  1. We just sailed from POM and flew into FLL. There were 4 of us, so i knew we needed something a little bigger. And, we had our daughter(13) and niece(12), so i thought something other than the ole airport shuttle was in order. We also needed the obligatory grocery stop for wine, soda and Red Bull. After some searching here, I tried Larrys Limos. I rang them up less than 2 months before sailing, they quoted 140 which included a gratuity for the driver. No deposit or prepay was needed.

Fast forward to 4-21. We got an email saying that due to work on the Skyride, they were pushing our check-in time back by 30 min. When we landed, i had a text from our driver Ricardo saying to let him know when we got through baggage etc. Well, when that black stretch Lincoln rolled up, the girls went crazy!!

It was so nice to just sit back, relax and not have to worry about traffic. We stopped at a Publix, i grabbed some beverages. There was some waters and sodas for us and a tv radio set-up. I have ridden in limos before but I must say, it was pretty sweet rolling up to the port and jumping out of a stretch. Ricardo helped us with our bags, he swiped my card and he was off to safely transport other wayward travelers around southern Florida.....

The moral here... pay a few extra doll-hairs and treat yourself, dont forget your wine and sodas. And in the immortal words of Rick James, "It's a celebration bitches, enjoy yourself!"

  2. I have tried the gps only but it wouldnt load the map. We went to Belize last year and i downloaded some maps. When we got to the port, i pulled up the map, flicked gps "On" and i had some navigation. I do think it would not be helpful if you want something to work while sailing. But you could use it off ship, in ports if you download the maps. I am referring to google maps....

  3. Try to get a cruise that goes to Grand Cayman. That was the first port on our first cruise, our daughter was 9. We went to the turtle farm and we all loved it! We booked through Carnival, the ride over was included and we got a lunch too. There was snorkeling in a big lagoon pool. There was another normal pool with some water slides. So, i have a feeling that your son would love it. Next time we get to Grand Cayman we want to do the stingrays. That excursion always gets good reviews. Have fun!!

And, we had our daughter(13) and niece(12), so i thought something other than the ole airport shuttle. We also needed the obligatory grocery stop for wine, soda and Red Bull. 5. We had a spa cabin on the Magic and LOVED it! I really like saunas, so I mostly did those. The heated loungers felt great on the back! DW liked the thalassotherapy pool/tub. The different toiletries are nice too. I found it to be a nice place to relax without a bunch of other mofo's all up in your biz.

  6. Yes, shops and bars are open. Take the water taxi to the first stop. It is on the first street behind the water front and there are signs too. And if you still cant quite locate it, get a 2.00 beer and just ask someone..... everyone we met was super nice!! Be sure to try the guavaberry place too.

  7. We just returned from our cruise and one of our ports was St Kitts. My Dad went golfing so he wanted something that my Mom could do with us. We signed up for the Scenic Train and bus sitaution. This was our(dw, dd 13 and my) 4th cruise and my parent's 23ish. We also took our niece, 12, this time, it was her first cruise. We have started branching out and doing excursions outside of the ships but they will not. If she was not going with us, I would have booked this outside of the cruiseline and saved some cash. With that being said, here we go....

We met at the end of the pier just before walking into the port shop area. They took 20 people to a mini-bus and our driver was Kevin. We started driving through the towns and Kevin was going a lot of history and details about the island and the little communities we went through. This is when the biggest issue came up. The roads and the ride was VERY rough. We were in the very back and got bounced around alot! It didnt help that it seemed like he was driving quite fast for the conditions/vehicle etc. After a little while longer, I determined that it was in part just how they drive on the island. But he definitely could have been a little more cautious.

It was about halfway through the bus ride that I saw what would be one of the highlights of my day in St Kitts. On a side street, was an abandoned faded red Ferrari Testarossa!! I yelled out but no one cared.

Finally we made it to the train. We sat in the lower enclosed part of the car. They offered rum punch, pina coladas, water or sodas. Rum punch was strong but tasty. They also gave out these coconut sugar cookie things that were delicious!!

The train ride was fun!! We saw some old plantations, and a lot of other things. The train was really a nice ride. We went up and looked around the open air deck. We saw a lot of empty fields, a lot of junk cars but we also saw a lot of friendly people and some gorgeous parts of their island. We got to a little station near the airport and jumped back on bus #4 for a quick ride back to the port.

Overall, i really enjoyed the excursion. I like trains and always appreciate the chance to ride on such a unique example.

A few other notes about St Kitts. The people with monkey's offering pictures are jerks and want 10 for a pic or 2 with the monkey. My Dad said the golf was a good time.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!:D

  8. Ugh! That really stinks, we cruise Vista in 8 days. One of the main things my kids keep talking about. Hopefully it will be done sooner rather than later. But like you said I can't wait to just cruise!!

    Have a great time :)

We are on the 21st sailing too! I was looking forward to drunken races..... i guess we'll just have to book the Vista again.

  9. We sail on the Vista in less than 2 weeks and I was thinking of stepping-up my alcohol comsumption..... but this clinches it! I will have to stroll around and check out the random bars and troll them for specials......

  10. I did a little searching and couldnt find an answer.

Anyone that has sailed the Vista, did you notice if they had new movies in the Imax? As in, did they get a new movie the friday that it opened to the public? The reason is..... they moved the premiere of Avengers up a week and we will be at sea. So, if they have movies the weekend they open, i'm sure they would have it. Any information would be helpful... thanks

  11. Just for FYI purposes, we got price drops on our last 2 cruises. However, this one WE havent found any. I know that several others from this sailing have gotten some drops. The difference this year is we have a 4th person with us. Or, maybe our cabin/deck config didnt drop.... i guess we'll try next year ;)

  12. I would suggest either a ship excursion or a reputable tour operator to book a beach trip. We booked a private tour to Altun Ha. There were a few people outside of the port offering taxis/tours. I didnt really check them out too much because i had something scheduled. A lot of people will tell you stay on the ship, Belize isnt safe bleh ..... like any other port, be smart, book something with a reputable company, have fun! Also, check out the Belize section of the Port boards.

  13. Also, be sure to get up early and check out the random breakfast choices. One of my faves is the breakfast burritos on the Lido.

A fun activity for us is to go out to the "secret decks" on the front of 11 and there is another one, i forget which deck. Just go to the very front of a hallway and there should be a door, or just ask a crew member how to get to the forward most observation areas. Have fun!!
