hump downside?

Can we hear from someone who has had an angled hump cabin facing forward? We are booked into 7215--just wondering if wind is a huge issue and if I should start looking for one facing aft. It seems like it would bug me not to be able to look forward--but who knows???

Thx Cathy

Will post on ours when we get back (May 16th) We are booked in 6214 (Solstice) which is the first angled balcony off the regular hump balconies.... facing forward. Have read this is the biggest of the balconies. Not too worried about wind..... I am from Corpus Christi TX and it is windy here about 98% of the time anyway. I agree that it is better to look forward rather than back.

I just booked Equinox for May 2010. At first I booked a Concierge hump. But it was about $400 more so went back to a 1A hump with the deep balcony. We are Elite so dont really see any benefit of having the CC, besides the extended room service breakfast menu.

Are you on the 5/3/2010 sailing from Rome - Eastern Mediterranean?

I personally LOVED my C1 hump cabin #1243 - about triple the size of a standard balcony - it was HUGE!!!!! Literally the largest non-suite balcony on the ship! The balcony was great for hosting cocktail parties - we had 25+ people out there one day! Being on the aft part of the hump there was virtually no wind issue to deal with. We got sun when we wanted it, and shade if desired as well. Due to balcony depth there were no privacy issues related to the angled shape.

There are 58 +/- cabins with the same size balcony we had - they are:

Resort Deck: 2105, 2109, 2106, 2110

Penthouse Deck: 1547, 1552, 1601, 1605, 1606, 1610

Sky Deck: 1075, 1044, 1231, 1243, 1247, 1108, 1120, 1124

Panorama Deck: 9155, 9192, 9209, 9215, 9237, 9241, 9266, 9270, 9292, 9296

Vista Deck: 8199, 8162, 8255, 8259, 8281, 8285, 8228, 8232, 8254, 8258

Sunrise Deck: 7159, 7206, 7215, 7219, 7241, 7245, 7260, 7264, 7286, 7290

Continental Deck: 6155, 6156, 6209, 6215, 6237, 6241, 6210, 6214, 6236, 6240

Most of these are on the hump, but some are forward where the ship starts to indent. The rooms run the range from Category 2C, 1A, C1, or AQ (with the exception of 6209/6210 which are categorized as 07 Obstucted Balcony - great balcony at a small price!). There are also many cabins adjacent to the ones I listed that also have oversized balconies that are about double the size of normal ones, but I would go for the triple sized ones first :D

Hope this helps!

Scott

P.S. - I'd also tend to choose the ones that angle to the aft over the ones that angle towards the bow as the forward facing ones could tend to get windy .....

Hi Scott, after reading your report on "hump" cabins, I switched to #1605 (Aqua Spa) cabin, facing forward. This is on the Equinox. You mentioned this cabin in your list. Thanks so much for the tip. elaine

any pics?

Well we are back. Had the most wonderful time. The ship is beautiful and very well laid out. Except for around the pool during the gorgeous sunny weather we had on sea days.....it never felt crowded a bit.

Our cabin was great. The balcony was huge. And yes I have a couple of pics..... will try to link them in next post. There were lifeboats near our balcony but we did not find them to be in our way...... in fact when standing by the rail you were pretty much OVER the water. Wind did not bother us at all. One day was windy but since the balcony was angled you could move your chair to one side or the other and no wind. Sun situation was the same way. The internet cafe was very close but there is a sliding glass door that seperates the hallway to the cabins from the hallway where the elevators are. Makes for very quiet cabins.

We did not go to any shows or much else except dinner in main dining room, Tuscan Grille once (YUM) and the casino at night. This itinerary is pretty heavy duty but that is what we sail for. Not interested in bingo, trivia games etc. but did want to get to the hot glass show but never did. Bitro on 5 has wonderful crepes including breakfast ones. Cafe el Bocio is where we got our coffee every morning....along with free pastries.

the ports were amazing. We loved our precruise stay in Rome (2nd visit) at the Albergo del Senato. Best location in the whole city ! Santorini was cool, Mykonos was a "take it easy" day. Istanbul we fell in love with as well as Kusadasi. Athens - always wanted to go there but don't have to go back. And Naples too. Half the ship had bad head colds half way thru the cruise - me included so took it easy at the end. Still have cough.

Enjoyed Celebrity. Definately a notch up from Royal Caribbean -- don't get me wrong - I will sail RCI again !

If you have any questions... let me know.

I am trying to find out if the overhang a problem on the angled balcony "hump" cabins? I am concerned that our cabin will be dark and the balcony feel closed in. If that is the case, we might prefer the regular balcony. Thanks, and glad you had a wonderful cruise.

Just be aware of the white "X" on Solstice hump balconies which may partially block views thru the glass.

Can anyone tell me which are the white "X" hump balconies?

We are booked into 1247 is there any info on this one.

Thankyou

I just answered my own question. After 4/19, Equinox is re-numbering the cabins, so #1243 is in a different location, therfore, recategorized as C2.

I'm a little confused. I'm looking at cabin 1243 on Eclipse for a western Caribbean and on Solstice for an eastern Caribbean sailing. They are in the same place on the Celebrity deck plans, but on the Solstice it is a C1 cabin and the Eclipse it's a C2. Is that correct??

We stayed in 1608 during our May 09 E Med on Solstice & never had a wind problem while underway. In fact the balcony's sliding glass door was very soundproof. Also, no noise from the elevators since the auto-sliding glass door just outside the stateroom door was always closed until you approached it.

The large overhang never bothered us either. Yes it was always shaded.

I never noticed a substantial difference in balcony size either when compared to similar (closer) staterooms and it faced forward with a great view. This stateroom's bed was near the balcony. We enjoyed the room so much we tried to book it on Equinox for our Jan 2010 journey but no such luck. We settled for 1582 instead.

Great ship, great trip !!

:confused: Can you be more specific as to what exactly the blockage is ??? Is it a

"frosted" type of glass or a solid wall of white paint ?? We have one of these cabins for a B2B in January,2010 so I would like to know what to expect.

Thanks. :)

When I look at the ship's layout it looks like the hump cabins are very close to the elevators - any problem with noise?

After 11 days on Solstice in stateroom AQ1608 we never noticed a noise problem. An automatic sliding glass door separated the stateroom hallway from the elevators & our SR was 12 feet from that glass door.
