Stepping it up~

You didn't ask me, but I'll butt in, anyway -- when we were invited to dine with the Captain, we got free cocktails before dinner and free wine with dinner. That was reason enough. ;)

Captain Flokos also turned out to be pretty cool, and our dinner companions were varied and interesting.

Leonid.

Why is it so interesting to dine with the crew?????

just asking.

Fred

I will but in also!!:D

We found Captain Rye very good conversationalist, very good sense of humour.

They are people just like everyone else so why not dine with them.

Unless you prefer eating alone you will meet all types of people from all walks of life the Captain & CD are just part of life at sea.

Don

I wish I could have enjoyed the free wine with dinner but one glass before dinner did me in!!;)

Those are good points. I"ve always tried to remember when having dinner with various members of the hotel staff or crew that for these people, this is their real life, and they enjoy connecting with passengers. When I feel that connection, I certainly dine with them--I've dined with entertainers, chefs, hotel staff and officers.

Thanks for the explanation about the noise, Jan.

I enjoyed socialising with the shop girls, sharing a taxi with some engineering crew-members and chatting with the Excec chef about the India chefs. I found these people fun and interesting. I declined a dinner in the GDR with the cruise director, I am pretty sure that I would have found it an evening of torture, and we had better things to do the next morning - seeing ports which is what we were there for. Some of the nicest poeple I met on the ship were crew, they just weren't necessarily senior crew.
