  1. We also had a bad experience on the Nieuw Amsterdam last December, we are 4 Star Mariners with HAL but will stick with Celebrity and Princess for future cruises. It seems like all the lines are cutting costs while raising rates and onboard costs like gratuities and drinks. So far Celebrity still has pretty good food even though the there have been cutbacks on menu selection in the MDR, they are still doing a good job in the buffet with selection and food quality. The entertainment is still pretty good even though they need to change some of the production shows which have been around a little too long. Service is still very good and we like the twice a day cabin service. We sail on the Equinox on August 13 and hope things haven’t changed much since our last cruise which was on the Reflection in April.
  2. You marched on Michigan Boulevard in Chicago, that’s the Prudential Building in the background, when it was built in 1955 it was the tallest building in the city, there are now many buildings taller in the Windy City. Thanks for your service.
  3. We had an HH cabin on the Volendam towards the rear of the ship right below the dining room and never had any kind of a problem with noise or anything else.
  4. I have seen people turned away at dinner time from the MDR wearing shorts.
  5. They don’t want to offend anyone who doesn’t follow the dress code but for people who do follow the dress code there is no problem offending them.
  6. Have to watch the poundage.
  7. The Elite breakfast doesn't work for us as we are early risers and are usually among the first in the OVC for a full breakfast.
  8. We cruised on the Reflection this past Easter and the ship was 400 over capacity with all of them being kids as 3rd and 4th passengers in a cabin. They were pretty well behaved with no craziness like pressing all the elevator buttons that I have seen on other cruises.
  9. We now only cruise in the Caribbean and our favorite HAL ships are the Signature Class sisters Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam. Classy perfect sized ships with the traditional promenade deck. Best cruises in the past were the 3 Mediterranean cruises we took back in 1999, 2001 and 2007. We also enjoyed cruises through the Panama Canal and to Bermuda.
  10. To be honest we have not paid attention to arrival times as we live in Florida and drive 95% of the time to Ft. Lauderdale for our cruises with Princess, Celebrity or Holland America. We usually leave around 8AM for the 2 hour and 20 minute drive to the port, we do this in case of problems that might crop up such as road closures or flat tires etc etc. I can’t remember one time that anyone has ever checked our arrival time.
  11. Guest services should have notified you on the maintenance to the lifeboat but everything else was an over-reaction, did you and your children really think that the ship was sinking, did you not hear or read that if there was an emergency that you would hear 7 short blasts followed by 1 long blast on the ships PA system in which case you would report to your muster station.
  12. Great job with your photos. We will be sailing on the Equinox next month, 5th time on that wonderful ship.
  13. We sailed on the Reflection in April and agree that it was in excellent condition, food was pretty good in the MDR. Food in the OVC was also pretty good with amazing variety. Service as usual was excellent and the entertainment was good but we had better on our 4 cruises on the Equinox. Agree also on Captain Matt, he and the other officers were seen all around the ship on a daily basis and very friendly, we sailed with Captain Matt once before on the Equinox and along with Captain Kate are wonderful representatives of Celebrity Cruises.
  14. First time we heard Country Club Casual was on Renaissance Cruse Line back in 1999. I might be mistaken but doesn’t Oceania own some of the Renaissance ships. It was a great line with great itineraries with 8 brand new ships but didn’t survive the aftermath of 9/11.
  15. Country Club casual is the way to go these days, you won’t be turned away, if you show up in a tee shirt and shorts more than likely you will turned away. Of course no one will be offended if you wear a sport coat, suit or a tuxedo but you will probably be in the minority. Personally we liked the days when everyone dressed up but as with everything else we are in a different day and age.
  16. Since they eliminated Lincoln Center they should rip it all out on the Vista and Signature class ships and go back to the full beautiful Explorers lounge where they always had classical music in the after dinner hours with a little table with chocolates and IIRC tea was also available.
  17. There’s nothing wrong with the terminal but if you drive to the port like we do it’s a pain in the neck because a shuttle bus is needed to transfer you from the garage to the terminal.
  18. I thought it was an Eastern Caribbean cruise out of Florida. My bad. Right now looking at the cones this storm is going heading straight west and probably won’t come close to Bermuda but living in Florida for 30 years and having experienced many hurricanes we have learned that they have a mind of their own and nothing is written in stone.
  19. Celebrity could completely change the itinerary to maybe down to Cozumel, Belize and Costa Maya.
  20. We sailed on the Infinity last October and thought she was in great shape. We had a wonderful cruise with the food, entertainment and service all exceeding expectations. Infinity is a perfect sized ship with a capacity of 2,000, we also liked the traditional promenade deck with great views of the sea from a deck chair.
