No compassion

I read it someplace that if you carry a purse keep it close in front of you... that way you will not lose your purse. I read it happened to another passenger in Carnival where her mother was robbed in broad daylight at a resturant seating the woman placed her shoulder strapped bag behind her seat and it was gone. with her passports, money childs medications etc.. well over 10,000.00 in that purse these people were foreigners and the one who was on the phone with the perpertrader was calling her to take snatch the purse, away. what is this world coming too.

That is why i am creating a bra and pantie where you can hold your money where you will not be able to carry a purse anymore. Wait its coming and by next year this time you will be able to carry your room key, credit card and money that no one get, they have to mug you first to get it. I developed this cause everytime i go on a cruise i get someone stealing from me... Now you know what I do... I leave the purse empty put the words in a big piece of letters SUCKER and leave nothing in it No keys, no money... nothing... I am develping this for socks too.

If you want 1 sample send me your email... only this lady not everyone. I am making these to protect ladies and gentlemen about robbers... those cities need to protect us, after all we put money into your pockets. but its not the cruise's fault this happened and I am very sorry this happened to you, but you need to be aware of this it can happen to anyone anywheres, so remember keep your purse close to you the next time and most of all if you are aware of somthing strange tell alot of people around you. they will be able to protect you.

The cruise ship is not going to do anything about this, its their jobs is to protect you, but not your personal belongings, but their thing is to make sure you have a good time that is why they have these cruises.

Email me and stay in touch

Red;)

they already have items that you wear under your clothes to hold valuables, etc and even sock with a zipper pockets, try magellans.com or travelsmith

I think you are right. I also remember reading that 20% of all lawsuits would be avoided if the defendants had apologized up front.

That said, I don't think the OP was blaming the cruise line at all and would have been happy with just a bit of sympathy. A little sad faced, "Oh, I'm so sorry that happened to you on your vacation" and a bit of chocolate sent to the cabin with a note is not an admission of guilt.

The cruise director said he was very sorry and they DID send chocolate (strawberries) to her cabin. It's not like they pushed her out of the way and spit on her! This is getting ridiculous. The robber did not get any of her stuff unless I misunderstood what she said. I am beginning to think it "ruined" the cruise for her son because of her reaction and not the actual incident

The worker who took her info should have gotten back to her, but he didn't. Time to move on. I shudder to think what the reaction would be if the robber had actually made off with her stuff.

Rala,

I totally agree with you. :)

Life is not always what we want. When it deals us lemons...lets make lemonade. :)

This had always worked for us and we have all that we could ever want. :)

I must of missed where the OP said they received chocolate strawberries from the cruise line. That little touch with a little bit of understanding might of made the OP a guest for life.

HI FUNTIMEX2

When I work my way through the crowd at Port Nassau...I usually move very quickly. I feel sorry for you but I am not surprised...Nassau is Nassau...my least favorite port. Apathy on the part of RCI and the local police will only serve to increase the crime rate. What happened to you is a microcosmic picture of the world today. Next time I am in Nassau...I will remember to stay onboard the ship.

LOL :o The comments I could make, but after all the Seinfeld comments already - I will pass. :D

LOL. I must say that the Bra and Panty combo does sound interesting. It also has a James Bond type of romantic twist to it. :)

You could say that is where most women keep their valuables.

Maybe she could name the combo:

The Double Oh Seven bra and panty combo. Also serves as a mobile storage unit. The bra and panty will explode in 90 seconds if you don't if you don't unhook the bra in the proper sequence.

Not really sure, but if I report something and someone says they will get back to me, they should. If the security officer played dumb with me the next day, I would of brought that up with his superior.

If he said he would get back, he should have. Why do some people need to defend the cruise lines at all costs?

I don't think anyone is defending the cruise line. The bottom line is two fold. First the security officer should not have said that he would get back to her. Secondly, the cruise ship has no responsibilty here, nor any legal juristdiction. This took place off the ship. If the poster wanted additional information she should have just called the Nassau Police directlty from her cabin, cell or when she got home. They have no obligation to discuss their investigation with Royal Caribbean. Royal Caribbean wasn't the victim. If Royal Caribbean screwed up, I'd more than happy to roll them under the bus. LOL

But in this situation, RCCL is in the clear other than the Security Guard opening his mouth.

