donaldsc Posted December 21, 2008 #177 Share Posted December 21, 2008 You could order lots of food at the restaurant and leave it or take extra food at the buffet and not eat it. If you do enough small things, it would get back to them. DON
spongerob Posted December 21, 2008 #178 Share Posted December 21, 2008 If there was a "mutiny" I guess I missed it. :rolleyes:We don't normally bother to much with ship or passenger activities & tend to do our own thing. Thanks for the feedback, Ace.

Don't have to shout. Just a little friendly discussion. Have I ever been rude? I remember my wife telling me that I cut in front of someone and it was rude. I really didn't see them and it was an accident, but it was rude. When you travel you are going to run into rude people. Sometimes they don't even know they were rude. My wife and I once shared a cab with two ladies after getting off the ship, I think in Gdansk, Poland. When we got back, they gave the cab driver what I assumed was 1/2 of the fare and left. The cab driver looked at me and I just covered the extra fare that they didn't pay. The ladies didn't even say nice being with you and see you around. That might have been rude, but I don't think the ladies realized anything. I do strive not to be the "Ugly American". I used to wear an American Flag pin on my hat on tours. I was being proud, but found out that others did not respect the flag as I did, so I don't anymore. Tips: I love to tip. I have been told by the people that I tipped that it was too much. Now that is what is known as an honest person. I guess I pegged that person correctly and informed them that in my view the tip was justified. What kind of money are we talking about. $60 for serving a meal in my cabin and than another $50 because he was going ashore to shop for his kids. This was in addition to his generic tip. Everyone here is absolutely correct. These ship workers work hard. Get to know them as to what family they have. Communicate more with them. Sometimes they are embarrassed to talk about their families because it makes them sad when they can't be with them. I certainly hope that getting old (not for sissies) doesn't mean that I am going to be rude. How old is old or elderly? It is older than me.:) I'm 71. Ernie Brognine was on our cruise around the horn in 2004. He was 87 and one of the nicest people you ever want to be around. I considered him elderly. He would get on stage and answer questions. Of course someone would ask him about his wives. He would just say "Next Question". He did talk about Alan Ladd and Shelley Winters that he said was a busy body. I sat with him at a table in the lounge and he just wanted to hear about Hyperbaric Medicne. He was sharp and well informed. Cut us old folks some slack and never be ashamed to say that something is rude if you thought it was. Remember they may not be able to hear well. Never stiff the people taking care of your food or your personals. If they wanted to they could do you some harm and you would never know it. Treat them with love and respect. nceyeguy Posted December 21, 2008 #188 Share Posted December 21, 2008 I also was on this cruise, and find the direction of this thread to be almost comical. As you can see, I post very infrequently, and am not a "cheerleader". If there was this "mutiny", I sure did not see or hear of it. Now, I feel left out. I talked with one gentleman who removed auto tips for a completely different reason, and that was it. Food was in my opinion mediocre, but we only ate in the DR twice, by choice. We are definitely not "foodies", so thus the subjective nature. Food in the buffet also seemed to be off the norm, IMHO. The food at the international cafe was excellent, but the service was lacking at the busy times as more people discovered it. As for rude people, I found it to be evenly split, younger and older. People need to learn some elevator courtesy, off first, then on. This was our 5th Princess cruise, and as usual, had a great time! Staff we talked with said the spending did seem off, but it has been a progressive thing.(ie. bar waiters, casino dealers). Staff in general was excellent!! ( all but two) As for the fuel sur-charge. I believe that Pricess/Carnival handled it poorly, as they should have just done away with it the day they announced it, period. Not 3 weeks in the future. It would have been nice to get it back, but 'oh well, it was there when I booked so I knew I had to pay it, and its over in my opinion. It sure won't stop me from booking again, as I did on board. I am not really good at writing these things, but the above is my experience on this cruise.
scapel Posted December 21, 2008 #189 Share Posted December 21, 2008 Did not mean to yell, just not good at this typing thing!!sorry!! Hey partsman, Thanks for the apology, But I guess sometimes you do have to shout at us elderly people. Some of us are hard of hearing. You have a Merry Christmas. You might just stimulate me to telll more stories. Jumped ship once. Our cruise ship hit another ship Have taken care of passengers aboard ship Wonderful stories of cabin stewards-- On Celebrity we always look for Lawerence, but he is usually on another deck. We have eaten at the Captain's table several times, but once we had a ships officer come to our table to eat. Who do you think paid for the wine? On one cruise the ships officer ate at our table every night.-We could never get served until he sat down. :) We would rib him if he was late, but he was the doctor so you know he always had an excuse. He took it in good spirit.
CTGirl Posted December 21, 2008 #190 Share Posted December 21, 2008 I just got off the ship as well. I only heard one complaint about the fuel supplement and it was on the last day of the cruise but it did not entail removing the auto-tip. I knew we missed the OBC by one cruise but I figured “Oh Well”. We had a lovely cruise, the service was excellent and the ship was beautiful all decked out for the holidays. awhcruiser Posted December 21, 2008 #196 Share Posted December 21, 2008 Do you have a head count of how many people??? There are so many passengers mad at being ripped off out of their fuel charge rebate because one day after being low for weeks, Nov 4th oil spiked for one day only at 70.54 a barrel, to then drop to current levels and thus disqualified from the convoluted rebate system. Expressed is the concern that the rebate was not objectively assessed as promised and just a marketing ploy. Folks are doing all sorts of things to deliberately getting back at princess. I've heard of many examples * Removal of auto tipping totally - "management is to pay the service charge from my un-refunded fuel surcharge." * self organising shore tours - canceling out anything originally booked through the company. Local taxis have said that there are few people coming in off the ships - it seems more folks than usual are staying aboard and "eating up". We are having a wonderful time - but have notice that service and food quality has declined significantly.
