kydewlady Posted April 14, 2008 #52 Share Posted April 14, 2008 When my husband and myself cruised last year on the Legend, we respected the non smokers and went to the smokers areas in the casino or out on the decks. We do not smoke in our house at home so it was not a problem for us.
kujobie Posted April 14, 2008 #53 Share Posted April 14, 2008 You are free to do that as long as you don't "whine" when Carnival follows RCCL, because smokers did not follow the rules. What rules?

boaterette Posted April 15, 2008 #55 Share Posted April 15, 2008 I think a smoke-free ship from a California port might work, lots of folks now drive to their closest port and the percent of smokers in California is alot lower than most other states. It just didn't work out of Miami. The Paradise once again tried once again with the smoke issue. They went nonsmoking in the casino. It didn't last either. I guess nonsmokers just don't spend enough. And this was just last year when it ws sailing from California. I know I sailed on the Monarch while Carnival was doing this trial. Now that they went back to smoking I will sail on it again. ellenmb Posted April 15, 2008 #56 Share Posted April 15, 2008 I booked on the Valor and my TA told me that carnivals rooms are smoke free.I am hearing differant here on this board. Are they smoke free or not???? I requested a smoke free room and she told me they all were.?? Just want to make sure there are no surprises when we get there.Thesawch Carnival is not smoke free and to the best of my knowledge no rooms are "smoke free"; I have been on two cruises though and they do a great job of cleaning: if you have any issues tell your cabin steward and they can usually take care of anything (ie even smoke smell in room)
bobsfamily Posted April 16, 2008 #57 Share Posted April 16, 2008 One quick correction. The Paradise NEVER lost money. I repeat, the Paradise made money. It just did not make ENOUGH money....running below the corporate MARS. The problem was that the Paradise was difficult to fill up because all cruise lines depend on "groups" as their lifeblood....and even the smallest family reunion has at least one smoker. So, yes the Paradise did make money (enough to keep the ship open) just not enough to make the Carnival Board happy. No you are WRONG... if the ship did not make enough money to make the Carnival Board happy then it was not enough to keep the ship open... that's why they changed. IF the ship had made money to the satisfaction of the owners/stockholders it would still be open as non-smoking.

Ah, you must have been born in the late 80s or even later - smoking was once prevalent in every aspect of life: offices, commercial airplanes, malls, all sections of restaurants, everywhere. It got phased out starting in the 70s, but when I started my first real office job in 1991 they had just banned smoking in the office (and it was an employer rule, not a law yet). There are still smoking sections in restaurants in some states.

I am a retired RN, and I remember Drs smoking at the nurses station, patients smoking in their rooms, and sitting in a smoke filled room with the door closed and no ventilation getting report in the morning. This was during the 70s and very early 80s.
