Although Friends of Bill W deals with a different addiction, on a cruise, I always understood that any 12 stepper was welcome.

 

I belong to a depression / anxiety group that also has 12 steppers. We deal with AA, NA, OA & GA. At ground an addiction is an addiction. It's only for a week or two.

 

OP & anyone else wondering how to avoid the casino, either sail a ship that doesn't have one or at least talk to your sponsor about the best way to handle this temptation.

If the ship goes only to US ports there is no casino. International waters don't make the difference. The ship has to stop in a port out of the country before casinos are allowed to open or play. That is why cruise lines to Hawaii always hit Ensenada, Mexico when they come or go.

 

Second sentence and following is not true. Casinos on most ships open as soon as they are in international waters. If an international stop was required, on my next cruise Princess would not be able to open the casinos until the third night after two sea days at the beginning of the cruise. You can bet that the first stop on that cruise out of Ft Lauderdale would not be Antigua if they had to wait that long to open the casino.

the only downside to this is the fact that sometimes it is hard to find out when/where the meetings are scheduled and whether or not anyone else will show up. it is not always posted in the daily schedule or on the board by guest services.

On every ship I've sailed (Cunard, HAL, NCL, Celebrity, Orient, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival) the daily schedule always seemed to list the Friends of Bill meetings.

C'mon... the "foreign" port stop is because of the PVSA- it has nothing to do with casinos.

True about who knows who will show up, but if you need support, at least it's something. I too have always seen it in the dailies no matter what cruise line I was on (RCL, NCL or Princess).

Yes on Friends of BillW (I didn't think of that!), and yes on PVSA.

 

Not that it will matter to the OP, but trust that casino will be open whenever it is legal as will duty-free shops.

'buon compleanno!' At least you know and are doing something about it. I don't as I hate casinos. Basically we lost $.75 in a slot leaving Vegas and never looked back. Hope they aren't too mad at us as the trip was free.
