Shopping for a new camera and need advice/recommendations

Recommended Posts

I currently have a Nikon Coolpix 4600. I am looking for a camera that is easy to use and will be able to take good quality night time photos. So far I am considering the following:

Canon A720 IS

Canon SD850 IS

Canon SD870 IS

Panasonic FX100

Panasonic LZ10

Thoughts? Advice?

If you have any other recommendations feel free to offer them.

Thanks.

If you have read any of the similar posts, you might be expecting my vote to be for the SD870. I have an SD800 (prior model with same lens) and am a big fan. I spent 6 weeks agonizing over comparative reports and tests before deciding on it and having handled the 870 and see output from it, I have no reservations about recommending it.

Here is a gallery of photos taken pretty much exclusively with the SD800, some in pretty bad light. Image quality from the 870 would be the same.

Hope it helps. Choosing a camera these days is such a chore!;)

Dave I looked at the gallery you linked above - very nice. I notice you had some pretty long exposures 1/8, 1/5. Did you use a tripod or stand very still :) ?

No tripod...sniper mode!:D
