Does anybody have any suggestions as to what hotels are good options to stay in the night before the cruise since the hurricane? Also, how formal are people dressing these days for formal nights? I haven't been on a cruise in about 5 years. Back then, we dressed in floor length formal gowns and fit in well with other cruisers. Mom's are 'usually' correct!!! ;) Will still see a majority of suits and cocktail dresses (or better), but 'other' attire will be mixed in.......... The trend at least in this country is towards informal and the ships are showing it. There will be tux worn of course but the number will certainly be in the minority. There are a lot of suits worn but together with the tux guys they will be less than half. What you will see is sport coats, sweaters and even no coats. Some will wear ties and some will not. Some may even show up in jeans. What you will not see is shorts and tshirts. I have seen military uniforms, western wear and Scottish attire. We will not go into what men wear under their kilts. A couple hours from the port across the Sabine is a casino hotel...:D Probably want to start calling or googling to see who is available. Many are full of Galveston folks in recovery mode and those there to rebuild. Maybe up 10-20 miles north of the port would be open. Dickinson, League City, etc may be good places to look as well. firefly333 Posted December 23, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 23, 2008 Im still booked at the Howard Johnson's in Galveston, and everyone is telling me to get a expensive hotel. It does include cruise parking on higher ground. Another from my roll call is at hotel Galvez. Be prepared hotels are up a good $30 from last year due to scarcity. Urge you to consider staying on the island to help support the local economy! Dress: We still dress. My wife wears cocktail dress, I still wear the tux.
