Received My Fuel Supplement Refund

SoonerOne

Recommended Posts

I'm cruising in April and still no supplement back... but I'm still outside final payment. For me it doesn't matter if it goes to OBC or the credit card... it is all going to balance out the same, lol.

We're sailing March 21. I just paid off the balance the beginning of this month, less the fuel supplement. Up until yesterday, the website would not allow me to print off my documents because there was a "balance"...but last night, there was NO balance. My documents printed, and there were big, fat zeros in the fuel supplement column...yippee!!!

We sail on the Freedom on June 20th. I contacted my TA & she said that Carnival has not taken the fuel surcharges off of all sailing yet, and ours is one of them. Anybody out there with summer sailings have theirs removed yet? Just curious.

We are sailing on the Legend in July and I just noticed yesterday that the fuel supplement has been removed from my balance.

We just returned from Carnival Conquest. Took our family during New Year's week. There was 8 of us. We received a refund because prices went down and also the fuel supplement. We had a total of $798 OBC which we took as there was 6 adults drinking. Love OBC!!!

We're sailing 4/26/09 on the Conquest. Earlier this week when I checked, our balance still showed the fuel supplement. I just check and the fuel supplement is no longer there. We have until 2/10/09 to make our final payment.

We are sailing on the 4/27/09 Ecstasy. The fuel surcharge was removed from our bill a month ago.

We cruise March 1 and paid the cruise in full (with supplement) in June 2008. Fuel supplement is still showing on reservation, so I asked the PVP. She told me that they would wait until closer to the cruise to issue OBC, because it still could be implemented depending on the price of crude. So, they didn't want to credit it just to possibly re-charge it. It doesn't matter to me how they credit it as long as it is credited. I just booked another cruise for May 31 and wasn't charged a surcharge, but was told that it could be charged if crude goes above $75.

:d lol

we sailed Jan 3rd 5 separate cabins.... some booked with Debit card, some credit card...mine was direct check...

Each Cabin had their fuel surcharge as an OBC. There was a letter per person in our room explaining the credit when we arrived

We are sailing on the Valor, May 31, and ours has NOT been removed yet either. I even got a price adjustment today and while yes, they adjusted to the lower price, there was still a fuel supp. tacked on. Oh well, I know they will take care of it. I just hope they do it before final pymt just to simplify things.

You were told incorrectly. Everyone will receive a credit card credit for sail dates after mid-December 2008.

michiganian we are on the same sailing as you in Feb. We have a great roll call over on the roll call board, drop in and say hello.

We got our fuel surcharge credit yesterday.

Our pvp called today to say it is in the form of an obc, and it does post on our S&S account as such. I checked as soon as I was off the phone with her.

So not everyone is receiving the credit to their credit card.

Our sail date was Jan 1 - and received on board credit.

(never received info about it - told when asked PVP about it that it took awhile to notify thousands of people) ( I'm just happy we got)

I sail Feb 22 and my seamiles card was just credited today. My TA received the original announcement in December that said people sailing prior to first week in Feb would get OBC if final payment had been made and those sailing after would get refund. Carnival told my TA verbally that I would get OBC when she called on my behalf to tell them I would rather have OBC than refund and they assured her I would get OBC. Well no OBC, I got credited instead. Maybe they didn't want to give me free seamiles.

At least I got the money.

On December 4, Carnival Cruise Lines made a bold move to announce the suspension of fuel surcharges. It surprised many in the cruise industry. At least two other lines were in discussions of suspending theirs (and one was determined to be first). Who'd have guessed Carnival would beat them all to the punch.

One week prior to CCL's announcement I had made a post here on CruiseCritic saying that CCL would absolutely be reactive rather than proactive with the move. Boy, did they ever prove me totally wrong. :o

Only thing is, they made the bark without being able to bite. They didn't have the means in place to make good on the announcement. Just pulled that one out of their nether regions, and then tasked other employees to make it reality. I can only imagine the frustrated conversations going on within those walls. Something to the effect of "Um, we can barely keep our website running for 72 hours without glitches, and you want us to remove three different dollar amounts of surcharges from all booked sailings, and yet skip over those that were exempt in the first place?? Gee, thanks, boss!" :(

Printed info to some passengers was received in mid-December saying "within one to two weeks". The recorded message on the toll-free line began in mid-December saying "within one to two weeks". That period of time came and went, and the issue is still in resolution mode. There definitely was no written contract on the announcement (nor should there have been), but most can clearly say that CCL didn't produce what was a written and verbal promise.

