Morning folks,

As this will be our first cruise I was wondering what is an average room bill on a 14 night cruise, I wouldn't say we do things to excess but at the same time like to enjoy ourselves without having to count the pennies with each purchase.

Thanks,

Phil

You are going to get answers ranging from a couple hundred dollars, to a couple thousand. Each cruise is different and affected by the spending habits of each person as well as the ports. My wife and I have seen our bill for a 7 day cruise less than $500 but have seen it for a different 7 day cruise over $1,500. The differences were shore excursions, optional dining and a few things purchased on board. For your own purposes, best to try and estimate your avg daily expenses (drinks, spa treatments, etc) and then look at the shore excursions you might want. Good luck. You can cruise on the cheap and still have a great time, or you can open up your wallet and also have a great time.

Our bill (two people) for a 12 day Tahitian/Hawaii cruise was just under $4,000. We don't hold back at all with our cruise card! :D And again, that included excursions.

It really depends on you. We never order beer on our cruise but instead go for the fruitier drinks or champagne and when the sun goes down, the martinis come out! So your drinking habits, excursions and extras like the spa or specialty restaurants/balcony dinning really dictate the cost you'll pay.

We were on a 15 day cruise recently and our bill was about $1000. Some friends we met on board had taken a shore excursion that was $2400 each. I would guess their bill was $6000+++

Wow - what kind of excursion runs 2400USD each?

The number of shore excursions you take has the most influence on the final tab you will ring up. At a minimum I would budget $100 per person per day, but you could easily spend less or more, depending on how much you want to indulge yourselves.

There are some new private ones listed with Princess that are $1500-$2500.

I saw some in my upcoming Alaska excursions on the personalizer. Private fishing boat etc.

So does your drinking. I've seen people who paid more for their bar tab than they paid for their cruise.

We traveled with a couple on a 28 day sailing that were from Ireland. After the first week, and only a few ports involved, they checked their shipboard account. It had already hit the $4000 mark. OMG! Yes, they did drink quite a bit and shop onboard. But after a week with very few excursions, that amount even stopped me dead in my tracks, and them also. And to think, we still had three more weeks before we disembarked in Sydney.

Here are some of the things you can pay for onboard. I usually give myself a rough budget for each so I don't get sticker shock at the end.

Stateroom auto tips will be added to your account.

Bingo

Drinks

Internet

Special classes

Coffee card

Ice Cream card

Speciality Dining

Excursions

Casino

Onboard shopping

My onboard bill for my recent 31-day Sapphire Princess cruise came to about $1,500 after an onboard credit of $290. That's just under $60/day for one person. I bought the soda card, some jewelry onboard, T-shirts and a few other things, a drink every evening, one night in the steakhouse, some shore excursions (although I booked several of these independently) and, of course, the daily auto-tip. I do not do bingo, the art auctions or the casino.

I have had my tabs ranging from $500.00 up to $1,800.00 for a seven day cruise. (That does not include the casino, since I always brought cash separately for that.)

Good luck to you and enjoy your cruise.

Ours with auto-tip, some moderately priced excursions, a bottle of wine with dinner and a few incidental purchases in the shops runs about $800 +/- a week.

I usually budget $125 per day for both of us for Princess and that tends to be pretty close. Other cruise lines tend to be more per day since we don't have the free internet. So we would be about $875 per week as well.

On our 7 night cruise in January, we hit $1600 - this included drinks, excursions, and auto tips. No casino. One night Sterling's. Some minor pnboard purchases totally about $200 (liquor and tee shirts, etc). Another $200 for FCC.

On our 4 night cruise, we hit $1400 - drinks - excursions - diving - so a bit more expensive, and some minor onboard purchases.

So, as you see, - it does vary greatly with the type of activities you do.

There are just too many variables to tell someone else what to expect. Excursions, Casino charges(?), drinks, especially wine, internet, on board shopping......

Your own habits and your excursions can make it $50 a day pp or $300 + a day pp.

You can see from the varied replies that this is a tough one!

The answer depends on you and your budget. Other then the auto tip, everything else is pretty much discretionary ( some would say the auto tip is too, but for me, that is part of the bill and not optional.... just my opinion).

For seven days for a family of four we have ranged from 500 - 1000 dollars on the last three cruises. For our upcoming cruise, before we even board, we are up to $1000 because of excursions. I expect the final tab to be about $1500 by the time we check out.

Best advice, figure out your budget and plan your cruise to match it. You can have a wonderful time without excursions, spas and specialty dining... or a wonderful time with them :) All depends on you.

Have a wonderful vacation.

So as not to have a shock when I get the bill at the end, I usually get a copy of our account every second day and write what each item was on the bill, because I never remember at the end of the cruise what things are. I don't want any nasty surprises at the end. This also gives us the chance to pull back on our spending if its out of control.
