Point 'n shoot digital camera with a viewfinder that has superzoom

Can someone help me with this, please? So many instances in the bright sun that the LCD screens just don't work out. Don't know why they can't make it more readily available.

Kodak has made a number, many of which I have owned. I now have their Z1015 IS with 15x zoom. Their newest is the Z980 with 24x zoom. I also have Pentax new X70 with 24x zoom. Allk of the major camera manufacturers have a point and shoot with long zoom. Check them out at Best buy, or try one of the online photo stores, like bhphotovideo.com. EM

All of mine have optical viewfinders as well as the screen. there are lots out there. EM

Seems like the one's with the viewfinders are the larger cameras. Was looking for one of the smaller point and shoot models. Haven't been able to locate a smaller version with a viewfinder.

Superzoom, compact, and no viewfinder you are asking for a lot :D If you must have a viewfinder then look at the Canon SD*** line, many have viewfinders. Looks like Kodak as suggested by the other poster offer them, but none can be considered compact. But as far as IQ they are very middle of the pack if not worst these days. Sad for such an iconic American company. Looks like they will not make the transition from film to digital.

We've had the Olympus SP-550 with 18x zoom for a couple of years and have been satisfied. It's not truely compact but very comfortable to hold and has an optional viewfinder. We originally selected this camera because we wanted wide angle and zoom capability.

I have a Nikon Coolpix P80. It has 18X wide angle zoom, electronic viewfinder and is touted as 'the world's most compact super telephoto camera'. I think it fits the criteria you are looking for. I love my little camera, it is very easy to use and takes pretty good photos.

And, sadly, you won't. About the biggest zoom you'll find in a compact with a viewfinder is 4x or maybe 5x. One big issue is that matching the field of view of a superzoom with the tiny lenses in the little peephole viewfinder just wouldn't be usable. At 10x, it would be like whale-watching with a pair of Barbie binoculars.

 

Personally, I have never (ok, twice out of 9000 or so shots) used the little viewfinder on my Canon SD800. Modern LCD are bright, clear and on the better cameras, very resistant to glare.
