Ryffian Posted February 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2009 On my only two cruises I was lucky enough to have a balcony cabin both times. I absolutely loved it except for one time of the day: while docked during the day. The cabin would heat up regardless how low the a/c was set. Combine that with a shower and I was almost just as sweaty after my shower as before. My questions are, does the whole ship "heat up" like that, or do balcony cabins heat up more from the amount of glass/lack of insulation between the interior and exterior? (And am I the only one who ever had this "issue"?) Could I avoid this scenario by booking an ocean-view or interior cabin? Thanks!!
clhiggins Posted February 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2009 I find it helps close the drapes when the ship is in port and ask the room steward not to open them. You're right all that glass makes it difficult for the air conditioning to adequately cool the room.
cb at sea Posted February 23, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Agreed--keep the drapes closed if the sun is shining in! And in most cabins, the AC won't cool when the door is open, so keep it shut, too!
Sea Hag Posted February 23, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2009 I'm with the others on shutting the drapes. That makes a huge difference. Also, it's been our experience that some cabins have "overachiever" air conditioners and others have "underachievers." Don't think we've ever seen a pattern in this. Just random, or so we think.
