dustyroad Posted October 14, 2008 #51 Share Posted October 14, 2008 best time........going up the gangplank and going through the door for the first time.....no turning back.....we are aboard....:) yahhhh. on my first cruise i entered the doors to the lobby and was frozen in my spot by how beautiful and dazzling it was and how huge the ship was. i literally could not breath for a few seconds because my dream was coming true. it is still that way for everytime i step onboard. and i hope it never ends. :D
Lady Chew Posted October 14, 2008 #52 Share Posted October 14, 2008 one second you're on the gangway, and the next you're ON BOARD!! Sailaway At night, sailing, looking out at the sea & sky & stars and down at the wake ... Mr Chew gets right in bed but I like to sit at the window for a while and just look Some really cool moments for me ... when I'm on a stairway or sitting in one of the lounges, and suddenly become aware of the movement of the ship ... and I realize how awesome it is to be at sea Man, I'm ready for a cruise now! but I'll have to wait 'til January!! pba20493 Posted October 15, 2008 #53 Share Posted October 15, 2008 Sitting here reading this entire thread, I got tears in my eyes. I know we sail in just under a month. My best moments on a cruise, booking it, making final payment, then seeing our home for the next week or so. The joy of simply walking on a ship can never be explained to someone that has never cruised, or never will. My vacation starts as soon as we get on the ship, I call Mom and say we will see you in a week. Shut off the cell phone and place it in the safe. Man, I cant wait to go now! Longtonian Posted October 15, 2008 #54 Share Posted October 15, 2008 On our last cruise, on the Royal Princess, sailaway on deck, cocktail in hand, theme to "The Love Boat" playing in the background, imagining I'm back in the seventies, in white flares, long collared shirt, gold medallion resting on hairy chest, platform shoes and aviator sunglasses, big 70s moustache . :D
sullaRaffaello Posted October 15, 2008 #55 Share Posted October 15, 2008 You've all written about some great moments on board. I guess for me, it's arriving in my cabin, looking at the program to see which bar is open, and going down (or up as the case may be) and ordering my first drink. This thread has particular significance for me, as tomorrow, I embark on the final transatlantic voyage of the QE2 from New York. I can't wait. GlendaleCruiser Posted October 15, 2008 #56 Share Posted October 15, 2008 For me, it's the first time I sit down to dinner. I look out the window and see the ocean going by (what a floor show--where else can you get that kind of entertainment??) and I'm sitting there realizing that in addition to that: 1. I didn't have to cook that fabulous dinner. 2. I don't have to do the dishes. At that point, I realize I am LIVIN' THE LIFE!
Jaxsonbrownie Posted October 15, 2008 #57 Share Posted October 15, 2008 For us, first it's walking up the gangway, nothing like it! 2nd, enjoying our first balcony breakfast in the morning!:) Jax
956wenbrook Posted October 15, 2008 #58 Share Posted October 15, 2008 I like the first clear night when you find a remote section of the ship after several drinks and casino winning and a full meal to stare at the sky and see the millions of stars in the vast sky that you normally don't see while on land. To me that is my zen moment. Experiencing something not possible while on land. It is trully an amazing sight to see late at night. If you have not witnessed it, please do so. dane225 Posted October 15, 2008 #59 Share Posted October 15, 2008 For me it is seeing that beautiful ship for the first time and stepping on the gangway!!! Also, sitting on the deck watching the vast ocean pass by with a nice glass of Cabernet!!:)
pandaruth27 Posted October 16, 2008 #60 Share Posted October 16, 2008 for me it is seeing the ship of at the distance and watching it come into view growing in size. calling my mom and maybe a few friends tell them have fun while i am gone. spending quality time with a wonderful boyfriend who i do not see as often i would like but because of work we are apart it seems we are the only two people on the boat. if i have a balcony room sitting out there at night watching the sea and stars go by not carrying what is going on back home just relax and enjoy yourselves. and waking up the next morning at a lushous paradise waiting to be explored. I wish this month hurrys up so i can experience these things first hand. I am a cruise addict and i do not want to be cured:p Pam;) :D
Micki Dee Posted October 16, 2008 #61 Share Posted October 16, 2008 One of my all time best moments was celebrating my wonderful daughters 21st birthday onboard the Sovereign of the Seas. Sailing were my DH and I, my DD and her now fiance and our nephew, who is like our son. The Head waiter went all out to make it a wonderful night, even having her serenaded by trio of musicians. It was a birthday we will all never forget! I remember looking at her across the table and remembering the night she was born...Thinking about the young woman she had become. She looked so beautiful...she took my breath away!

PrincessE Posted October 17, 2008 #64 Share Posted October 17, 2008 What an awesome thread. I loved reading everyone's post. Its given me goosebumps. I have some favorite moments: Sailing out of Ft Lauderdale - When the people who live in the condo highrises come out onto their balconies and wave and fly their Princess SeaWitch flags. And if you sail at night, they flash their interior lights on and off. Awesome. I love it. The chimes...bing bing bong...before an annoucement or the call to dinner. "Second seating is now being served in the Coral Dining Room...Buon Appetito!" After you place your dinner order and your waiter says, "Excellent choice, Madame". I love that. Getting up in the middle of the night, grabbing a beach towel or blanket and go out to sit on the Promenade Deck to listen to the silence and to let the waves speak to you. The black night, the light of a ship maybe in the distance, a warm breeze, the sound of the waves slapping against the hull...it's in those moments I truly reconnect with myself and God. My all time favorite moment - Marrying my husband on the Dawn Princess, May 20, 2006 in the Wheelhouse Bar while in the Port of Seattle, just before we set sail for Alaska. The doors are closed to the bar, 30 of our family and friends wait inside. Standing outside those closed doors, arm in arm with my Father and the Princess floral steward peeks through the door behind me and says, "Ma'am...your flowers...are they okay?" Looking down at the bouquet I ordered from Princess (white roses) I realize Princess had mixed in white lillies with my roses. My Grandmother, Lilly, had passed away the year before and I was sorely missing her at my wedding. I realized tearfully and joyfully that she erally was there with me and I turned to the steward and said, "Oh...my...they're perfect. Just perfect. Thank you so much." He beamed a beautiful smile, nodded and closed the door. My heart soared as I walked down that aisle.

Go-Bucks! Posted October 18, 2008 #68 Share Posted October 18, 2008 Mine aren't very original - many of you have already said them, but I feel the same way: ~walking up the gangway and onto the ship for the first time (yes, my long awaited cruise vacation has really begun!) ~finding my cabin and looking all around it, then meeting the steward ~going up to the top deck for sailaway and feeling those first movements away from the dock (yes, we're heading for another relaxing adventure) ~the rest of that embarkation day, knowing that I still have the whole cruise ahead of me, but I'm also enjoying it now! Oh, I can't wait - just 7 1/2 wks to go!!! :D