What's overly frustrating to me personally is reading these posts here from multiple passengers who are getting multiple different answers when calling the same company. And we all know this is far from being the first time that the cruise vacation specialists and PVPs were not properly provided with the necessary tools to answer the questions created by senior executive decisions.

Yes, CCL is the largest line. Yes, CCL is the most successful in the industry. Yes, CCL has the most passengers annually. But, alas, that also means they have the ability to disappoint even more people than the others when they occasionally depend on "keister answers" to run the shop. One could almost go so far as to say CCL stands for crappy communication line.

I will absolutely still sail on Carnival, and will continue to have superb vacations with lots of life-long memories. They offer a quality product, but that doesn't exempt them from making people (such as myself) look at them with extreme disappointment on occasion. No matter how much I cruise, no one on these boards will label me as a Carnival 'cheerleader', because I tend to call 'em like I see 'em. I don't work for CCL. When I pay my money to CCL, they work for me.

I have no idea what the above rant is about and I'm not going to take the time to reread it to see if I can figure it out.

I sailed 12/13 and returned 12/17. Yep, because of that one day when oil closed $0.73 over the $70 price, I had the pleasure of paying $90 in fuel charges that the people boarding after me didn't. Of course, they ONLY got their "refund" as an OBC. Poor dears!

Whatever. I understood what, how and why the surcharge was implented and understood their explanation of how, when and why the surcharge would be eliminated, refunded or credited.

Today, the fuel surcharge has vanished from both my May Victory booking as well as my December Miracle booking.

Calling it a "refund" would be incorrect, as the amounts had not yet been paid.

It was removed from the remaining balance due. $126 and $144 for a total of $270 that I won't be paying to Carnival in the upcoming months. Until I book my next cruise, that is.

said that as of 1/12, Carnival said there would be a refund on my March 16th cruise. I have 33 people in my group and I sent in the last payment for my group in December. She said that as of right now I would get a refund of 45/p in double rooms and 36.66/p in triple rooms. She said she would mail me a check on the day that we left for our cruise because the refund amount could change between now and March 16th and she didn't want us to have to go back to owing money. I told her that I preferred to actually have it before I left or as an OBC. She said the OBC was not an option and that she would send a check for the refund on March 1 as long as nothing changes between now and then.

I had a question. I amon the 2/16 Fantasy cruise and had made my payment in full before the fuel supplement refund was announced. I was looking at my online documents today and it shows my fuels supplement had been taken off, but it was not added to my OBC section. I know that the fuel supplement could be re-added, but what they did made it look like my $110 went away. There is not reference to the possible credit anywhere in the documents. Should I be concerned?

Makes me think they are going to wait until close to my Dec 09 cruise then and wait to see if oil is back up before removing it.

As fuel prices continue to decline, Carnival has announced that it will suspend the fuel supplement for all voyages departing on or after December 17, 2008.

Effective December 4, 2008, for all new bookings on cruises departing on or after December 17, 2008, the fuel supplement will not be charged.

For all existing bookings made prior to December 4, 2008 for cruises departing on or after December 17, 2008, the fuel supplement will be refunded. The refund of the fuel supplement will be made in the form of a shipboard credit for all bookings within the final payment period. All bookings outside of the final payment period will be adjusted to remove the fuel supplement and guests will be provided with a revised final payment amount.

Carnival reserves the right to re-instate the fuel supplement for all guests at up to $9 per person per day should the price of light sweet crude oil according to the NYMEX (New York Mercantile Exchange Index) increase above $70 per barrel.

We are hopeful that fuel prices have stabilized and will remain at a more rational level. The suspension of the fuel supplement will make our cruise vacations even more affordable and enhance the value of a Carnival cruise. In this tough economic environment, we are pleased to be able to offer our guests a great cruise vacation at an even more affordable price.
