  1. This is for Dani, my young life in Pennsylvania. To keep in perspective, I was born in 1943. My dad and his brother operated a small dairy farm in the foothills of the mountain range that runs across western part of the state. They sold milk and eggs in the town. To expand , they bought an additional 70 acre farm about 4 miles away. It was located on top of a hill, and it was called Hilltop. the farm was landlocked, meaning it had no public roads on its border, so access was a right of way through an easement through neighboring property. The farm kouse was built after the civil war. It was built on a spring, so there was water. Most farm houses were usually with a spring located nearby for their water. The house had no electricity, there was a coal cookstove in the kitchen, and a coal stove on the second floor for heat. I think we used some sort of gas powered lamps for lights. And the house had never been painted, so the sides were just weather beaten wood. And , to do your business, there was a good old fashioned outhouse close bye. US congress had a bill called the Rural Electrification Act, which helped to get electric to the house. Dad's uncle was a plumber, he installed a pump in cistern that stored the water from the spring, and built an indoor bathroom directly above, along with an electric water heater. Also. an oil fired furnace and baseboard heat. Because of the remote location, a 1000 gallon oil tank was buried in the yard, so it could be filled in the summer, and if it did run low in winter, usually one more deliver took car of it when the weather permitted. The house had all termite damage repaired, it was insulated and siding was installed and painted, and all of the windows and doors replaced. And of course, had to have a septic tank and leach field installed. The dairy farm itself had a spring and cistern in a field high enough to provide pressure for the farm, al though it eventually proved not enough for the dairy operation,. so I think that he eventually had to drill 2 wells. And at Hilltop, the spring became unreliable, and a well is drilled there also.
  2. I'm curious, were all of the dining rooms open on Oasis. I have cruised 8 times on Allure this year, and initially deck 4 was not open, and it was terrible, but the last cruise, it was open, and it was like it used to be. I had no issue at all.
  3. US and Canada are large countries, and we have a lot of people living in more rural areas where public utilities do not supply water and sewer service. AS a result, people usually drill wells for water , and install septic systems to take away the waste. The design of these systems is set by the public health department to insure that bad stuff from the output doesn't make its way into the water supply.
  4. That has not been our experience this year at PE , 8 cruises. This is not the normal experience.
  5. I cannot help but wonder if the wifi network onboard the ships can handle the increased demand.
  6. That is what they said when Oasis started using O3B. Did not happen to all ships.
  7. I think OP wants to wake up and go outside and see the sun rise. I think that the displays near the elevators will show the sunrise time for the next day.
  8. The head water should have seen this and addressed it.
  9. Anybody that asks. We go through the closed door, and if asked, just show the card.
  10. I think Oasis is too big for Bermuda anyway. They had enough trouble with Quantum. If it could go, there would have been summer cruises there.
  11. @h20skibum we are so sorry to hear about issues with your daughter. WE are with you in spirit, and will keep you in our thoughts.
  12. I would imagine guest services or medical can provide a pair.
  13. What is unusual is that Royal doesn't normally have a ship in Tampa for the summer. But, we have family in that area , and it has been growing a lot in the last few years, and especially now with a big migration into a lot of Florida. Tampa is on the west coast of the state, while we are on the east coast, less than an hour north of Ft Lauderdale.
  14. I'm surprised the concierge did not commandeer one of the elevators from 17 down with their magic card that gives them complete control of the elevator.
  15. That has been our experience too. Crossings that stop at the Canary Islands take a more southerly route, as opposed to the Azores. Much more comfortable. Recently, we have seen the big ships do a straight shot across with no stops. Haven't done one, so cannot comment on them. We are talking the later crossings , mostly in November, which come to the southern ports. There are also the crossings around Labor day for the New England season, did one and had no issues there.
  16. If you tap on the top middle button, you should see a screen with the itinerary, and at the bottom is a place to change sailing date.
  17. But they had to open them to all passengers, not just the ones with gold cards. They gold cards were not getting them when they were much cheaper.
  18. I saw that also. But the price is significantly more than pre shutdown, and the Coco Cay prices seem very high also. Before the only way to get one without a gold card to to ask the concierge onboard, which is when they would know if there were any left, which we had pretty good success with doing. Now it looks like they are first come, gold card not required.
  19. On our last cruise it was a big draw about 5 in the afternoon. Most of the tables outside the Pub were jammed with pizza eaters. Especially teens.
  20. That' too bad. He always remembered us when we showed up. I believe his daughter was in Medical school. Some of those guys ended up working on the ship.
  21. Since they loaded our free drinks on our sea pass card, we rarely go to the lounge for happy hour. We will become Pinns in January, it has been some time coming, and I look forward to the boarding in the Pinn line, and the free internet. We will see if there are any other benefits that we would use.
  22. I don't think they are frayed, I think those are the light lines they initially throw to the dock, so the dock workers can drag the big mooring lines out.
  23. Maybe she had a string of bad ones that day. Most of the Pinns I have met are pretty low key individuals. But I have seen some that look like they think they are pretty special. Like walking around the pool deck during the day with the pin attached to their tshirt for all to see. I don't want to be that person.
  24. WE had cans on one of our early cruises this year, but then the bottles came back, and never saw cans again.
