SabreSailor Posted October 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Last time we were on HAL was 2006 and the all-you-can-stuff-in-the-blue-bag laundry deal was $12. I contacted HAL before we left and they confirmed that it is now $15. Not true. Just back from the Zuiderdam and it's now $20! Still better than the individual prices, but it was a surprise.... It is usually higher in the Med than in North America. With that said, it was $20.00 on the Westerdam in the Med in 2007 but only $15.00 on the Noordam in 2008. Willsot Posted October 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2008 It was one of the last "bargains." IMHO still a better buy than things like photos or the Pinnacle and I generally lose $20 in minutes in the casino.
Spinner2 Posted October 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2008 aboard maasdam now and we paid twelve yesterday for a well-stuffed bag. Please excuse shorthand; I'm on my iPhone in fort Lauderdale.

Hi, SabreSailor. I think we were on the same cruise, but our laundry charges were $15.00 per blue bag. Strange, yes? Cheers, Karen
irishjim Posted October 14, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Hi Spoely, Wife and I were on the Zaandam in May2008,Blue bag was still only $12 then. Strange indeed?
Opinions Posted October 14, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2008 We were on the 24 day Med cruise on the Zuiderdam departing April 26, 2008...It was $12 a bag then.

Between this and the beer thread going on, it sounds like the Zuiderdam might be classified as their test ship...
jhannah Posted October 14, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 14, 2008 It was $12 for us on the Eurodam inaugural. An eventual increase in price fleet-wide wouldn't surprise me.
SabreSailor Posted October 14, 2008 Author #11 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Hi, SabreSailor. I think we were on the same cruise, but our laundry charges were $15.00 per blue bag. Strange, yes? Did you use the service on the first or second cruise? We were only on the second cruise (9/29-10/11). It could be the rate changed for the second cruise.... serendipity1499 Posted October 14, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Checked our Final Statement from the Veendam in Alaska...On Aug 18, (this year) they charged us $12.00 for the bag.. Aunty Pat Posted October 14, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 14, 2008 I’ve seen the price differ from one day to the next depending on how busy the laundry was. I’ve seen it as low as $7/bag on the first day of the cruise to as high as $15/bag on the 2nd to last day. Aunty Pat
navybankerteacher Posted October 14, 2008 #15 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Every time I've sailed with HAL they have had a "special" once or twice - with reduced price for a bagful -- I cannot recall what we paid in January -- regardless, it is a good service and worth it as it lets you travel a lot lighter. We used laundry service for each leg, and I rechecked my bill this afternoon. All laundry charges were $15.00 per bag. Just one more thing I will (probably) never understand... waiting2retire Posted October 15, 2008 #18 Share Posted October 15, 2008 I was also a little put out by the $20 charge (same cruise as SabreSailor), since I'm sure I saw a recent Zuiderdam cruiser state she paid $12 for the same bag, but it's still a better deal than piece by piece. I think some of my clothes (especially my pyjamas) were in shock, never having seen an iron before :D Bonnie
brucory Posted October 15, 2008 #19 Share Posted October 15, 2008 Back in MAY,we paid 12 dollars for a very over stuffed bag on the O.. $20 seems a bit rich, but there isnt much choice out there when there are no self service machines... Mmm. :o
janmcn Posted October 15, 2008 #20 Share Posted October 15, 2008 Something must have been screwed up on your charges...it was IN PRINT on the Zuiderdam (in your boarding pamphlet you get with your card, etc. in it) most recently as this last week (got off Oct. 11, after boarding Sept. 17 in the Med.) that the laundry bag was $15. You might have had something extra (dry cleaning?) in the bag that upped the charge. Not a big deal overall. The laundry was excellent, BUT 48 hours is definitely the minimum...and one time ours took 4 days....so be prepared.
PandCAV Posted October 16, 2008 #21 Share Posted October 16, 2008 We were on the Noordam in the Med. in September. We used the service twice and it cosy $20 each time. Don't those little bags hold a lot?...Good value, with good results
