Recommended Posts

We'd like to do a 8 - 14 day cruise to the Caribbean from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.

Recommendations for best cruise ships for very active adults appreciated.

Like pools & nightlife.

Thank you.

Crystal has been recognized by most as having the most comprehensive programs for their passengers. On any given cruise you can participate in their Creative Learning Institute which includes computer instruction, piano lessons, cooking and wine appreciation, bridge classes and play, foreign language classes, investment lectures and classes on health and fitness. They also have special guest lecturers who come on board and present talks on various issues of the day or for the area in which you're cruising. They also have physical fitness programs such as their Walk on Water vests, golf instruction, basketball, deck tennis and a full wrap around promenade deck for walking or running.

It kind of makes me laugh when cruiselines show their daily newsletter packed with things to do. And it's true - there is an hour-by-hour listing of events. But if you look real close you will see the "events" include:

8:00 am - 11:00 pm Pool Open

8:00 am - 11:00 pm Shops Open

8:00 am - 6:00 pm Spa Open

10:00 am - Library Opens

Card Room Opens

It would be helpful if you mention what types of activities that you are looking for. Most ships have lots of activities for adults. The difference though is that some ships have much less children on board than other ships. But other factors such as the itinerary, the time of year and the duration of the cruise impact how many children will be on board.

The most active cruise line I have ever been on is Costa. The pool area is none stop. Dance lessons, exerize class (With a twist), bingo, games and on and on it goes all day one thing right after another. Each evening has a theme so as you head to the restaurant there is many things going on mask making, bocci ball, flower making, staff running around in animal customs. Itialian night they had us all dancing in the dining room before desert, then a congo line. Waiters putting on a song and dance routine (very funny). Toga night a blast.

I did a full review on cc the mediterranea January 5th 2008.

Hope it helps

Costa - extremely active pools, bars, lounges; lots of interactive games and karaoke; more diverse guests from various countries and cultures.

RCCL - lots of bells & whistles for active teens and adults, like climbing walls, ice skating, sports facilities.
