hump downside?

Thank-you lives-to-travel-er. That site was amazing and it really does show how large the balconys are.

I am glad that the photos helped. The balconies on the side of the hump are quite nice. We were just on the Solstice again a couple weeks ago and got to go on a cabin that is on the hump. The balcony is the same as the standard balcony. Of course, being on the hump does give a better view down, but since there are so many hump balconies, it pretty much feels like the standard balconies when you look to the sides.

lives-to-travel-er,

Thanks for recommending our site.

I personally LOVED my C1 hump cabin #1243 - about triple the size of a standard balcony - it was HUGE!!!!! Literally the largest non-suite balcony on the ship! The balcony was great for hosting cocktail parties - we had 25+ people out there one day! Being on the aft part of the hump there was virtually no wind issue to deal with. We got sun when we wanted it, and shade if desired as well. Due to balcony depth there were no privacy issues related to the angled shape.

There are 58 +/- cabins with the same size balcony we had - they are:

Resort Deck: 2105, 2109, 2106, 2110

Penthouse Deck: 1547, 1552, 1601, 1605, 1606, 1610

Sky Deck: 1075, 1044, 1231, 1243, 1247, 1108, 1120, 1124

Panorama Deck: 9155, 9192, 9209, 9215, 9237, 9241, 9266, 9270, 9292, 9296

Vista Deck: 8199, 8162, 8255, 8259, 8281, 8285, 8228, 8232, 8254, 8258

Sunrise Deck: 7159, 7206, 7215, 7219, 7241, 7245, 7260, 7264, 7286, 7290

Continental Deck: 6155, 6156, 6209, 6215, 6237, 6241, 6210, 6214, 6236, 6240

Most of these are on the hump, but some are forward where the ship starts to indent. The rooms run the range from Category 2C, 1A, C1, or AQ (with the exception of 6209/6210 which are categorized as 07 Obstucted Balcony - great balcony at a small price!). There are also many cabins adjacent to the ones I listed that also have oversized balconies that are about double the size of normal ones, but I would go for the triple sized ones first :D

Hope this helps!

Scott

P.S. - I'd also tend to choose the ones that angle to the aft over the ones that angle towards the bow as the forward facing ones could tend to get windy .....

Ooooohhhhh - I was unaware that this issue had not been fixed! Yes according to that post the "best" angled/hump balconies on VISTA deck would actually be:

Vista Deck: 8197, 8160, 8253, 8257, 8226, 8230, 8279, 8283, 8252, 8262

That'll teach me for trusting the supposedly updated deckplans!

Wow, great job, thanks!:)

Cabin 7282, loved it, and the configuration was - bed near balcony, sofa near bathroom.

GB

We will be near there in a few months and wonder if you could tell us:

1. was there a place outside the elevators where we could meet our roll call group for private excursions to walk off the ship together? Thought it was the Library but I see that is a few decks higher. Is it a reading room?

2. Is there a door leading to the elevators and if so, does it close quietly on its own or do you hear it slamming each time someone goes through it?

Thank you for your help!

The deck plans for the Vista deck on the Solstice are incorrect. We thought we would have an angled balcony by looking at the deck plans, however they are not correct. Anyway, the traditional deck has plenty of room and one should not be anxious about being so close to the elevator. This is not a make it or break it when booking on the Solstice, at least it wasn't for us. Please see my review of the Solstice sailing from last week. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

Hope this helps!

Mke and Carol,

On looking at your signature, I realize that you also have pics of the panama canal. This will be my next cruise. I hate to get off topic, but I did want to say that I appreciate your site. It is amazing.

Thanks so much for your post. We have #1243 on the Equinox next Feb. Just came off the Solstice "aft". It was great also, but we're told this balcony is one of the largest. We were concerned re wind but I suppose this cabin is against it?

Glad to see cabin (9209) on the list. We have it booked for our next Solstice cruise...

Will the same cabin numbers apply to Equinox & Eclipse?

From looking at the site, there will be cabin # changes after April 19, 2010 to (some?) Equinox deck plans.

Scott,

I came accross your post and it was helpful. We are booked in one of these hump rooms on the Solstice angled to the aft. I will take photos of the balcony and post back on our return. We didn't purposly pick this room, so it's a welcome surprise for sure. Terry

Okay. Now I am really confused. I don't get cabin 8262. Maybe, I'm not seeing something. Even if they are off by 1 cabin, how does 8262 become a large hump cabin.

Help!

Can we hear from someone who has had an angled hump cabin facing forward? We are booked into 7215--just wondering if wind is a huge issue and if I should start looking for one facing aft. It seems like it would bug me not to be able to look forward--but who knows???

Thx Cathy

The closer you can get to the middle of the hump, the better.

I agree unless the little larger angled balcony is really important to you. You can look forward, aft and down with no obstructions.

I didn't realise being on the hump was such a popular position. I've just checked and we're in the middle of the hump on Solstice Panorama 9236. Anyone been in this cabin? Really starting to look forard to this cruise booked nealry a year ago.

We are booked in cabin 9297 which I booked as it looked larger on the deck plan, it is the last cabin before the aft. Does anyone know if this will be windy and has anyone any experience of one of these cabins. There is still some availability on the hump on our cruise so I could possible change cabin if anyone thinks this would be better. Many thanks for all your help.

Hi...nice report on #1243...we have booked it on Equinox next Feb. Question: our cruise has it categorized as C1; if booked after April 19th it becomes a C2. Different class and cost. Any idea why?

Hi Scott,

Thanks so much for this list, we are currently booked in 2107, and I see you are listing the cabins on either side of us. Is your list completely accurate? It looks like 2105 and 2109 are still available, so I will switch if this is the case.

Thanks!

I just answered my own question. After 4/19, Equinox is re-numbering the cabins, so #1243 is in a different location, therfore, recategorized as C2.
