Could someone who has been on the Qm2 in the last few weeks tell me if the new smoking rules have been implemented in the commodore club and Golden lion pub yet.

I know they have always had a small smoking section and just wanted to know if this is still the case or not.

I am not trying to start a debate would just like to know please.

Many thanks

Kevin

I do hope they keep with a smoking section. Otherwise it seems so very unfair.

Have already asked cunard and they are not sure, that is why i wanted someone who has been on in the last few weeks only way we will get a true answer.

Will find out myself in a few weeks just wanted to know in advance.

I know the non smokers wont like this but it was nice to have a little corner in the pub and the commordore club.

How strange that Cunard would not know what is happening with their own ships! Although maybe not.:D Do let us know when you get back, as I would be interested in knowing as well, although I don't sail till November.

Will post on my return.

the smoking sections have got a lot smaller since 2004,Cunard told me before we went on the Queen Victoria mayden voyage that you could smoke in the Golden Lion, chart room ,commordore club and casino,it turned out you could only smoke in the casino , so i take what they say with a pinch of salt.

I was on board May 22 to 27 and there was smoking in the Lions Pub. I did not see anyone smoking in the Commodore (was there every day) but that doesn't mean it's not allowed.

Hi:

I was talking to Cunard just yesterday and raised the same point. They confirmed smoking was now banned in all public areas, as from what date I didn't ask.

I just got back Sunday from a transatlantic and there was smoking in the Commodore Club. There was smoking in the Golden Lion except at lunch. There was one non smoking night at the casino.

Wow, that's not good news for non-smokers or asthmatics. Besides, surely no-one wants their hair/clothes contaminated with smoke  ........I thought those days were long gone.

I too will take what Cunard says with a pinch of salt.

Well, I'm a non-smoker and am happy with smoking areas if I'm travelling with smoking friends.

It won't please the non-smoking Prima Donnas, but then until smoking is completely banned they won't be happy, and then presumably they will seek to ban some other pleasure - such as driving at a sensible speed on a motorway.

Lighten up about it. There is plenty of space to avoid smokers if you wish. Why spoil the trip for a smoker when there is far more provision for non-smokers?

$50 Bob

You are right there are places where you can avoid smokers, except the casino. I understand that at least one night is smoke free. As I enjoy craps, it woud be nice to be able to play without thick smoke.

I believe the question of smoking within the confines of a ship is a very tough call for the cruise lines. I am sure that, first and foremost, cruise lines are looking at the bottom line when they consider the issue of smoking. I believe they would prefer to please everyone, but if that isn't possible then, at the very least, try to please a very large majority. But if smokers and non-smokers are nearly equal then the decision becomes a much more difficult one. And without the help of legislatures to generate a decision, they find themselves in a quagmire. Until numbers of smokers are drastically reduced, the cruise lines are likely to carry on with business as usual with segregated spaces for each group, while giving only lip service to the occasional irate non-smoking passenger.

One smokeless night in the casino is not more for non-smokers.

Lighten up about it.... guess you have never witnessed people who have succummed to secondhand smoke  ....btw you might take time out to google 'polonium.'

While we are on the subject.....For those that are dying for a cigarette I suggest they consider the people around them (not just on the QM2) and the great lengths their fellow cruisers have gone to in bringing some of their finest attire only to be ruined by an odor that lingers on everything from skin and hair to clothing.

Anyway, this is not the thread to discuss the pros and cons of smoking in public, I was merely voicing my opinion which I have the right to do. :)

Members of my family have died from smoking. So whilst I haven't seen anyone near me die from second hand smoke, I have seen death first hand.

And yet I still maintain that the rabid anti smokers should lighten up - your phrase - about this. Have you never thought to clean your clothes occasionally?

If those I wish to be with are smoking, then I'll join them. If you want to find yourself a smoke free area, there is plenty of choice. Okay - possibly not the casino, but is that really the most important place on the ship?

Um, excuse me Bob but I am an American and I have the God-given right to choose exactly when and how I am going to die. Which means I am going to live until 100 and die in my sleep from a heart attack.

Now that I have made that clear to you, I have some factories, airplane manufacturers, and reckless bus drivers to call.....

Is a bar, lounge, casino or balconies really the most important places on the ship for smokers?
