Promised granddaughter cruise to Disney World..never done this.

As an incentive to do well the next two years in school, I promised our teen granddaughter a cruise with her pap and I out of Baltimore to Disney World for graduation. I guess I should have checked with someone before I did this! Has anyone done this? Does Disney even sail out of Baltimore? When you get to Fl., do you stay on the ship to sleep? How much time do you have for the park? Sorry, I know I have a lot of questions. If anyone has ever done this, please fill me in. We sailed Disney eons ago but not to Fl.

Disney only sails out of Florida.....

They also do not sail to Disney World..... Disney World is in Orlando and does not have waterways to get to it. The port is in Port Canaveral out by the space center.

Disney does offer transpertation to get to Disney World....

You need to read some more posts here and see what they have to offer.

3 day cruise

4 day cruise

7 day cruise

a lot to look at........

Sorry but Disney does not sail out of Baltimore to Disneyworld. However, you have a lot of other options. Since I'm assuming your grand daughter is older I am sure she would have a wonderful time on a Royal Caribbean ship or Carnival Ship out of Baltimore. These are very kid-friendly cruise lines. While Disney is a great experience if you want to do that you have to go to Florida and start there. If you want to start and end in Baltimore that's some of your other options. Either way, I'm sure she'll love it.

Thanks to all for the information. I guess I should have paid attention to geography in school! I didn't know ships couldn't sail to DW.

DCL doesn't sail out of Baltimore and probably won't in the near future. To keep your promise to your granddaughter you should consider a Land/Sea cruise out of Florida. These are three days at WDW and four at sea on a Disney ship or the other way around. You'll need to fly to Florida for these.

Disney sails out of Port Canaveral Fl. From what I have read they will also sail out of LA when the Disney Dream (one of 2 new ships being built) is ready in 2011.

Disney does offer a land and sea package where you can do either 3 days at Disney world and a 4 day cruise or vise versa.

Hope that helps

First off, Disney does not sail out of Baltimore. Carnival does and they make a stop at Port Canaveral which approximately 1 hour from Disney World.

Disney sails out of Port Canaveral and they sail to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. In 2011 they will have a new ship called the Dream.

You can do a 3 or 4 night cruise on Disney and package it with a 3 or 4 night Disney World vacation.

Disney World is in Central Florida, not on the ocean.

You will have to fly to Orlando, Florida. You can book this trip through Disney Cruise Line or a Travel Agent. Sounds like you are interested in a Land and Sea vacation. You can choose 4 days at sea or 3 days at sea. You can do the Land portion (Disney Parks) before or after your cruise. You can choose just to cruise to for 7 days and skip the parks.

The first time I went to Disney World I booked the land vacation. We stayed at a Disney resort for 7 days. The second time I booked a Land and Sea vacation. I stayed ten days. I arrived on a Friday and the following Thursday I boarded the Wonder. Seven days at a Disney Resort for my Land portion and than 3 days at Sea. Disney also offers Port transfers for a fee. Disney has there own terminal at the Airport.

You do sleep on the ship as it sails to the Bahamas and Disney's Private Island, Castaway Cay. You have as much time at the parks for the days you are on "land" obviously depending on park hours. I highly recommend ordering a free Disney Cruise planning dvd from their website. If you happen to go past a Book store it would be a good idea to look through the book called PassPorter's Disney Cruise Line (they also have a WDW book). It sure helped me out when I was clueless and did not know about Cruise Boards.

I think your teenage grandaughter will have an amazing time. My daughter is 17 and loves Disney. (Me too)

I hope I was able to help out a bit even though this post is about 3 weeks past your original post date. :o

It is funny how many people think the Cruise actually pulls up to Cinderella's castle. I have had major discussions with people over this.

I do remember there was once a commercial that showed the Disney cruise docked by the Magic Kingdom.

I think they were trying to show that you could have the best of both worlds. The Cruise and the World.

I hope you are able to take your grand daughter on that cruise with the two of you. That would be a very special vacation.

Enjoy,

Dawn

Sorry, but the Disney Magic and Wonder sail (almost) exclusively out of Port Canaveral, Florida. There are a few exceptions for the Magic, when she sail out of London (Dover), England.

