class. The layouts are very similar so you will have some familiarity.

Italy52 Posted July 19, 2012 #2245 Share Posted July 19, 2012 Not sure if this is the proper place to post --- please redirect me if I have misposted. We will be on the FOS next July for the Western Caribbean itinerary. It has been many years since we have been to the Caribbean and not sure about departure/flight times. I am planning on using the luggage valet service. Can we self-disembark if we use the luggage valet service? If so, what time does self-disembark normally begin? Also, what time do you suggest we make our Delta flights for out of MCO? Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

lovetotravel700001 Posted July 23, 2012 #2248 Share Posted July 23, 2012 THANK YOU so much, it is very kind of you to pass this information along. The information that she posted is what they give you but here is what happened yesterday. We got up at 6am and showered and dressed and were ready to go with our carryons-the luggage was long gone without us. At 6:45 we walked out of our cabin and by 8 am we were in the rental car heading out of Cocoa Beach. The luggage valet program is a godsend if you are in a hurry, but keep in mind there were just 2 of us and we had just a tiny bit of waiting around and no hitches. I would not book a flight before noon if you are renting a car. Maybe 11 if you have a limo and they totally understand you have a flight to catch. I am not going to go into massive detail here, but just ask if you have a question about it.

GASPARTY Posted July 24, 2012 #2250 Share Posted July 24, 2012 We return from the eastern Caribbean when you leave out. Last year on carnival we did the western Caribbean, while in roatan we went to a booth that had ex-pats they told us to get a cab and go the pink hotel. AWESOME! Nice staff, nice br, beautiful infinity pool, clean changing rooms, great views, nice views, and snorkeling. Name of pink hotel is villa natale. Hopefully it is still open, the owner was getting some financing lined up..
