How is November Weather in Europe

We are looking at the 14 day "Footsteps of History" from Venice to Barcelona departing November 10, 2010.

What can we expect that time of the year as far as weather ?

That voyage has something like 14 Ports of call..... it seems like we should see plenty of things.... even if the stay in each port is only about 8 hours or so.

Thanks for help.

November is considered off peak in the Med because it is the rainy season. It will also be cool.

You can get the weather particulars, for any of your ports, for any time of the year, at:

www.holiday-weather.com

When cosidering a late season cruise, you will also want to determine how many of the ports are accessed via tender (i.e. you get ashore in launches, rather than the ship docking).

There was a great controversy, last year, when one of those late cruises missed quite a number of ports because the captain judged that the sea was too rough to operate the tenders safely. As you can see, it is a complicated business:

On the particular cruise that you are considering, I believe that Hvar, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Messina & Palma are tender ports. It can go either way in La Spezia & Provence, and I believe that all the rest are docking ports.

I went on the Celebrity Century on a 10 day cruise November 10th. I found the weather to be wonderful. The weather was mid 70's each day, we also did not have the huge crowds. I plan on booking another cruise in November, (when they become more available) we had maybe an hour of rain in Rome in the am, that was it.........July would be very crowded and very hot.

We looked into that cruise also, but we decided to go in July instead. It's also 14 ports, very similar. I did some research on the ports and for us, November looked too cool and wet.

laurieb,

Which one did you book ?

We wanted to do the cruise at a lower than "peak" time to avoid the crowds. Our kids are old enough to stay alone so we can travel once school starts for the year.

Our first choice was September.... then October.

I considered the November 10th sailing thinkng that the weather would definately be cooler, but still not too cold. I dodn't know about the rainy part.

But as it turns out, one of our group just realized they can't do the Nov.10th date becasue of a work commitment.. so I have to find another date.

Thanks for all the comments and knowledge.... it's great.

We're going to be on that, as is one other person... Come on over to the rollcall :)

We were in Europe last November and I found the weather beautiful. Cool, but not terribly cold, often overcast but rarely rainy. We got lucky, though. We missed flooding in Venice by about a week.

Well... if November "can be" cold and rainy, and July "can be" hot and crowded.... what is the best time of the year to do the Med cruise ?

We are fairly flexible... nothing around the first part of July, and not the first two weeks of November.... other than that, I think we're OK.

We are on the 7/10/10 cruise. Best month for us. We were considering September but it was a little spendy for us. We don't mind the heat, and will deal with crowds as we need. I was in europe in July MANY years ago and survived. We've cruised French Polynesia in their summer months and have had no problems with the high heat and humidity, I can't see the Med being that much worse.

Excellent... Thanks for that info.

Off I go to look at itineraries for May, June & Oct.

I'm partial to October myself... Fall is my favorite season.

I cannot take the heat & humidity anymore so I like the shoulder seasons best or cooler destinations.

One year in Athens it was in the 60's end of April did a cruise/stay & 2 weeks later in Athens it was 90's with 90 % humidity...too hot for me!

Hope you find something to suit you

I have made another choice... the Mediterranean Tapestry sailing April 28, 2010 on the Regatta.

I think the weather is faily nice in April too... and it's the end of April so it shoul dbe a little warmer.

The itinerary is not as nice as the other sailing in November, but still very interesting.

I did find a TA using the Oceania web site to locate one of their "Specialists". I have already gotten a quote and waiting to get clearence from the other parties involved to book it.

The agent said it was 100% refundable outside of 90 days prior to departure, so that make it easier to decide to book it while the promo is going on.

Yes!! That's the cruise we booked two weeks ago.:) When it is definite with the rest of your party, please come join the roll call I started.

How big is your party?

Looking forward to a cure to my roll call loneliness,

Pam

You might also want to get some quotes from on line travel agents. I used an Oceania suggested TA from their site for our first cruise and they were a nightmare. They were totally unresponsive and didn't offer anything in the way of a discount, OBC, etc. They actually cost me money by not notifying me of the fuel surcharge. The online TA that was recommended from a friend is GREAT and I saved a lot of money.

Hi Pam.

It is 4 of us ( 2 couples ) and if we do book it, I'll be over to your roll call.

Does Oceania do the CC "Meet-n-Greet" like some other lines if we have a large enough group ?

Terrier1,

Thanks fro the suggestions. That is exactly what I did... I requested quotes from several of the on-line booking agencies a day ago. Most have not responded yet, and one of them that did, was $200 HIGHER than the rate I can get directly from "O".

The agency I found on the O web site got back to me within 20 minutes and answered all of my questions and is standing by to book whatever I need.

I think I found a winner.

I will try to wait patiently!:)

Our first-ever cruise was Oceania Nautica Istanbul to Athens last September; the second was Oceania Nautica Athens to Rome in June; we're working our way west across the Mediterranean!

We had a CC meet in the Horizons lounge with about 35 people on our June cruise with appetizers provided by Oceania and buy your own drinks before dinner one evening. It was great to meet the people we had corresponded with electronically for several months, a very fun group organized by the infamous (of the wonderful photograph postings) StanandJim.

CintiPam,

Sorry.... bad news.... our friends can't do the April 28th sailing because of a work commitment.

We are thinking of the same ship and itinerary but on the Sept.17th departure.

But the Sept. 17th sailing is $500 MORE than the April sailing... I guess they must consider September "Prime/High" season.

AT $1000 more per cabin, it may make us turn to Azamara.... but we'll see what the TA can come up with for us..... They had orginally come up with a few "perks" and if they can do the same for the Sept. sailing, we may go for it.....

we were really excited about the September cruise but like you decided it was just too much. We also looked in to Azamara, there are 2-7 day cruises, a b to b that looked pretty good, and the price was very good, but they didn't hit some of the ports we really wanted to go to and went to a couple that didn't interest us. That's why we chose the July 10th sailing, the ports are perfect! sure it will be hot, but when we are on the ship it will be cool, and sure it will be crowded onshore, but the ship will have no more pax in July than in September, and the price is way better! Email me if you would like, laurieb97304@yahoo.com and I will give you more detals on why we chose how we did.
