  1. You were leaving the EU and going to the UK, another country. Norway to Denmark is within the EU (Schengen area) so it’s like domestic travel in the U.S. Once you left the EU they needed to record that you exited.
  2. Interesting article. We've stayed at the Royal Hawaiian but somehow missed the Mai Tai bar. Now we have an excuse to go back!
  3. I just looked at our last couple of Viking Dailies for embarkation days. The spa is open 10 AM until 8 PM. However, we have occasionally found some facilities closed on embarkation days, due to maintenance. Also note there are locker rooms in the spa with towels, robes, and slippers. No need to parade around the ship in a robe. The locker uses your room key to keep your personal items secure.
  4. Someone started a similar post a few months ago:
  5. It’s totally port dependent. Without a specific itinerary, it can’t be answered.
  6. This cruise is more akin to scenic cruising than port intensive cruising, which we enjoyed immensely. Spending days cruising the fjords and visiting glaciers was amazing.
  7. They evening schedule typically consists of a Port Talk, Enrichment Lecture, Trivia in the Explorers’ Lounge followed by live music (typically a guitarist), classical duo in the Atrium, some sort of show in the Star Theater (solo singer, duet, musical review, magic act, comedian, etc.). The schedule changes on sea days as well as additional activities. There is usually some form of local entertainment and enrichment at some ports. Pool deck usually has a special dinner or movie night.
  8. Anytime and anywhere I’m approached by a photographer I always tell them I’m in the Witness Protection Program and can’t take photos. Half the time they think I’m serious and they don’t know what to say. 😁
  9. Yes, the DN is the same price as a Nordic. I wonder why Castro is being eliminated? We really enjoyed Castro. It gave us an extra day to use the “toys” and some great photo ops.
  10. My mistake. It is the Viking Saturn that is doing the southern route. The rep made a point of telling us this because the itinerary varied from what the website stated. It has now been corrected.
  11. So it’s essentially similar to what you get when you book onboard except you can do it 30-2 days before you board? Sounds like a much better deal for Viking River customers.
  12. On our last VO cruise there was a singles meet and greet early on in the Wintergarden. Viking probably arranges some sort of event depending on the number of singles aboard.
  13. We’re doing the opposite cruise on the Venus in August. Looks like we’re boarding the same day you are disembarking. I’ll be following your posts, especially about the internet speed. We looked at your sailing date but the Viking sales rep pointed out it was taking the southern Iceland route so we opted for the reverse, which does the northern coast. I wanted to start with the Oslo -Bergen train ride, with the thought that it might not be as enjoyable at the end of a long vacation. The counterpoint is no jet lag when we do board the train. Hoping both of us good weather and fair seas.
  14. It means you are losing a third of your packets and they need to be resent. Jitter is bad too. It should be less than 30ms. Jitter is the time delay in sending data packets. They are taking 10x longer to send then normal. My jitter at home right now is 2ms. It’s taking you 1/3 of a second to send a packet.
  15. Unless you organize a card game with fellow passengers, none, although they do have electronic game tables that include poker, blackjack. Backgammon, chess and checkers. It seems you haven’t really researched Viking’s product. It’s not like other cruise lines.
  16. Great deal on Patagonian Shores & Chilean Fjords. Tempted to take this cruise again.
  17. it was explained to us that they stopped using the hanger to load the SOBs because the weight of the passengers slowed down the process considerably. Be loading and unloading through the sides, they save enough time to allow an additional excursion per day.
  18. In our experience, tour times are from departure from ship to back on board
  19. Seems a very expensive modification. I seriously doubt it.
  20. On our last Mediterranean cruise two “dudes” showed up for afternoon tea in bathrobes and no pants. Their SOs were there dressed to the nines and IMO they showed up to mock those attending. Frat boys who were “too cool for the room.”
