  1. I was sure that the whole "it's a safety hazard" thing was a story they made up so that they didn't have to upgrade their electrical system or something. But lo and behold it's a true thing. It really is dangerous and it can cause harm to the ship. Today I learned.

I guess I'll be bringing the one I have without any surge protection.

Technical Evidence, finally. This I can follow. Not just because 'someone' said so.

    Have a nice day.

  2. Even a pool using a salt generator pool needs a dollop of liquid chlorine and acid on occasion. Also the plates are a PITA to clean with acid.

We purchased a home with a salt water pool 2 years ago. Checking chemicals weekly, I have only added salt so far. Nothing I have read mentions adding liquid chlorine at any time. Have not needed to clean the plates, and they are about 6 years old.

Am I missing something, or just been lucky?

  3. Really? I'm hoping we have one. We do use the fridge when it's in the cabin. I was going to buy the case of water, but without a fridge to put it in I didn't see the point.

Bring a collapsible cooler in your luggage, ask, and tip, your room steward to keep it stocked with ice for your water bottles. We sailed Sunshine September 2015, aft extended cabin deck 9 I think. Our steward kept ours well stocked.

  4. I'm not sure I fully comprehend the usefulness of a recommended item from early on in this thread - the collapsable cooler... Are folks using these to take snacks/drinks on their port excursions to avoid pricey offerings? Or is there something else I'm missing?

We use ours to keep bottled water iced down and cold in the room. Room stewards keep it filled with ice when asked politely. Of course, they get a generous tip.

  5. We cruised last September on the Sunshine, right thru a rain storm and 50 knot winds at night, aft extended cabin. Never noticed any rocking of the ship. I went out on deck during a lull to take night photos of the ship all lit up. Beautiful. Just the ship, no passengers out besides me.

  6. My husband won a free oceanview cabin and a seat in the $100,000 grand finale slot tourney on the Dream. We live in Florida and the cruise is out of NOLA. trying to see if it's worth the airfare and hotel cost. Anyone know how many people are included and how they split the winnings? Top 5, 10, 50, etc.? Also, does anyone know how much it costs to enter since I may want to buy a seat for myself. How many days does it last?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Probably a lot cheaper to drive. Only 9.5 hours of drive time.

  7. I know Carnival is trying to put Guys on all of their ships and the Splendor just came out of dry dock with no Guys.. So my question is... Does anyone think they will put a Guys on the Splendor and maybe a time frame? I really want Guys!

Also does anyone have an updated photo gallery of the Splendor after the recent dry dock changes? TYIA!

On the Sunshine last September, we had Guy's. Wasn't impressed. Wasn't bad, just nothing special about it. It was a burger, no more, no less.

  8. Sailing out of NOLA for the first time in October.

Do you guys recommend the ship transfers from airport at $23.50 each way or a taxi? Are there private shuttle companies for less $?

    Gina

$23.50. Is that per person or however many you can stuff in a vehicle? It's about 17 miles, 30 minute drive, depending on time of day.
