chicruzgal Posted August 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Hey crew...question: I want to know where all the free/discount adult beverages are on the cruise. I don't want to sneak anything on (I have limited space). I know there is the returner's reception (I qualify), the captain's reception for free...what else? Anything besides drink du jour? Let's hear ya! Thanks! :-)
cb at sea Posted August 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Drink of the day isn't really a bargain, IMO. Most of the "foo-foo" type drinks don't have much "kick". Any of the "receptions" that you are invited to will have an open bar (no top-shelf liquor, tho, and only a few types of beer/wine) But, there's no charge for them! Nice! mckinna Posted August 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2008 The Captain's Gala does have free champagne- it's not bad. There is a C&A gathering, also, and if you are Platinum or above, there may be a luncheon, where they serve wine. Of course, there's the dreaded "art auction," with free champagne, but that's a whole other thread.:D Regarding the drink of the day, you can ask for it without the souvenir glass, and it makes it cheaper. VampyBuff Posted August 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Art Auctions - Just don't drink so much champagne you actually buy something! Casino - Especially the first day they usually have a lot of drink girls walking around. On NCL they'd give you drinks if you were playing @ the tables, don't recall how RCCL is. Alcohol Samplings - Just little cups of rum or whatever, but hey, they can add up!

By the way, the different receptions vary from ship to ship, depending on the length of your cruise.

In our experience, the drink of the day was the same, with or without the glass. I asked numerous times, because I hate those plastic RC glasses and wanted to know if I'd get the drink cheaper without. Each time I asked it was the same answer, same price with or without glass. The Welcome Back Capt. gathering we got invited to had open bar.
bethco Posted August 17, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2008 When they are offering samples of all of the flavored rums and liquors in the shops, you can consume quite a bit a free alcohol one little bitty plastic cup shot at a time.:D

I have never seen anything alcoholic being offered for free at a Meet & Mingle. That doesn't mean that someone else hasn't had this, but I haven't. Julma Posted August 17, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 17, 2008 We were on the Enchantment a few years ago and before dinner we would head up to Viking Crown Lounge and have martinis that were discounted. Not very well advertised, we just happened apon it one night. Also tipping a favorite bartender can go a long way.

Merion_Mom Posted August 17, 2008 #17 Share Posted August 17, 2008 When is the welocme back capt gathering and how do you get invited? The Welcome Back party is for returning passengers, so first of all, you have to have sailed with Royal Caribbean before. Then, you need to have registered for the Crown & Anchor Society, RC's loyalty program. They will give you a membership number. When you reserve your cruise, be sure to give them your C&A number. Then, when you sail, you should automatically receive an invitation in your cabin to the Captain's Welcome Back reception.
