Tour on your own in Lisbon

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were wondering if there is a bus service in Lisbon? We plan on going downtown and walking around, verses going on any ship sponsored tours. Here are a few question;

1. how far is downtown from the port

2. are there bus or taxi service to downtown

3. Does the ship offer any roundtrip bus service

thanks,

I believe there are two docking areas in Lisbon. Ours was further out west around Belem, and the other is closer in. Yes, there were cabs available. Weather there's a shuttle depends on your cruiseline.

There are several tourist trolleys around the city, and it's a great place to walk, although there's some up and down. Google some Lisbon tourist sites to find out about this.

If you dock near Belem you can catch the #15 trolley to Central Lisbon (get off at the large central square, Praca da Figueira) for about 1.20 euro. Trolleys are a great way to sightsee in Lisbon and I highly recommend the #12 which does a circular tour around the hilly, picturesque Alfama area. You can catch it at the same square mentioned above.

Rick Steves has great info on doing Lisbon on your own, including some walking tours.
