Best Mini on Coral/Island

We were in D-712 on the Coral two years ago in Alaska and loved it. It is toward the aft of the ship, the balcony is fully covered (you can still sit outside if it is raining) and is a few doors away from the public aft balcony which is seldom used and is great for glacier watching as the ship turns in circles. As an added bonus, it is close to the laundry. We liked the location so much that the following year we went one deck up on the Island on a Panama Canal transit to C-708 where the balcony is half covered - which was good for getting out of the sun.

I was looking at D726 which has a partial aft view, but its only downside is that it is totally uncovered. Is this a bad choice for Alaska which will include Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier???:confused:

Since it is known to rain in the warmer months in Alaska, it might be best to get at least a partially covered balcony. In addition, if it is not raining the sun can be quite strong reflecting off the glaciers, snow and the water. Again, at least a partial covered balcony would help with the sun and the rain! We were on the Golden with a mini suite on the Dolphin deck for our Alaska cruise. We were not too happy about having a totally uncovered balcony. Now we only book minis on the Emerald deck on the regular Grand class ships. Island/Coral are "Baby Grands" in our opinion! :)

Which cabin do you think is the best mini on the Coral/Island? Why? If the itinerary makes a difference, it will be Alaska. Thanks for your input!

To the OP--We were very pleased with our Baja deck mini (B229) on the Coral last month. It was forward, and fairly close to the Bridge (We could see what they were doing on the Bridge as we went through the Panama Canal!). We had great views, and an almost 100% covered balcony. We were able to get some sun, and when we had a little rain we were dry!

Do not pick B503 - while location looks great on the deck plan, it is right across from a service door that caused awful noise for us during the cruise. It would start early in the morning with the housekeeping staff and their carts and then when the off loading of started we got no sleep that night.

During the day was okay but a.m. cleaning and night time turn down was horrible.

We have D712 on the Island for our Panama Canal cruise. Hopefully the same advantages will work for us.:D

Close to the laundry??? That's is so not going to happen.

If that is the last cabin then the balcony is exposed to the aft viewing section as well.

It rained for 3 days straight on our Sept Island cruise.

Island/Coral are identical.....

The lower deck with people standing is Emerald deck, Dolphin would be right above that and has the window washer basket there on either side.

We were in C503 (bumpout section) and loved it. The view was great and the balcony was protected from wind by the cabins in front of ours. I would advise against a totally uncovered balcony in Alaska. We looked down on Dolphin deck where people were trying to take photos in the rain with their cameras wrapped in plastic baggies. We were nice and dry on our balcony.

We have D711 starting June 15th. If you go before us don't leave a mess.:)

We do not go until 11/20....take good care of it for me!

Would love to hear your thoughts when you return.

Enjoy your cruise,

Erin

D711 is a nice cabin and in a great location. Jimmy the room steward took excellent care of us. Other members of our party had D709 as well and no issues there.

The Coral does have a very noticeable vibration when underway. I do not remember it as much when we were on the Crown. We were several decks higher so maybe that was it. The vibration is not an issue to us, just rocks you to sleep like a baby at night.

Enjoy this cabin.