Lines sailing out of Baltimore are:

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival - Bahamas

Royal Caribbean - Bermuda

Royal Caribbean - Canada and New England

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival - Caribbean

my 2 cents..we did disneyworld before a cruise...4th or 5th time there but first we stayed on site...they have buses from Orlando airport which makes it easy....internal transportation in disney world makes the stay easy..missed having a car a bit but not much

they have a car rental place on site..they pick you up to get your car..we did so and drove to Ft lauderdale (about 4 hours) to meet our cruise

choices out of Ft lauderdale and Miami for cruises are amazing...you should be able to get a good deal on a nice ship

unless you granddaughter MUST have a disney cruise I would not recommend it...ITS FULL OF KIDS.....teenagers likely more impressed with acting grown up..dressing for dinner...many cruise ships have teen clubs with booze free dance clubs and the like....probably a better choice

your biggest problem will be to pick a cruise...get your granddaughter involved in the planning..part of the fun

"unless you granddaughter MUST have a disney cruise I would not recommend it...ITS FULL OF KIDS....." you have GOT to be kidding!!! I have a friend who took teenage daughter on a DCL Wonder Cruise and the girl LOVED it! Finally on the last night they TOLD her she had to have dinner with them at least ONCE on the cruise! She was at Aloft every day! Went to the volleyball thing on CC and in short had a spectacular time. I have been on 5 DCL cruises both with and without children (grandchildren) and lved it every time. I NEVER saw any teen 'out of sorts' for the entire cruise. Our granddaughter wants to go back just for the Fish Extender exchange!.

if a teenager is totally into disney they will have a good time on a disney cruise...she who must be obeyed loves disney so she would be okay...personally I don't like rodents..talking or not...but being the good sport I am have been to world 4 or 5 times and land about 14.....the focus of a disney cruise is on kids...duh...just suggesting you make sure that is what your granddaughter wants....and not just what she is agreeing with her beloved grandparents......I just know that as a teenager I would have been embarrassed to have been taken on a disney cruise (no matter how much I actually would have liked it...cool factor)

Disney cruises do not go to the park. The park is land locked outside of Orlando. Disney does not cruise out of Baltimore either. You can combine a Disney cruise with a park visit, but the port is an hour from the parks so the cruise is either in the beginning or on the end of your trip to the parks

You have a lot to learn about Disney Cruise Line. WhHile it is true that they are very good at catering to kids, they are equally adept at catering to adults Many cruisers are adults without children. There are adult only areas of the ship and Castaway Cay, their private island and an adult only restaurant. Many of the enrichment programs on the 7-day or longer cruises are geared more for adults as well.

As far as the OP, I think he got the idea. DCL does not go to WDW. Asked and answered.

I find the use of the term 'geek factor' as insulting. I have gone on 6 Disney Cruises and I do not consider myself a geek. I just like to have fun and Disney provides the kind of fun I enjoy. I don't need Casinos and I don't need bawdy and crude entertainment. My teenage children have joined us on three of those cruises and trust me, they do not dream of pixie dust in their sleep. We are admitted Disney fans, but to define that as geekdom sounds to me like those people that assume all fans of Star Trek walk around with Spock ears. Different strokes for different folks. I do agree with your recommendation that the grandfather find out if this is what his granddaughter would enjoy, but you could have made the point without the condescending attitude.

adults liking disney is geeky...so is adults liking star trek (guilty here but mostly because of 7 of 9)....but its ok to be geeky..revel in the geekiness...own it..love it....its not an insult

this board is about a grandmother treating her grandchild...I just wanted to make sure Disney is what the grandhchild wants

To the best of my knowledge, DCL has never sailed from Baltimore to anywhere.

If a ship were to sail from Baltimore to Florida they would dock in one of a few places but none of them would be Disney World. That is over an hour inland from the closest port. You would have to get off the ship, drive/bus etc to WDW and then stay at a hotel on property (or nearby).

The most common Disney cruises leave from Port Canaveral and sail either to the Bahamas (3 and 4 night cruises) or to the Caribbean (7 nt cruises). In both cases you would stay on the ship each night - but again, you'd have to get inland and get a hotel to see Disney World.

Best wishes!

ETA - why do I only see the original post on page one and nothing else and then page 2 has 2 posts that are fighting about geeks??!! What does that have to do with the OP's questions?

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem on page 1.

Been frustrating since the post was originally started.

We see the problem and our resident geeks are working on it, full propeller-beany ahead.

UPDATE:

The geeks and nerds were all over it but it took a intuititive leap from a propeller-head dweeb to fix it.
