Booking a cruise while on a cruise

With Princess we pay 100.pp for a future credit to book a cruise- it only ties my money up for as long as I want. The reason to do this is I get a cheaper deposit--the 100.00 we prepaid is the deposit-- plus they give me a onboard credit.

firefly--last carnival we took was Liberty which is a conquest class ship- there ws no place to book he next cruise

Just took the Liberty May 30-June 6. It DOES have a future cruises desk a few steps from the casino on the Prominade. I was a hair away from booking a back to back on the last night. They gave me a rate that was way too high though. So, in my experience, there was no special rate or privelege.

I bought a next cruise cert last Sept I already used, and bought 3 more when I was on Conquest this past May I have yet to use.

how long are the certificates good for?

5 years, a long time compared to other cruiselines. I just had to cancel my Princess next cruise that ends next January, cause I knew I wasnt going to book anything on Princess between now and then.

The ONLY thing you get booking onboard at the future cruise desk is OBC. You dont get special rates or other priveleges, the rates are the same if you book onboard or buy the certificate to use later with your own PVP.

The OBC doesnt change the rate you pay, just gives you spending money on your cruise.

I am going on the Destiny in 4 weeks. And I know that I want to go again on the Valor at the end of March 2010. The price is good right now, so should I book now, or wait until I am on the Destiny to book? Do you still get any kind of OBC if you already have another cruise booked BEFORE you leave?

Destiny will not have a next cruise desk, none of the smaller ships have them. You can book at the purser's desk but you will not get anything extra for doing so. There is no advantage to waiting to book until you are on Destiny.

Carnival does it differently than Princess or RCL. If you decide to book after you come home, you pay the full deposit, then mail in the cert and its applied to your final payment. Someone else posted on a similar thread, to use it after final payment date, you pay in full, then they refunded the $100 (the amount you paid for the cert) to your credit card when they receive the original cert.

So let me get this correct. if i make my mind right then and there on which cruise i want to take. The deposit is only $100?? but if i go home to think about it i pay full deposit then they credit the $100 at a later date? thanks

No, as I said the ONLY benefit is OBC, (i.e. you do not get reduced deposit or prices).

If you buy the certificate it costs $100 (this is not saying if you book your deposit will be reduced to $100).

Your deposit is the same.

If you buy the certificate to bring home and book the certificate costs $100, and it is NOT applied to your deposit. You mail it in and its applied to your final payment or if you made final payment you will get $100 refunded.

On the cruise already booked BEFORE you leave, if the price hasnt gone up, the rep can rebook it and put on OBC. If the price has changed then he cant do anything.

I saw one gal before me who had a cruise booked he was able to add the OBC, for my cruises, all mine were more expensive at the time or booked thru a TA so he couldnt touch them ... so OBC could not be added afterwards.

I will soon be on the Splendor...If I choose to book a future cruise while on the Splendor (instead of buying the $100 future cruise credit and taking it home) are you saying that all I will get is an immediate OBC (how much?) on my current Spendor cruise and no OBC on my future cruise and no $100 off my final payment on my future cruise? and I will have to pay the full deposit for that future cruise right then and there? I am sorry, but I can't find info on Carnival's website to explain this...thank you!

when I said in some instances you can get OBC on a future already BOOKED cruise .... I didnt mean one that you have already left on, no.

I meant one that you previously booked, but have not taken that the price hasnt gone up.

yes, I understand how the FCC works, but I am asking about booking a future cruise while I am on the Splendor, and what perks do we get? Someone said all you get is OBC, okay, is that OBC on your current cruise? or the future cruise you just book? or both? How much? Thanks for any responses,

If you have already left on Splendor NO, you cant get a OBC. .... A future cruise is one you have not left on.... its still in the future.

It has to be a cruise you have not taken or in the process of.... a cruise you are on, is not in the FUTURE.

I dont know how else to say it, two of us have posted NO, you cant get it applied to a cruise you are presently taking. Maybe ask your question another way, if we are not understanding, but sounds like you keep asking about getting OBC on a cruise you are ON, not one in the future.

You will get nothing on the cruise you are on.

As it says in other posts ... you get $50 on a 5 day cruise, $75 OBC on a 6 day, $100 OBC on a 7 day future cruise .... all the way UP TO $200 depending on the length of the future cruise you are booking .... you can book onboard and get it applied when you book.

This is what threw me^

All I am asking is, what is the DIFFERENCE between booking the future cruise right then and there on the Splendor OR just buying the $100 FCC? You said the difference was OBC (I assumed that meant OBC on the current cruise-I understand I was wrong).

I understand EXACTLY how the FCC works, you pay $100, then go home w/the FCC and book your cruise then send it in for a $100 reduction on final payment and $100 (for 7 day cruise) OBC on that future cruise.

BUT, if you are standing at the Future cruise desk, and you decide to book a future cruise right then and there...what happens? Is there an FCC involved at all? Obviously, if you are standing right there you could just hand them the FCC (no snail mail) and then, can't they apply the $100 discount right away, possibly to reduce the deposit you pay? or is the FCC not applicable at all if you are booking immediately onboard?

I hope this is more clear!:o Thanks!