And I also think that the security officer really meant to say was that the security office would get back to her, not him personally. He just passes the information along and goes about his business. He is just a Indian aboard a ship load of Chiefs.

I would take that job, I am a psychologist and would love to be paid to sail. And by the way, as a therapist, we do respond with compassion, but we also make people take responsibility for their own actions. It sounds like the OP is displacing his/her anger from the incident onto that of RCCL.

They do have people there that act as grief counselors for all the deaths that happen. I don't know if they are licensed people but they do exisit.

LOL. I think a person passing away is a lot different than a purse snatch. I don't think we need on board grief counselors for purse snatchings. :)

The ship's staff has no reason to follow up for you and they also have no reason to warn the passengers of anything. Everyone should know that when you disembark in a foreign land you must be very aware of your surroundings no matter how light it is or how many people are around. Unfortunately, you were a victim but you were not injured and you did get your bag back so let this be a lesson to be more careful next time. Please don't blame RCCL....they cannot be a babysitter for everyone.

Thanks to you for posting this. My 14 yr. old daughter and myself were on this cruise too and turned back after reaching the street in Nassau that night. We didn't see anything alarming, but it just didn't feel like the place for us at night, since we were traveling alone. I can see that Funtimex2 felt like the sympathy from RC was a bit superficial since they didn't send any kind of general warning about security out to the passengers the next morning. It wouldn't have had to be a huge alarm, mind you...just a general reminder would have been nice. We spent about 1/2 of our day at the Wyndham (thanks to these boards for the suggestion of buying a day pass there), and 1/2 of our day shopping, so I feel like we made good choices even not having the information about the crime in the area. Still,I do think that the general announcements in the morning could have included suggestions for smart touring/shopping in Nassau or any port, for that matter.

I think we all expect too much hand holding sometimes. I have flown into Nassau several times and stayed at hotels in Cable Beach and on Paradise Island. We have used arranged transportation and taken local jitneys into town. I don't ever recall be warned by the airlines or by the hotels to be "careful" where I go. Why should I expect any different from the cruise ship?

I have never had a problem in Nassau either(so I guess I'm a pro there too), but when the OP was told by the cruise line that they would get back to them about an incident and they didn't, well the ball is dropped. And RCCL blames the economy on their stock price? Guest service should be their #1 priority as this point!

We had a similar incident in Nassau, unfortunately my wife was injured and needed medical attention. First in a Nassau ER, (Ugh!) and follow up with ship's Dr. for the remainder of the cruise. (Disney)

The Ship's Dr told us basically what has been said by the previous posts here, ie: just what do you expect the ship to do?.

However she did tell us that the cruiseline carrys a tremendous amount of weight, primarliy with the harbor master in getting things done if need be. The threat being that if changes are not made, or requests met as in the case of my Wife, the cruiseline can and will drop the port from their itinerary. I quess if enough of these problems exist. And Nassau has a long, long list, according to what the Dr. told us.

I have tried to talk myself out of posting this but my emotion will not let me. I was on the Monach sailing April 13. We missed Coco Cay on Tue so we ported in Nassau that night which was good - I thought. My son and I got off and were walking to Senior Frogs and I was robbed under the lights with other people around! I screamed and he dropped my bag. I had a bruised spot on my wrist from the strap when he snatched my camera bag. The locals told me to call the police and make a report which I did. We were escorted back to the ship by the police and they talked with several locals along the way and received more information on the robber. When I boarded the ship I told a security guard and he took down the information and told me he would get back with me - even got my room number. When I say the guard the next day and inquired ~ he acted as if he did not know what I was talking about. Next disappointment ~ at the Crown and Anchor social I told the Cruise Director about it and his only reponse was I am sorry.... well Capt. Karen was on the other side behind me and she did not even acknowledge it! I know she heard me talking because she was just standing there. My reason for letting it be know was so that other passengers could be warned. There were no warnings.

Beware that there is no compassion from the staff. They could have atleast followed up on the police report on my behalf! That would have made me feel better.

This cruise was my son's high school graduation present. Party was spoiled and he was ready to come home.

It had nothing to do with the cruise line. It's not their problem nor their fault. There is NOTHING they can do about it. Get over it and move on.

Sorry, Lappy22, I agree with you about dropping the ball. I think sometimes people give meaningless platitudes not realizing that the recipient is taking them very seriously.
