  1. Either the passenger count for the QM2 2023 world cruise in the form of solo ladies is almost zero or Cunard is going the cheap route. On pre-covid TAs of 7 days they had 6 Gentlemen Hosts and on former world cruises they had 8.
  2. US immigration seems to have a formula in place to deal with people arriving by ship in all of their ports. The larger the number of passengers, the fewer number of agents sent to process them.
  3. It used to be a tradition to paint the funnels black on ships of a royal line when the monarch passed. I wonder if Cunard will do this for the Queen Elizabeth and keep them black for a full year. Also will all of the crew on the Queen Elizabeth wear a small black ribbon of their uniforms?
  4. Let us not write her off just yet. I believe she has a good ten years of rule to go before retiring
  5. So happy we moved our 2023 QM2 world cruise to 2024. Hopefully by then all of the silliness will have dissipated.
  6. Fully agree that the interesting action is in the Britannia Dining room. That is why I thought the grills to be rather insular. Do like the size of the cabins but in as much as I am not a stay at home kind of guy when on board the size of the cabin really is immaterial. And having a very broad range of restaurants on shore, I do not require more than line on the table, Smartly attired wait staff , decent service and food.
  7. I think you are reading way too much onto he post. Relax and enjoy the grills. Maybe if we are both on the same cruise sometime, we can have a meal together. I realize that I am not allowed to dine "above the salt" but you can come below the salt for a bite. We look forward to seeing you
  8. Just commenting from personal observation and chatting with Grill maitre de' over time.
  9. That has not been my experience on board Cunard. The Britannia folk are for the most part experienced cruisers and know what to expect so they have few questions to ask here. With Cunard's push to sell the up scale cabins, they have attracted many who have no idea what they are getting into as it is beyond their normal lifestyle on shore hence the numerous posts from the expensive seats.
  10. Guess I need to spend more time with reviews than in the area where actual questions are asked. Thanks for the direction.
  11. Good defense Hattie. But more Britannia is really needed for balance if balance is even a consideration.
  12. Would love to read more about life in Britannia class rather than just Club. PG and QG. I am sure others would like that also.
  13. Always loved to see the photos of the longest cruisers by number of days. Recognized many from the QE2 days
  14. No weight limits on what you wear on the plane. Simply wear the blazer or suit dress shirt and one of the ties. Problem solved and most likely you will get an upgrade on the plane for looking like you do not belong in third class any longer.
  15. Is there a lounge where thee is a piano player that plays quiet jazz and other "Old" favorites?
  16. In the day when millions worked in downtown NYC, it was a deli term for the fast order folks in the am to tell the kitchen someone ordered a cream cheese and nova scotia salmon on a toasted bagel.
  17. You basically figured it out. It is an old NYC deli term for ordering a cream cheese, nova scotia salmon on a toasted bagel. And thanks for confirming that I can get it in pieces and assemble it myself in the dining room.
  18. What are the minimum and maximum bets allowed for black jack? Are the majority of blackjack dealers male or female? Another question that was not answered on a previous post. Is there a lounge that features a piano player that plays quiet jazz and other tunes?
  19. Who really cares any more. You make whatever statement you care to make with what you wear and the rest of the passengers will either agree or avoid. Very simple these days.
  20. Don't know which line you have booked for the world cruise but I have taken as a solo male a world cruise on Cunard and it worked quite well. (I am also rather shy and do not readily mix well). Cunard is excellent at setting up dining tables for singles (ask for a table for 8 - 10). Generally they assign by general age. Cunard also has a single meet and greet every morning in one of the alcoves in the buffet area (not many attend but you might look in early at one). They also have a singles meet and greet with the gentlemen hosts (they should be back on board now that Covid has past). Then in the evening in the Queens Room there is dancing every night and if you are a mind, the gentlemen hosts are there to dance with you. Be sure to sit at one of the small tables right on the edge of the dance floor. Hiding in the back will not get you a dance. If by chance, you have booked the 2024 Cunard QM2 world cruise look for the "odd couple" -( my brother and I) at the age of 80 and 84 we will be doing the full 123 days, NYC - NYC and will be closing the disco at 3 am many an evening. Now if you are not on Cunard, I have no ideas other than every line has numerous solos passengers and with rare exception, they all make a effort to help you get into the swing of a world cruise. Enjoy no matter what line you have booked. A world cruise is a fabulous experience.
  21. And again two more questions. In as much as we will be sailing out of New York does the main dining room offer a "Snowy Nova on a toasted B" on the breakfast menu? Is there a piano bar where the pianist plays softer tunes?
  22. Thank you. This response was the most complete, but also thanks to all who provided information. I am looking forward to the sailing. No plans to spend extra for meals as I dine out at home on a frequent basis.. Just looking forward to having to do nothing but rest and be served in a nice place.
  23. I enjoy dining alone sometimes and find trying to meet up on a daily basis takes up too much of my time. Plus I am a solo straight male and have in the past found that to be a turn off for sharing with groups or couples. So I prefer many times to dine alone and not in the buffet. So, can I dine as a solo in the paid specialty places? And can I simply show up at the door of the free places and ask to be seated by myself?
  24. One more question - Are there any restrictions for a solo diner in any of the restaurants or can one make a reservation for one is the specialty places and just show up in the free ones?
