We took a Carnival cruise

Recommended Posts

Why would an older couple of RCCL cruisers go on Carnival Paradise for a 3 day at spring break?

Well they had a "Rock the Soap" cruise!

My DW is the fan, I went to carry cases and take photos!

Things that stood out were...

Hit-Paris restaurant had trays.

Miss-Food more limited than rccl.

Hit-Security kept control at the pool.

Hit-Spring breakers very well dressed all evenings, a lot of long dresses & shirts with ties!

Miss-Poor service in dining room.(It was much better on our 4 day, guess it just depends where sit!)

Miss-Our cat.11 balcony had room for 2 chairs & a table, and room for 2 adults. But not at the same time!!!

Hit-Afternoon tea on a sea day was great!

Miss-Ensenada, Mexico!

Hit-Catalina Island, CA. (On 4 day only)

Miss-Turquoise eggs all over the ship!(See photo)

Overall, we had fun, but will stick to RCCL unless there is another "Rock the Soap" on Carnival.

If you are a "soap fan" here are some photos...

I think all their ships look like a cheap casino in Atlantic City... (forgive me Atlantic City)

Glitzzy?? Are you kidding me??? Not saying you can't have a great time on Carnival, but... who the hell decorates these things? It's horrid!

I agree... Isn't Ensenada the armpit of the world!!! I was laughing as we pulled up and saw all the old sunken boats off the side of us. I did enjoy Catalina too! Great little island!

The Atrium looks really nice. Maybe they are Faberge Eggs.;) eggs.http://www.stpetersburger.com/html/faberge_eggs.html

Youre correct! Thats actually exactly what inspired the designer when the ship was built.

OP, I agree with you about Ensenada, not a great cruise destination. I wasn't overly thrilled with Catalina for that matter. I guess I have just been spoiled by Caribbean ports.

So-so ports of call aside, our cruise on Paradise was very good. The ship was clean and well run, and the staff went out of their way to take care of a problem we had. I'm certainly not trying to recruit here, but some shouldn't be so hasty to judge a book by its cover.

Carnival is like floating Motel 6. I'd rather stay home than go on Carnival. Cheap cruises are just that, cheap.

Since you have never been on a Carnival Cruise, per your signature... your comment is baseless, not to mention incorrect!

Oh, most would prefer you stay home too!

I'm just laughing at the sight of those ugly eggs! DH and I originally had booked the Carnival Splendor to the Mexican Riviera, but after seeing those ugly pink polka dots all over the interior of the ship, I knew that I wouldn't be able to take it, so we decided to cancel and book with the Mariner. This will be our first cruise on RCCL, we have cruised with Carnival and I'm sorry to say, that the interior design does leave a bad taste in the mouth to say the least.

Interesting perspectives.

I have looked forward to each of my cruises, which included the decor! Heck, I have sailed on the Pride of Aloha and the Sensation, which are probably 2 of the brightest, colourful ships on the seas. The Carnival Sensation brings new meaning to "The Colour Purple" :)

But.. I'll say, we had a BLAST! We enjoyed the loud decor, accepting that it's part of the fun.. being different and all. If I wanted to look at walls and carpet that looked like my living room, I could easily stay home. So, decor is not a huge factor for me. I enjoy bowling, and we all know what the decor looks like in a bowling alley.. it's to be expected.

Now, if bright lights and bright colours are too much for you, then that's fine. Stick to the neutral colour ships only. Different strokes, right?

Funny opinion ... for me, if I'm safe, get decent food, and can stand sit and watch the ocean, I could really care less about the colors of the interior of the ship. A free cruise on a large mass-market line ... I wouldn't turn it down no matter who offered even if it wasn't my favorite.

Another person going with the "Want to be Snob" attitude.

What do you think they are going to do. Decorate the ship like the inside of your house? I'm sure that would be a winning motif....

We took our first Carnival cruise in November on the Pride - it was nothing like that - in fact I thought the ship was rather understated. I think it depends on the ship and what is important to you. We had a great cruise and the price was terrific.

It couldn't be called a "fun ship" if it was restrained in design elements and colors.

It isn't for everyone, but once you understand it is in keeping with their long-standing theme, it does make sense to see those eruptions of eggs, Eiffel Towers, urns, etc. in all kinds of bizarre ways.

If it really matters to you and you want muted colors and more conventional "Marriott Hotel" style of design, then stay with RCI, Celebrity, Princess or HAL. CCL sure isn't trying to pretend it is like the rest of the masses. Get Out There... Why Not? Have Fun. :)

Actually it would compared to what they did on the Splendor!

OP, you sound like DH and me - we also booked Paradise after RCI abandoned the 3/4 day market and were pleasantly surprised. The decor is horrid, but I could have forgiven them for that had the seats at the lounges been more comfortable.

As for the Cat 11 balconies, we had 5 out there for sailaway. We had to stack the chairs, but we managed. Fortunately, we are all friends.:D
